This week’s Prayer Focus:
Parish: for those who live and work in Church Lane.
CTKD: Kenilworth Methodist Church. We pray for their
Annual Church Meeting next Sunday as they appoint
officers for this coming year which will see a change of
leadership in the autumn.
Diocese: Rugby Deanery – On this Rogation Sunday, pray
for the rural parishes of this deanery, that they may be
a blessing to their communities.
Link Church/Charity: Women’s Refuge. We pray for
those women and children who face domestic abuse
within our local area, and give thanks for those who
shelter and care for them.

8.00am Prayers and Readings
Collect
God our redeemer, who hast delivered us from the
power of darkness and brought us into the
kingdom of thy Son: grant, that as by his death he
hath recalled us to life, so by his continual presence
in us he may raise us to eternal joy; through Jesus
Christ thy Son our Lord, who liveth and reigneth
with thee, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God,
now and for ever. Amen.
Post-Communion Prayer
O God our Father, whose Son Jesus Christ doth give
the water of eternal life: may we ever thirst for
thee, the spring of life and fountain of goodness,
through him who liveth and reigneth, now and for
ever. Amen.
First Reading: Acts 10:39-48
Peter, speaking to Cornelius the Roman Centurion
and those with him in the house, said,
“We are witnesses of everything he did in the
country of the Jews and in Jerusalem. They killed
him by hanging him on a tree, but God raised him
from the dead on the third day and caused him to
be seen. He was not seen by all the people, but by
witnesses whom God had already chosen - by us
who ate and drank with him after he rose from the
dead. He commanded us to preach to the people
and to testify that he is the one whom God
appointed as judge of the living and the dead. All
the prophets testify about him that everyone who
believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through
his name.”
While Peter was still speaking these words, the
Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The
circumcised believers who had come with Peter
were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had
been poured out even on the Gentiles. For they
heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.
Then Peter said, “Can anyone keep these people
from being baptized with water? They have
received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he
ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus
Christ. Then they asked Peter to stay with them for
a few days.
Gospel Reading: John 15:9-17
Jesus said to his disciples:
“As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you.
Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands,
you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed
my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I
have told you this so that my joy may be in you and
that your joy may be complete. My command is
this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater
love has no one than this: that he lay down his life
for his friends. You are my friends if you do what I
command. I no longer call you servants, because a
servant does not know his master’s business.
Instead, I have called you friends, for everything
that I learned from my Father I have made known
to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and
appointed you to go and bear fruit - fruit that will
last. Then the Father will give you whatever you ask
in my name. This is my command: Love each
other.”
PREPARING FOR WORSHIP
As you come to worship, look at the Bible passages and
ask God to give you an expectant heart ready to receive
from Him today. You may like to use this prayer:
As I worship you this morning, Lord, prepare my
heart to receive whatever blessing you have for me
today, and fill me with the desire to be a channel of
your blessing in my home, my community and
among those I spend time with this week.
Please spend a few minutes this week preparing for
what God might have for you in our worship next
Sunday. Read through the Bible passage(s), consider
the chosen theme. Please also refer to the Prayer Focus
topics for the week and ‘chat’ with God about these.
Next Sunday’s Theme: Gone, but not forgotten
Next Sunday’s Readings: Acts 1:1-11; John 17:6-19
