Sunday started off with thunder, lighting and rain, which hurt
our early service attendance, but the late service attendance
was good. The spirit of both services was good and the
message from Jude was profoundly relevant for all that is
happening in our world. Once again God blessed us with
three coming to profess their faith in Jesus as their Lord and
Savior and wanting to follow in believer’s baptism. We
welcome into the Kingdom and our fellowship Chris Allahar, Jr.,
Carlos Aguilar and his wife, Nicole Alloggio. I had the honor of
baptizing Carlos and Nicole during the Sunday evening service.
Speaking of the Sunday evening service, I feel safe in saying
everyone appreciated the wonderful way our youth shared
their camp experiences. We are blessed to have a man of
Kevin Horn’s character as our Interim Youth Leader. Kevin has a
deep love for our kids and, I have observed, the young people
know he does. The Youth Ministry has not missed a beat since
Tim Darst left. We are grateful and give credit to Tim for doing
an excellent job in leadership the four years he was here, but
the true success of any ministry is after you leave.
The team Tim developed has beautifully “stepped up to the
plate” to make sure that the ministry moves forward
smoothly during this time. I also want to express gratitude to
Connor Guthrie, our summer intern, for the exemplary
assistance he is giving to Kevin and the youth leadership team.
Of course, the youth themselves have exhibited some real
maturity as they accepted Tim and Jenni going to a new field
as God’s will.
The nomination process was completed yesterday and the
Personnel Committee has counted your nominations. We
were hoping to be able to announce the members of the Youth
Pastor Search Team to you in this publication, but the Personnel Committee has to contact a few more people to make sure
they will accept being on the committee. This Sunday, the
Youth Pastor Search Committee will be announced, and they
will have their first meeting as soon as possible.
The Worship Pastor Search Committee is working, and contacts
have been made to perspective candidates for this position.
While we do not want to drag the process out, at the same time
we will not rush to get any man to fill the position. In my
sixteen year tenure as Senior Pastor, we have had the very best
in staff relations and we want to keep it that way. The worse
mistake we could make is to miss finding the man God wants
for us. The Search Committee and I are absolutely confident
that in God’s timing He will bring us His man!
I was very pleased with the response to our Holy Land Tour
Informational Meeting Sunday night. An excellent group
attended and there is a lot of interest in this tour. A good
number of people have been with us before and want to go
again, but we had more people who have never gone. If you
would like information about this fabulous pilgrimage to the
cradle of our Christian faith, please call me, email me, or make
an appointment to discuss it with me. I cannot tell you how
much you would gain through this experience. We leave for
Israel on Friday, March 11, and return Sunday, March 20, 2016.
Georgianna and I are hoping to take a good size group with us.
Again, I want to remind you to make a special effort to be here
Sunday, July 12! Dr. Paige Patterson, President of Southwestern
Baptist Theological Seminary, will be our special guest preaching
in both morning services. I will be expecting to see you this
Sunday.

The New Covenant
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel
after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward
parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God,
and they shall be my people. And they shall teach no more
every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying,
Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of
them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive
their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.
(Jeremiah 31:33-34)
The book of Jeremiah concerns itself with the
coming judgment upon Judah (the southern kingdom) as a
result of its hardheartedness, apostasy and idolatry.
However, in spite of how bad things became as a result of
God’s discipline, Israel had a hope for the future. This hope
was “the New Covenant.” This covenant had an inward,
spiritual dynamic which the Mosaic Covenant did not.
Rather than writing His Law upon stone tablets, one day
God would write His Law upon their heart.
With the first covenant, the sacrifice and the
mediator were not the same. Moses was the mediator of
the first covenant and the covenant was inaugurated by
animal sacrifice. The New Covenant would be different. In
this case, the sacrifice and the mediator would be one and
the same. When Jesus was in the upper-room with His
disciples, just hours before His trial and crucifixion, He
poured a cup of wine and offered it to His disciples. He
states in Luke 22:20, “This cup is the new covenant in my
blood, even that which is poured out for you.” And again, in
Hebrews 9:15 the writer states, “And for this cause he is
the mediator of a new covenant, that a death having taken
place for the redemption of the transgressions that were
under the first covenant, they that have been called may
receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.”
Jesus is both the sacrifice and the mediator of the
New Covenant. In Hebrews 9:15, you may notice that the
benefit of being a beneficiary of the New Covenant is the
promise of eternal inheritance. Those who trust and follow
Christ are recipients (beneficiaries) of the benefits of this
covenant. Let’s review these benefits. First, God told
Jeremiah that He would write His Law on the hearts of all
those who trust Him. Secondly, God will be their God and
believers would be His people. This bespeaks of an intimate
relationship between the created and their creator. Thirdly,
their God would forgive them of their iniquity. And
fourthly, God would remember their sin no more. His wrath
would no longer reside upon them.
Paul, a minister of the New Covenant (see 2 Cor.
3:6), said confidently, “You were dead because of your sins
and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then
God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.
He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it
away by nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:13-14). As
beneficiaries of the New Covenant, we have much for which
to be thankful. Like Israel, we have a hope for the future!

The Body. MBC is the local Body of Christ located at 22333
Kuykendahl Rd in Spring Texas. Ephesians 4:15b-16 reminds me
and challenges me to think seriously about my part of His local
body, MBC: “...in all things grow up into Him who is the Head,
that is…Christ. From Him the whole body [MBC], joined and held
together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself
up in love, as each part does its work.” KJV.
MBC members are the supporting ligaments of this body—each
person with a unique purpose, Spiritual gifts and abilities. A
ligament is something that connects bones or holds organs of
our body in its designated healthy place. How might this work in
a church body? God uses us to encourage and support one
another. We inspire each other and demonstrate God’s love to
one another. We stir ground-meat for sloppy Joe’s for the VBS
luncheon…
What connects us? —This question is so pertinent every Sunday
as greeters in our foyers and I encounter visitors and recommend
Sunday School groups. I met two couples yesterday and
recommended a class for them to visit. I met the people,
discovered the age-range they would be most comfortable with
and a bit about their family. Most visitors want to be in a group
similar to them: children of similar ages, life-style similarities,
female-only groups or male-only groups. Ligaments matter every
week.
Connection allows communication to begin. Connecting allows
people to become part of our group. I observed this as teams
met Sunday afternoon…
Healthy connect-groups support individuals and enable MBC/
Body to function together on God’s path and purpose. God does
not act in random ways, and the fact that you are a part of this
local body is not random. Please ask God to clarify why He
placed you in this local body! Ask Him to show you what your
function and purpose is and how to participate in building up the
Body of Christ called MBC.
2 Cor. 12:12-26 is a great reminder that we are all different yet
part of the same body. God never designed us to be cookiecutter copies of each other, but He does want us to function
together for our good and His glory! Every single part is needful:
the smallest most obscure body-part must contribute to our
overall health!
I need YOU! I need your prayer support, suggestions and
insights. Your class needs your presence, your communications,
encouragements and your participation. Remember, God placed
you into this local body called Memorial Baptist Church!

Dear Memorial,
Thank you so much for praying for my nephew,
Jonathan, and for my family this past month. It is
because of all the prayers and encouraging words
of comfort that God has given us His peace that
surpasses all understanding throughout this
difficult time. We had the Celebration of Life
Memorial service in Corpus Christi for the
precious souls of Jonathan’s wife, Laura, his son,
Andrew, and his daughter, Leighton. It was truly
a celebration because we know, and Jonathan
shared that he believes without a doubt, that his
loved ones are in the presence of God and they
have eternal life because of His gift of Jesus
Christ. Please continue to pray for Jonathan and
all the families that are still recovering from the
effects of the flood in Wimberley Texas.
May God’s blessings be on you all!
