April 4 Community Easter Egg Hunt April 15 SAT Exam for all Juniors April 15 Mr. Mustang April 24 Senior Project Presentations April 27 Blood Drawing May 12 Academic Awards Honor Society Dinner May 22 Graduation If you need a tux for Prom, Mr. Formal will be at the school on Tuesday, April 7th to measure boys for their tux for Prom. They will also take orders on Wednesday, April 15th. This is a great service to our school. They come to Melba to measure, deliver the tuxes the Thursday before Prom and pick them up the Monday after Prom. PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES Melba Junior/Senior High School would like to invite you to Spring Parent Teacher Conferences. Teachers will be available Thursday evening, March 19 from 4:00—8:00 and again on Friday, March 20, 2015 from 9:00—1:00. If parents are unable to attend conferences during these times, we would encourage you to email the teacher or contact the office for an appointment. As a bonus Seniors will be displaying their Senior Projects—don’t miss out. Melba School District offers a wide variety of classes to our students and we will be starting several new classes next year. We need to know if your student is interested in ROTC, Advanced Art, Holocaust Literature, Pottery or Tech Assistant. If you have questions about the Pathways Program, college credit classes or the 8 in 6 Program, please talk with Mr. Lenz or Mr. Forsgren. It is important to take this opportunity to meet with your student’s teachers. If you have questions, please contact the office at 495-2221. April 8 Sophomore Field Trip Students will be completing their 15-16 registration following Spring Break. Registration information for next year’s classes will be available at Parent Teacher conferences. We encourage parents to pick up this packet on the 19th or 20th and discuss class offerings with their student. Teachers will be available to discuss their individual programs and the School Counselor, Mr. Lenz, will be available for questions. Melba Greenhouse Have you seen the new greenhouse? The district is putting final touches on our newest addition. Representatives from Valley Agronomics recently donated an additional $2,000 to help fund the interior equipment needed. The greenhouse will be in operation for our 2015-2016 school year. Students in Mr. Silver’s Botany Class will be the first to use this facility. You probably have noticed the numerous improvements to the field and track area: Sidewalks and pavement have made it handicap accessible, a new ticket booth has been added, the entrance has been graded and leveled, the ’frame’ stating “Home of the Mustangs” is dramatic and new gates will be added in the near future. These improvements have been a joint venture with several Eagle Scout projects. Scouts Adam Saurey, Kaden Pieksma, Calvin Preisler, Holiday Craft Bazaar November 8, 2014 9:00—2:30 Cody Svedin, Devin Edmiston and Jake Woodruff worked with administration and our Maintenance Staff to complete these upgrades and their donation of time and talent is greatly appreciated. The district would like to offer a big thank-you to Reese Leavitt of Leavitt Engineering who helped oversee these Eagle Scouts and to Eric Clark and James Magsamen whose cooperation and expertise was essential to the success of the project. Tutoring If your student needs some additional help in their English Class, Mr. Sessions is offering after school Junior High Language Lab in his room Monday through Thursday from 3:45-4:30 p.m. If you have questions, please call the office at 495-2221. Math Night National College Fair Wednesday, October 29th Parental Permission slips are due by the end of the day on October 28th. Do you have questions about Math? You are invited to a Math Night showcasing the junior high curriculum, Common Core and a question and answer period. Thursday, October 23, 2014, 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Library. Senior Project Field Trip Melba Seniors were able to visit the State Capitol and meet with Senator Patti Anne Lodge from District 11. She answered questions about upcoming legislation and taught the students how the process works in Idaho. Finally, she took them to the Senate Floor so they could have first-hand experience of the legislative procedures. CWI Dual Credit money is due on December 16th. For students in the Fast Forward program, parents will pay the fees and Melba High School will reimburse the parents. Fans with Cans Rake Up Melba Veterans Day The Melba Senior Center Food Bank is in desperate need of supplies! In answer to that need the Student Council is sponsoring “FANS WITH CANS”. Bring your canned food or non-perishable item to the front gate at the football game on Friday, October 17th and we will deliver your items to the Senior Center. They will also accept cash donations. In Melba we pride ourselves on taking care of our own people, so be generous! Student council will be doing Rake Up Melba again this year on Tuesday, November 25th . If you know someone who we should add to our list to rake their yard please feel free to contact the high school or student council advisor, Ms. BoschWilson ([email protected]) so we can get you on the list. This is a huge community project that the entire school takes part in. Student council would gladly accept any community trash bag or chili donations to help aid us in that day. On Tuesday November 11th Melba Jr./Sr. High School will be hosting the annual Veteran’s Day Assembly. We would love any Veterans and their families to attend. At 9:00 a.m. our local FFA chapter will be hosting a breakfast for all Veterans and their families with the assembly to follow. We would love to have as many people as possible at both events. One benefit of using your newsletter as a promotional tool is that you can reuse content from other marketing materials, such as press releases, market studies, information from your MLS, mortgage rates, and trends in home buying or selling. While your main goal of distributing a newsletter might be to create or maintain name awareness, the key to a successful newsletter is making it useful to your readers. A great way to add useful content to your newsletter is to develop and write your own articles, or include a calendar of upcoming events. You can also include information that promotes your special services or real estate niche. This could include new homes, working with first time buyers, or handling resort properties. Caption describing picture or graphic. You can also research articles on the Web. You can write about a variety of topics. Try to keep your articles short yet informative. Much of the content you put in your newsletter can also be used for your Web site. Microsoft Publisher offers a simple way to convert your newsletter to a Web publication. So, when you are finished writing your newsletter, convert it to a Web site and publish it to the Web. Inside Story Headline This story can fit 100-150 words. The subject matter that appears in newsletters is virtually endless. You can include stories that focus on trends in home buying or selling, home improvement information, or mortgage rates. Microsoft Publisher includes thousands of clip- art images from which you can choose and import into your newsletter. There are also several tools you can use to draw shapes and symbols. Once you have chosen an image, place it close to the article. Be sure to place the caption of the image near the image. Caption describing picture or graphic. SOPHOMORE FIELD TRIP APRIL 8TH Attention Sophomore Parents! In preparation for the Sophomore Project, the sophomores will be taking their first ever English field trip to Boise on Wednesday, April 8th! We will be visiting the Human Rights Memorial where students will have a brief tour of the memorial followed by a lesson on the holocaust. During this lesson students will participate in a reader’s theater. We will be eating lunch on campus in the Student Union Building, which is within walking distance of the memorial. After lunch we will then go to the Log Cabin next to the memorial where we will have a very special speaker join us to share his survival story. Fidel Nshombo is a “lost boy” from Rwanda and survived the genocide from the war in that region in the 1990’s. He is also a poet and will share some of his poetry as well. Special Guest Speaker: Fidel Nshombo Please sign the permission slip sent home and return with ten (10) dollars to cover transportation and speaker accommodation costs in order to go on the field trip by Thursday, March 19th. We will also need parent volunteers, so if you are interested, please let Melba High School has adopted the Green Dot program for our schools. This is a violence prevention program that emphasizes the power of one person to make a change in the culture of a school and the community. It Is designed to combat dating abuse, sexual assault and bullying by empowering students to take a stand. Students will be presenting information on this program during Friday night’s parent teacher conferences at 6:00, 6:30 and 7:00 in the high school library.
