Pupils select and organize material for answering questions. They write information in a more concise form, taking care to use own words. Pupils take note of command words in the question, to ensure the correct and precise response. Directed writing. Pupils continue further practice on presenting and transforming information, with particular emphasis on persuasive style of writing: letter or article Pupils will continue to: write dialogue, interview, friendly letter, complaint letter, advice letter, speech and newspaper report. They will practice past year IGCSE papers. Continuous Writing. Pupils continue with further practice of the skills of Descriptive Writing: To develop ideas and images, to describe complex atmospheres with a range of details. 4 They are to provide an overall structure, through devices such as movements of the writer, or the creation of atmosphere or tension. Next, pupils will explore and come up with ideas for Narrative Writing. The specific tasks that they will learn are how to create an appropriate setting, original plot and life-like characters. Pupils will attempt and practice exam-style essay topics. ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE Pupils will focus on reading, writing, listening and speaking. Reading and writing skills Pupils will review vocabulary, read about transport, research islands, write a description, and write notes. Read maps and graphs, read about an archaeological discovery, and look at abbreviations. Write using information from a graph. Read about veganism, research food measurements, and technical words. Write an informal letter Read about advertising, research the law about advertisements listen to an interview and make notes. Write a competition entry. Read about and research home-education, write an informal letter. Use information on a table to write a description. Read about how animals can help humans. Write a formal letter, read some guidelines for giving a presentation. Listening skills: Pupils will be tested on vocabulary and reading. Comment, understand and discuss literary context, character, relationship, theme, motifs and symbols in Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest. 2. Understand the writer’s intentions and methods, and respond to the writer’s use of language (author’s craft). 3. Compare the presentation of ideas, values or emotions in related or contrasting texts. 4. Comment, understand and discuss the anthology of Nineteenth and Twentieth Century poetry in English from Songs of Ourselves. 5.
