This handbook contains information and forms necessary for sectional and league competitions conducted for all Summer sports with the exception of track & field. Track & field entry form Ds will be distributed to you by your Area Director before the area meet. Please return those forms to your Area Director, who will inform you of your available Summer Games slots after your area competition. Athletes may only compete in ONE SPORT at the league, sectional, and chapter level competition (Summer Games). Each athlete MUST compete in every level of competition available (league, area and sectional) in order to advance to chapter level competition. An activation form will be provided at each sectional competition. You will be asked to activate those athletes who competed and/or qualified to move on to chapter level competition. The forms attached to this PDF are editable forms. This means that you are able to type your information into the form electronically. To fill out the form, place your cursor in a field that requires completing and type your answer. Once you have completed the packet, it is to be sent to Susan Mejia at the Special Olympics New Jersey Chapter Office. You have three options in regards to turning in these forms: 1. Email the Form. Some versions of Adobe Reader allow you to save your completed form. After saving the forms, sign in to your regularly used email account and attach the file in an email to Susan Mejia at [email protected]. 2. Fax the Form. If you are running a previous version of Adobe Reader OR you work at a school, you may be unable to save your completed version of these forms. Schools often have privacy protections in place that prevent users from saving completed PDF forms. In this case, please PRINT your completed form and fax it to 609-482-2296. 3. Mail the Form. If you choose, you can print out a blank form, fill it out by hand, and mail the form to the following address. Special Olympics New Jersey Attn: Susan Mejia 1 Eunice Kennedy Shriver Way Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 New this year: Individual athlete registration forms and coach roster forms have been replaced with excel spreadsheets. Each athlete will play 8 balls per game with the pallina placed at the 30-foot-line for the first game, the 40-foot-line for the second game and the 50-foot-line for the third game. After each game, the coach measures the closest three balls and records their distance in centimeters. Measurements will be taken from the center side of the bocce ball to the center side of the pallina for a total of 9 measurements. The sum of these 9 measurements become the athlete’s individual divisioning score. Doubles scores will be a sum of the two participants’ individual scores; team scores will be a sum of the four participants’ individual scores. AVAILABLE EVENTS: • Traditional Doubles Competition (Sectional and Summer Games) • Unified 2 Person Team Competition (Summer Games Only) • Unified 4 Person Team Competition (Summer Games Only) PARTICIPATION: • Athletes may compete in traditional doubles competition at the sectional level • Athletes may compete in traditional doubles and one unified team event at the chapter level • Coaches may not participate as Unified Partners. CRITERIA FOR ADVANCEMENT: • To qualify for sectional competition, athletes must participate in an eight-week training program and provide a preliminary score based on the bocce skills test. • Athletes must participate in sectional competition in order to advance to Summer Games. • Sectional level athletes must compete in the sectional competition that their area is assigned to attend in order to be eligible to advance. • Coaches may use additional criteria (i.e., behavior, overnight stay, medical) to evaluate the athlete for higher level competition. GENERAL GUIDELINES: • Coaches are responsible for submitting the activation list at the sectional competition for those athletes who qualify to advance. • Athletes and Unified Partners must be properly uniformed. Jeans and casual shirts are not permitted. Team members should have matching collared shirts with dress shorts or cotton pants and sneakers. • Lunch will not be served at sectional dates. Athletes may choose to bring their own snack and beverages. 3 BOCCE SUBSTITUTION INFORMATION Local Training Programs can register additional bocce athletes or unified partners as substitutes/alternates in anticipation of the need for substitutions prior to Sectional competition ONLY. In order to register substitute/alternate players, LTP Coordinators must forward the appropriate registration material (medical form or Unified Partner release) to SONJ indicating “substitute” or “alternate” status by the registration deadline of April 8th. There will be absolutely no changing of teams between Sectional Competition and Summer Games. Once teams are finalized at the Sectional Competition, those are the teams that must compete at Summer Games. SUBSTITUTION INSTRUCTIONS Substitution for individual players will be allowed according to the following rules: 1. SONJ must be notified of the substitution by 12:00 p.m. on the Monday prior to the competition date. 2. The LTP Coordinator must have included the name of and valid medical for the substitute or alternate in their Summer Games registration. 3. The LTP Coordinator must provide a written explanation of need for substitution. Changes to team rosters will not be allowed at sectional competition. If a team member scratches at sectional competition, that member of the team will be considered a scratch from the 2015 Summer Games as well. NO SUBSTITUTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED ON-SITE. If two athletes from the same program both have partners who scratch on the day of sectional competition, they can be paired together to play for a participation ribbon. This new team can move onto Summer Games together; however, they must identify this on the activation sheet prior to the end of the sectional competition. 4 TEAM / RELAY ENTRY FORM FORM E - BOCCE DOUBLES NAME OF LTP: AREA: TEAM NAME: INDIVIDUAL NAMES SCORE (CM) ROLE 1.
