NEW JERSEY ATHLETIC Conference baseball PLAYERS OF THE WEEK WEEK ENDING 3/22/15 PLAYER of the Week casey grimes • Rowan University Senior • First Baseman • Gibbstown, NJ/Paulsboro Grimes earns NJAC Player of the Week honors after hitting .591 (13-for-22) with a double, a home run, 11 RBI, and three runs scored in six games played for the Profs during their Spring Trip to Florida. He hit safely in all six contests and produced four multiple-hit games, including a 3-4 performance with a double, a home run, a run scored, and four RBI in a 10-2 win over Benedictine. He wrapped up the week by going 4-for-5 with two RBI and a run scored in a 9-3 win over defending national champion Wisconsin-Whitewater. Grimes currently ranks second in the NJAC in total hits (20). PITCHER of the Week tom portesy • Ramapo College Senior • Right-handed Pitcher • Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive Portesy earns NJAC Pitcher of the Week honors after going 2-0 on the mound while producing eight scoreless innings in two outings combined during Ramapo’s Spring Trip to Florida. He first tossed an inning of scoreless relief while garnering the win during the Roadrunners’ 22-9 victory over Trinity (CT). Three days later in a start against Wisconsin-La Crosse, he surrendered only three hits and two walks over seven shutout innings while striking out eight to garner the victory in Ramapo’s 2-0 win. Portesy currently leads the NJAC in both pitching victories (4) and strikeouts (32). ROOKIE of the Week monny strickland • Rowan University Freshman • Outfielder • Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township Strickland earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the third consecutive week after hitting .278 (5-for-18) with five RBI and four runs scored during six games played for the Profs during their Spring Trip to Florida. He hit safely in 4-of-6 games played, and drove in a run in four of the six contests as well. In a 13-1 win over Gallaudet, he went 1-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base, an RBI, and three runs scored. He closed out the trip by going 2-for-5 with two RBI in a 9-3 win over No. 1 ranked Wisconsin-Whitewater. Strickland currently ranks tied for fourth in the NJAC in RBI (14). ROOKIE pitcher of the Week luis rojas • Rutgers University-Newark Freshman • Right-handed Pitcher • Union, NJ/Union Catholic Rojas earns NJAC Rookie Pitcher of the Week honors after tossing five scoreless innings in two outings combined during the Scarlet Raiders Spring Trip to California. He opened the week by striking out three while not surrendering a hit or a walk in two scoreless innings to collect the first save of his collegiate career in a 6-4 victory over Whittier. Rojas wrapped up his first full week of collegiate competition by scattering two hits over three shutout innings of relief while striking out two in an 11-10 defeat to Claremont.
