Office Talk
This week...
The ANZAC spirit was alive and
well last weekend with wonderful
crowds attending the games
played in both our leagues.
Congratulations and well done to
all clubs and supporters involved
for the respect paid to the day and
the memory of our service man and women.
As we get stuck in to the season properly now, it is
worth mentioning that the two junior competitions
played within our region also started their year’s
activities last weekend. The Frankston District
Junior Football League (FDJFL) and the Mornington
Peninsula Junior Football League (MPJFL) seasons
began on a high from all reports and we are thrilled
that our breeding is strong and vibrant.
Most of our clubs have junior arms competing
in them and they remain a vital source of junior
players making their way up to senior level. These
competitions are the lifeblood of senior football in
the district and the people who run them are as
passionate about our great game as any person in
any senior club. Most junior games are played on
Sundays and we encourage members of senior clubs,
especially senior players, to make the effort to attend
a game or two in support of the budding champions
of the future.
Now to something not so palatable but very
important to football and our reputation as a league
– poor and abusive language.
We are constantly reminding spectators to watch the
abuse of players, umpires and others in the crowd so
it stands to reason that club officials should set the
example.
Word has come back to the office that the language
used by some coaches while addressing players in
front of the public has been very poor in the opening
rounds. Team officials need to be aware that their
club, the MPNFL and our sport as whole are on show
during match days. This is particularly so at game
breaks when many young children are often around
the huddles. Gratuitous swearing and abuse is a bad
look, unnecessary and, these days, often ends up on
social media.
The MPNFL can and will take action so all clubs have
now been warned.
This weekend will see the completion of round three
and will feature a traditional rivalry game in between
Chelsea and Seaford in Peninsula League. Together
with the all-important four premiership points, the
neighbouring foes will contest the match for the
Frank Parsons Trophy.
Don’t forget to support the businesses and services
that sponsor the MPNFL as well as your clubs. It is
getting so much harder to attract sponsorship and
the associated income that makes our football and
netball tick, so it makes sense that we assist the
people who have bothered to assist us via financial
support.
Next week the MPNFL will again support the annual
Pink Footy and Netball Day. We encourage all clubs
to get involved for a worthy charity - Breast Cancer
Network Australia (BCNA). Contact your clubs for
details of promotions and events on the day and
please give to your local appeals. The league and
our associated stakeholders and supporters are very
proud to be involved with this community initiative.

AFL Vic Country
Be wary of the girls from
country Victoria.
That’s the whisper ahead of the AFL Youth Girls
National Championships which kick off this weekend
in Mandurah, Western Australia.
The talented squad, that includes girls from every
corner of Victoria, made the trip across the Nullarbor
for the week-long tournament with the aim of
causing an upset in the highly competitive Premier
Division.
Despite finishing the 2014 championships without
a win in the Division that contained Vic Metro,
Queensland and eventual champions WA, the Vic
Country girls impressed everyone with their attack
on the ball and fast-paced brand of footy.
Another year on and the team is confident their skills
will stack up against the best the country has to offer.
Head coach Shaun O’Loughlin believes his side’s
added depth will give it every chance of pinching
a victory.
“We’ve got 11 girls that played in the team last
year but what was pleasing this time around was
the number of difficult selection decisions we were
forced to make because of the increased talent pool,”
O’Loughlin said. “One of our biggest challenges is
the distance between our girls and the difficulty in
bringing them all together.”
“With limited training sessions it’s a little unknown
how we will perform but we’ve got a great mix
of girls who are all really committed and keen to
represent Vic Country.”
“Our aim will to be competitive every quarter of every
match and we’re confident if we can do that, then a
win isn’t out of the question.”
The Squad’s depth is thanks largely to the three
regionally-based TAC Youth Girls Academies which
operated during the off-season.
The three Academies, North Ballarat, Geelong/
Werribee/Western Jets/Williamstown and Bendigo/
Murray provide extra development and a personal
development program similar to what country
Victoria boys undertake in the TAC Cup.
The Vic Country team will be led by Geelong’s Lilly
Mithen, who will be participating in her fourth U18
National Championships, having first represented
her state as a 14-year-old.
The hard running midfielder has been named AllAustralian three times and looms as her side’s most
important player.
Luca Gallo, Ainslie Kemp, Temikka Beeston, Isabella
Ayre and Emma Lynch are among a host of other
talented girls who have had a taste of the big
stage and will be keen to leave their mark on
Championships in 2015.

TIGERS CHASE FIRST WIN
By Simon McEvoy
SEAFORD coach Ben Crowe says his side isn’t under
pressure after a 0-3 start to the season but admits a
win would make life a little more comfortable.
The Tigers get their chance to get off the mark today
against fellow winless side Chelsea (0-2).
“The group’s still up,’’ Crowe declared during the
week.
“I wouldn’t say the motivation or anything has gone
as such from the group, but you know what footy is
like, the more you are winning everything’s easier…
things are a bit more positive around the place when
you are getting the four points and singing the song
at the end of the game.’’
In a boost for Seaford, champion midfielder Chris
Fortnam is expected to return to the Tigers side today
after missing last game with a groin injury.
Seaford has been okay so far. The Tigers were good
against Pines first-up, just letting themselves down
with their ball use.
Then against Bonbeach, Crowe was disappointed
with his side. “The general output was probably the
worst I’ve seen from that group since I’ve coached
them,’’ he said.
But the Tigers turned in an improved performance
to push last season’s grand finalists Mornington
in round three. Crowe has been one of Seaford’s
leading players so far, along with Rourke Fischer,
Jamie Quanchi and Matt Herbert.
Chelsea, with a new coach (Brent Guerra) and a
raft of new players, has taken time to find its feet.
First up, the Seagulls were blown away by Edi-Asp
in the first quarter before matching it with them in
the remaining three quarters. Then against reigning
premiers Frankston YCW, Chelsea played good footy
to be within striking distance at half-time, only to be
run over late in the game.
Chelsea was hopeful of star recruit Daniel Stafford
returning from Alice Springs, where he attended a
funeral. He could make all the difference.
PINES, after a strong start to the season, faces
probably its biggest test to date when it hosts
EDITHVALE-ASPENDALE.
Win this and talk of the Pythons being contenders
will have merit.
Paddy Swayn has Pines (3-0) playing a terrific brand
of footy. With ex-AFL man Aaron Edwards up front,
the Pythons have more firepower this season. And
midfield star Luke Potts has quickly put his stamp on
the competition. Another newcomer, Taylor Strachan,
has also been one of Pines’ best players so far. Others
like Brenton Cowell, Beau Hendry, Dale Tedge and
Patty Jackson are important.
Like Pines, Edi-Asp has scored freely in its three
games. The Eagles thrashed Bonbeach and Chelsea
before dead-heating with Langwarrin last round.
Former Dolphins ball magnet Matt Clark has been in
slick form and his head-to-head battle with Potts will
be a highlight. Ex-Richmond player Brett O’Hanlon
has also been impressive for Edi-Asp and again today
will be a key factor.

LANGWARRIN goes into its Round 3 clash with
BONBEACH still searching for its first win of the
season.
It’s been a frustrating start for the Kangaroos. First up
they lost to the highly-rated Pines by 14 points and
then coughed up a three-goal lead in the last quarter
against Edi-Asp.
So, after much effort and promise, Langwarrin has
just two points in the bank - which makes today’s
encounter with Bonny all the more important. It
could either kick-start their season or create doubts.
Yes, Gerard Brown was inaccurate last round, but,
gee, he was impressive. The big fellow has loads of
talent and will win plenty of games for Langy. Big
Red Matt Naughton has also made a strong start
to the season. Teenager Ryan Smyth was terrific on
debut last game, Shane Paterson is a prime mover
and former state karate champ Haydn Golby is an
emerging talent.
Bonbeach’s win over Seaford came between two
heavy defeats. It’s been mixed fortunes for the Sharks
in the opening three rounds. They looked good in
that win when Jackson Sole, Nathan Robinson and
Dylan Jones played beaut games and Chris Bryan
slotted four goals. Bryan has slotted 3, 4 and 2 goals
in his three appearances.
PYTHONS ON THE UP
IN THE RESERVES…
PINES are looking for their third straight win when
they host EDI-ASP. Daniel Falzon, Jarryd Guganovic,
Billy Humphrey and Rhys Chalkley have been
impressive so far for the Pythons.
SEAFORD dropped its first game last round, despite
having more scoring shots than Mornington. The
Tigers, with Joey Hallal and Julian Walton showing
the way, are playing good footy and will look to back
their third win today when they travel to CHELSEA,
which followed an impressive first up win with a
41-point loss last round.
LANGWARRIN hit its straps last round, firing off 33
scoring shots to thump Edi-Asp. More of that should
see the Kangas account for winless BONBEACH
today.
Michael Voss
KANGAS LOOK TO BOUNCE BACK
IN THE UNDER 19s…
LANGWARRIN received a reality check in the form
of a 65-point loss to Edi-Asp last round but gets the
chance to bounce back today when it meets winless
BONBEACH.
CHELSEA (1-1) has shown good signs so far but faces
a tough test against ladder leaders SEAFORD. The
Tigers have looked sharp, with Dylan Chisholm in the
goals and Luke Hayes moving well.
EDI-ASP looks like boosting its percentage when it
meets PINES. Eagles Jordan Davies, Charlie Martello
and Lochie Brodie continue to impress.

Langwarrin Kangaroos
Bonbeach Sharks
Great to see Dan Wehner on our last outing notch up
150 club games. Bluey has been a fantastic loyal hard
working player and a great bloke to have around the
club -well done mate! Disappointingly the boys after
controlling the game from the outset and leading all
day let the Edi boys back in during the dying seconds
to see the game end in a draw. Boofa was fantastic
marking everything that came his way, Red controlled
the ruck and Ryan Smyth played a top game on debut.
Luxa’s boys had a day out in the reserves with a 10 goal
win. Chilli took his opportunity by the horns and kicked
four goals, whilst Buxton, Napier and Binks were solid
contributors. Craige’s boys however had a day they
would rather forget losing by 10 goals. Lyttle, Spoona
and Napier played well yet I’m sure the whole group
would be keen to make amends today. Four points is
a must today as we host Bonbeach. A big night a the
club follows the game today with our first $5k draw,
get upstairs for your chance to take home the cash!

Big game today against Langwarrin for all 3 football
teams. Adam has the U19’s flying on the track so
hoping for a good performance from the boys.
It was a big weekend for Joey Danket who set the
dance floor on fire at the Deck in Frankston. Rumour is
it he was beating them off with a stick.
Good work from Danny (GORA) Hogan who is climbing
up the goal kickers table. A senior game wouldn’t be far
away...
Good Luck to Daniel Smith who is getting closer to
his 300th senior game and warming to the idea of
someone actually meeting his girlfriend.
Big Night back at the Club with the Netballers

Chelsea Seagulls
Seaford Tigers
We welcome Seaford to Beardsworth this week , should
be 3 good games of footy. After a tuff day at YCW 2
weeks ago hopefully we can rebound today. A big
thanks to all who made the Dawn Service at Longbeach
RSL, special thanks to Kate and the Netballers. We have
a very busy May upon us with the next 4 Saturdays at
home, please make sure we all get to the Footy and
support Brent and the boys. Against YCW the 19’s were
in the game most to the day but let it slip at the end,
well done Silv and Ben, the Two’s game was close for
a long way as well with Rory, Gards, Bryn and Curtis
all performing well. In the Seniors after a solid 1st half
a Bigger and Fitter YCW just over ran us in the second
half. Big Stewie battled well in the ruck against massive
odds and also jagged a goal which brought many a
smile from the Faithful, well supported by Toddy, Daino
and Scarce, keep working hard lads I’m sure there
is some joy just around the corner. Thanks to all the
boys who dined at the Heights last Thursday when
the ladies had a night off, we need more of this as the
Season progresses.
As i said earlier, May is a huge month for the Club,
Please see Richard and Max for tickets to the Lunch
9th May v’s Bonbeach, then enjoy all the action when
former Saints star Stephen Milne dons the hoops for the
Gulls. Will be a cracker day for sure !!
See you all at the Gullery..
Last week we travelled to Mornington in what turned
out to be 3 pretty good games of footy. The 19s kicked
the day off in style with a thumping 70 point win. It
was the first win for the unders against Mornington on
their home deck in a long time so super effort. Chiz led
the way with 4 goals along with Jai Thornell kicking 3.
We had many contributors in a solid display.
The twos had a tough clash but put up a spirited display.
Trailing by 30 points mid way through 3rd quarter we
managed to pile on 4 quick goals and reduce the deficit
to 3 points at the last break. Unfortunately we were
a man down for most of the last quarter and could
not manage to get over the line but plenty of positives
to take out of the game. Jules Walton continued his
great start to the year along with Joey Hallal, Benny
Duff, Silver Fox, big Bomber and Beast Doyle putting
in impressive displays. Another big challenge awaits us
today with a much improved Chelsea outfit
The Seniors were looking to rebound from a poor
performance against Bonny and didn’t disappoint in
their efforts and endeavours but were just outclassed
by a better Mornington side on the day, going down
by 32 points. Jimma Q battled manfully in the Ruck in
a BOG display, Matty Herbert and coach Ben Crowe
continued their great starts to the season, Rourke
Fischer was dominant across half back and will
hopefully get a gig this week with Collingwood’s VFL
side, Luke Smith hit his straps and Hendo was valiant
across half back.

Club Notes
Pines Pythons
Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles
Welcome to our 64th senior clash with Edi Asp since
1984, the scorecard reading Edi Asp 36, Pines 27.
Memorable in all these games and years were two
grand finals with Pines winning in 1988 and Edi in
2002. Two weeks ago we hosted Karingal where our
seniors were harried by the Bulls ‘til half time to be only
19pts ahead. Our team then took control and charged
to a 77pt win. Aaron Edwards cut loose for 5 goals
and Dale Tedge donated 3. Best; B.Cowell, B.Hendry,
L.Potts and Corey Ash was good in his first snr game.
Jock (aye laddie) Hendry was rapt when Gordon kicked
a Celtic type goal whilst suspended in mid-air in the
reserves game where the team kicked a retro 24gls for
a retro 145pt win. Rhys Chalkley bagged 6 and Jon
Edwards got 4. Best; B.Humphrey, R.Chalkley, S.Daniel.
Thirds continue to play their hearts out for the club and
it was good to see 19 lads out there, nearly a full team.
Ian Otai got the one goal this time. Best; J.Goldsmith,
R.Uncle, C.McSweeney. Some may have noticed that
the Thirds comp is now an u19 age group. This has
been brought about as an attempt to keep lads playing
on into the senior teams as it has been proven that
many young players are ‘retiring’ when their junior
years are through. Vacancies still exist for super
committee people. Be part of the team, enlist now. See
Barrie Chalkley, 0412 119552 or Travx. Alcohol is not
permitted in the change rooms at any time and those
standing outside the back door drinking, stay there.
The Last Bud.
Well we were back at Regents Park, with our early start
to the season, Round 3, wow things moving along
quickly in 2015, footy gods again smiled on us with
another great day for footy.
The 18s hit the ground running, narrowly getting
ahead in the first quarter, and then winning the
remaining three quarters, great effort with a few
players missing with senior team committments. Davey
C Martello Brodie judged the better players, a nice way
to bounce back from the week before.
In the reserves our boys who were very dissappointing
the week before came to play with the required work
rate, Campbell, A Moro and Byrnes worked strongly for
four quarters. Lets keep sticking together, and another
win will be just around the corner.
The seniors took the ground, with three fresh faces in
the Eagle, Harris, Steen, McKay it was always going
to be a test against Langy, they always matchup on
us well. Outplayed in the first half, we lifted our effort
in the second half, Clarke moved onto the ball to give
us some strength, McKay was getting touches on the
wing, and Big Fish proved to be a cool head down
back. We came hard at Langy, and after McKay slotted
a goal after the siren we salvaged a draw. Four quarters
of effort needed in the future, a nice early season
wakeup call I trust.
This week, Players Auction, get your groups together to
purchase some A1 Eagle Livestock!!!!!

Stingrays
Stingrays grind out a hard fought
win on Anzac Day against AFL
Queensland Scorpions…
The Dandenong Southern Stingrays continued on
their winning way with a very hard fought 14 point
victory over AFL Queensland Scorpions in the Round
4 TAC Cup match last Saturday. The Stingrays had
trained well during the week and prepared well for
an interstate travel. The Scorpions were pumped
from the word go and controlled the stoppages for
the first 5 minutes, but to the credit of the Stingrays
midfield and backline they nullified their dominance
especially in the air. As the first quarter siren sounded
Stingrays Jimmy Freeman took a strong mark and
kicked truly giving the visitors a 12 point margin.
The second term started well for the home team as
they scored the first goal. Gach Nyuon took control
in the Ruck and the midfield brigade locked down
and lifted their intensity and pressure on the young
Scorpions team. It became a game of defence played
between the arcs and the wings for both teams
played a pivotal role in scoring assists. After numerous
inside 50’s Queensland finally added their 2nd goal
for the term going into the long break 8 points down
and with all the momentum.

Frankston v Richmond
Richmond defeated Frankston by 53 points today in
heavy rain – Dale Fenney reports.
Frankston and Richmond collided in honor of the
ANZAC’s who fought for our country 100 years ago
in Gallipoli.
The first quarter started with a goal to Richmond’s
Liam Mcbean early. It was a hard heavy game with
the rain continuing to fall from start to finish. Ben
Lennon kicked a late goal for the Tigers to extend
their lead to 16 points at quarter time.
The second quarter began with the Tigers Nick Wynne
extending the lead out to four goals. Richmond
were strong in the contest with their bigger players
hanging on to marks in the wet. Liam Mcbean kicked
his second goal of the contest. A late quarter burst
by Richmond saw them secure two late goals coming
from Corey Ellis and Rian Mcgough. Half time came
and the visitors were out to a 42 point lead.
Frankston started the second half with three straight
goals to get them back into the game. Douglas
two. Pongracic one. Fair to say this period of play
demonstrated what this young Frankston team
is capable of. Two late goals again to the Tigers
20
The third saw the ball deep inside 50 for the Stingrays,
but very good defensive work from the Scorpions
saw them control the play and penetrate their inside
50 with no score. The heat which all thought would
be a factor for the travelling Stingrays seemed to
affect the Scorpions more who seemed to shut down
and stop their run and chase for a short period. The
second goal seemed to ignite the Scorpions, whilst
the Stingrays took their turn in showing fatigue
allowing two goals in a row to close the margin to 8
points as the siren sounded.
In the final term Black reminded players of the
Anzac Spirit which was a part of the pre-game
focus, “ANZAC’s were cheeky youth who had
thrown themselves into the brutal world of war and
proved to all, they were equal to anyone on the
battlefield.” This was a different battle, one played
out on the football ground. No one’s life was ever
going to be lost but the mateship, honor, respect and
commitment was called upon bellowed Black. As
they left the huddle 23 players made a stand as one
for the next 28 minutes.
It was a battle in the last, with both sides lifting but
unable to get a clear entry or straight shot only
peppering minor scores.
Next Saturday, May 2nd the Stingrays play at home
at 11.00am against NSW/ACT Rams for round 5 TAC
Cup clash. Entry is free.
Stingrays
3-3 5-4 7-6 10-9-69
Queensland 1-3 3-8 5-10 7-13-55
brought the margin back out to 5 goals when Ty
Vickery and Rian Mcgough scored for Richmond.
Three quarter time and the Tigers were out to a 34
point. The positive for Frankston was that they won
the quarter and showed determination.
The last quarter was a show piece with 11 goals
kicked. Early goals to Ben Lennon and Ty Vickery
made the mission almost impossible for Frankston.
Ben Cavarra converted an exciting goal through
for Frankston early on. Shaun Hampson, Liam
Mcbean, Jake Aarts and Ty Vickery (2) were the last
five goal scorers for Richmond. Frankston kicked
through another three goals to finish the game with
Nathan Gardiner, Josh Newman and Brayden Irving
converting.
The second half was most pleasing for Frankston
who only lost by 8 points. The Anzac Day Medalists
were Nathan Foote for Frankston and Nathan Foley
for Richmond.
Frankston coach Patrick Hill was pleased with the
second half but thought his team didn’t adapt to
conditions in the first half.
“Again we got off to a slow start, our intensity was
good, pressure was good but we just made too
many mistakes and didn’t adapt to the conditions
well enough.”

Feature Article
Let’s play Moneyball
The great debate about how much money clubs –
local clubs – should spend, can spend or do spend
on players in the pursuit of success is one that will
not go away.
This topic was argued with spirit over a beer
between a group of rival supporters at one of the
MPNFL ANZAC Day fixtures last weekend and, as
usual, there was no winner except the barman who
kept the discussion lubricated.
Without giving away the clubs involved, the exchange started like this:
Supporter A - “How much are you paying to field
that team… did you win Tattslotto?”
Supporter B – “That’s funny coming from you. You
blokes spent 10 years rorting the salary cap when
(name suppressed) was in charge.”
Supporter A – “At least our players will still be here
next year – yours won’t when the money runs out.”
And so it went on.
Every season, at about round three, the talk turns to
the haves and the have nots. On recent history top
clubs like Sorrento and Frankston YCW are expected
to be the benchmarks again but by now most
followers have an idea of which challengers have
recruited well and are looming. That is the catalyst
for scrutiny and, if it’s not their team, criticism from
rivals.
It is over a decade since the MPNFL trail-blazed for
local football and replaced the salary cap with the
current Player Points System. This opened the door
to what many declare as the big-money men. The
idea of the PPS was to encourage locally produced
players to stay and be looked after by their home
clubs and that has worked to a degree.
However some clubs, the richer clubs, have been
selective in which of these home-grown players they
have paid and still managed to land the big fish
around them with the lure of success and of course,
a decent pay packet.
This is no fault of these clubs and the fact that they
are well-managed and can attract good sponsorship
and a benefactor or two should be applauded.
There will always be those who delight in watching a big name player have a bad day with the old
‘that’s money well spent” gibe at the opposition
bench. It’s funny at the time but always hits home if
success costs more than it should.
Nobody, supporter or rival, wants to see any club
go the way of Carrum. The Lions were the last
MPNFL club to ‘go broke’ and shut their doors in
1996 after winning the senior premiership in 1994.
Former club stalwarts argue that it was a range of
issues that forced the 85 year-old club into oblivion
but the hard truth is the club spent too much to win
that last flag.
So the debate will continue to rage and different
clubs will be in the experts’ gun in 2015 but the
reality is quite simple. As long as club committees or
boards of management are vigilant and do not let
ego take control, they can spend whatever is available to create success.
Let’s face facts – the old salary cap returns were
greater works of fiction than Harry Potter and no
club official will argue with that.

VSHL SUA Record Write Up
The last couple of weeks have been huge on the
track. Great numbers have turned out for training
at both Seaford and Fountain Gate. We have had
guest speakers – Rob Haala (AFL Boundary Umpire)
and we had the drone down at Seaford training to
shoot some footage of drills. We have however experienced some difficulties behind the scenes. Uniform
supplies have taken a while to arrive leaving us short
in some sizes, our payment system has been slow in
setting up, and Schedula has had some hiccups. As
a board and coaching group we have been working
extremely hard in making sure that the behind the
22
scenes aspects are working as well as our on field
performance. We do apologise as some things are
out of our control. If we all continue to be patient
and support each other these issues will not affect us.
There was an error with the article last week and we
unfortunately were not featured in the record. I wanted to reiterate that we are privileged as an Association to have the opportunity to be a part of this great
game, and we thank those members of the armed
forces who all those years ago, and those that still do,
sacrifice everything so that we have the freedom to
play and participate.
To all umpires running this week remember our mantra – Umpiring together to build on best consistent
performance.

Netball Preview
Langwarrin v Bonbeach
Langwarrin were not quite strong
enough against Edi-Asp last week
and are hoping to come away with
a victory today. Bonbeach only
faced a narrow loss last week to 2014 finalist Mt Eliza
and will be hoping to step it up this week against the
Kangaroos. Langwarrin were competitive against Edi
– Asp and will come out firing this week against the
Sharks. This game could go either way.
Chelsea v Seaford
Another split round match sees neighbours Chelsea
face Seaford at home. Seaford defeated Mornington
last week by 5 goals while the Seagulls faced a
tough game against YCW going down by 23 goals.
Hopefully this match is closer for them. It must be
said that fielding four sides is quite an achievement
and Chelsea should be commended!
Pines v Edi - Asp
Edi – Asp get the bye in A grade this week with no
match against Pines. Pines B & C sides were beaten
convincingly last week by Karingal. Edi – Asp should
take out both wins comfortably.

I don’t want to be defensive straight up-as I am a
shooter but that edi-asp team were offensive.....
offensively unstoppable!
They proved it with their high scores against us last
weekend!
For the development grade’s first game ever, they
teamed up well. Ally, a returning player proved she was
a keeper -goal keeper that is, taking out our best on
with her great defense and awesome efforts.
C grade slugged it out but the ball was unlike the
Beyoncé song, they just couldn’t put a ring on it. Plenty
of room to improve and a group of ladies who are
willing to do the hard work.
B grade hit the ground running, except for Kezza who
just plain hit the ground! Only down by a few at the
first break, we just couldn’t keep up with a formidable
shooting duo.
A grade were missing a few players to Bali,Fiji and
a wedding. We hope they enjoyed their holidays
because when then get back to training it ain’t gonna
be no happy hour.
With no games ANZAC day we give thanks to our
diggers, past and present for our freedom to live our
wonderful lives and for working to protect our interests.
We wish one of our players, the lovely Jayde a happy
wedding day on this day, May 2nd and as a wedding
gift to you we hope to give you four wins, no seriously
that’s your gift.
Last week we travelled to Dingley to play our Round
7 match against Edi/Asp. The ANZAC OATH and one
minutes silence prior to each game was fully embraced
by both teams and was very moving.
The opposition proved too strong throughout the day
but there were some positives for the ‘Sharks’.
Some outstanding efforts came from Steph Chappel,
Kate Martin, Emma Campetelli & Bern Pulis. Well played
girls. We just need to settle more in front of goals and
work more on passes, particularly lobs.
The week before we played really well against Mt. Eliza
pushing them right to the end in A, B & C grade with
our D grade having another good win. Lets bounce
back this week against Langwarrin girls

Chelsea Seagulls
Seaford Tigers
It took our D girls awhile to settle into the game with
a few new players coming into the team. Georgia and
Brodie played a strong defence. Our goalers will need
to be more accurate to to apply scoreboard pressure.
The C girls played a strong game but dropping the
second quarter by 8 made it hard to fight back. Great
pressure through the centre court from the whole team
and with a few more games together as a team will
show our true potential.
The B girls started off strong against a competitive
Frankston but it just wasn’t our day, things didn’t fall in
place. The girls worked hard on their defence pressure
all the way down the court but we were down on
goalers and through a few balls away. These are easy
fixes. All in all a good effort by the B girls.
A good solid effort by the A Grade girls, the defence
pressure across court was brilliant. Andrea ran a great
game in C while Zoe produced some great work in
goals. Hayley worked extremely hard in GD not only in
the circle but all down the court. Positive signs moving
forward for the A team.
Round 3; 2 out of 4 aint bad
What a week it was down at Padua College. Each
grade provided fast paced action packed games! D
grade improved by leaps and bounds this week putting
everything from training into play and only went down
by 15. C grade was close but no cigar. The girls have
only lost by under 5 goals each game which although
isn’t ideal shows that we are right there with them. I
can smell a win coming soon!B grade came out all guns
blazing and pulled off a great win. Props to the defence
line whose ability to read the play and pick off those
loose balls was second to none. A Grade girls started
the game off a bit slow giving Morno the early jump.
To our girls credit, we fought hard and went into each
quarter pushing until we finally got the break and won
by 4 goals. Welcome Nish you smashed it in your first
game! Fresh faces at the footy club on Saturday night
for the Frat party. Beer pong saw more ping pong balls
flying around than you would see in Thailand and a bit
of family bonding at its finest

Pines Pythonettes
Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles
Before having ANZAC weekend off, Pines hosted
Karingal at home, welcoming them to Linen House
in Seaford. Presented with a stronger than expected
line up, the Pythons C Grade took to the court in their
brand new dresses. Now featuring the iconic snake
logo, thanks goes to Frankston Hyundai, Chelgrave
Contracting, A-Z Automotive Repairs Seaford and T&S
Messina for signing on over 3 years as uniform sponsors.
Unfortunately, despite trialling some new combinations
to tackle Karingal, the sharp shooting of the away team
wasn’t able to be shut down. However, in true team
spirit, the girls stuck together and didn’t drop their
heads. It took courage to keep fighting hard, when the
scores weren’t too motivating. Best on went to captain
Brea Sutton. Inspired by the efforts of C grade, when
B grade took up position on court, they pushed hard.
Holding possession and converting centre passes didn’t
come easy, and B grade showed class in their defeat.
Best on was awarded to Martha Langham, killing it in
defence and staying solid throughout the game. The
tough match ups gave us a few injuries but also plenty
to work on, and we look forward to hosting Edi Asp
this weekend.
Go Pythons!
The Arkay Concrete Round 3
Thank you to Rob from Arkay Concrete for coming
on board as a round & player sponsor this season.
Rob sponsors Josie, our new ‘hotshot’ goaler & as a
supporter of our club, give him a call in relation to all
your concreting needs.
Last week we played on Anzac Day against Bonbeach
at Dingley. It was great to see the support for the girls,
as with no football games scheduled, the sporting club
faithful rolled up to watch the netball.
Despite the miserably weather, the rain obliged by
holding off during the games & as the courts dried the standard of the games improved. We came away
with four strong wins & unfortunately, two injuries so
the couple of byes this week are welcomed!
Today we play Pines & it will be terrific to play in dry
conditions at their indoor stadium. While it is only the
B & C grade girls who pull on their uniforms this week
- hats off to all the faithful Pines netballers for working
so hard to keep their club together.
On the social scene we have our ‘Round the World’
players disco on at Regents Park. See Wendo or DMar
for more details. Make sure you join your team mates
tonight as the first function of the season is bound to
be a ripper!!
Good luck to all Eagle teams today!

Where would your club
be without you?
They’re players, coaches, committee members, volunteers and supporters. And every week,
their club relies on the contribution of every one of them. But they’re also farmers, tradesmen,
office workers, truck drivers and much more as well. And doing those jobs safely, in safe
working environments, is vital. To the workers, their families – and to their footy club.
PROUD SPONSOR OF COUNTRY FOOTY FOR OVER 10 YEARS.
