What a finish to the Nepean League home and away round last weekend! It had all the skill, passion and tension that we associate with our great game, mixed with the raw emotion of joy that goes with snatching a last gasp spot in next weekend’s finals as Red Hill did, along with the associated devastation that consumed Rye as the Demons watched their 2015 season end. Again local football was the winner and again the MPNFL was the centre of the action. And so the finals begin with all Nepean League followers focussed on the events set to unfold over the next four weeks. Congratulations to minor premiers Rosebud and good luck to all participants in this week’s semi-final round. Nine of the 12 clubs in Nepean League will be represented in the football finals series, which represents wonderful close competition and the strength of the league as a whole. Results were similar in the Nepean League netball competition with again eight clubs fielding finals sides including representation from the three sides that did not make football finals. This means that every Nepean League club will have at least one side competing on the big stage this weekend and that fact should be celebrated. The league administration is not focussed on one team or club above another and every season our greatest wish is to see every club play well, attain offfield strength and financial security and, above all, enjoy the strong social and community culture of the MPNFL. Finals time is a chance to put all those traits on show and we at the office are looking forward to the coming weeks as much as any. The final round of Peninsula League will also be a highlight this weekend and, while the top five has been set for several weeks, top spot and the allimportant double chance is still up for grabs so tension will still be around until the final siren at Mt Eliza. As the season winds up clubs will celebrate their individual award winners and so will the MPNFL. This year, like everything else, we are doing it a little differently with the football and netball awards evenings combined for the first time. The Nepean Football and Netball awards will be held on Wednesday 9 September at Mornington Racing Club, starting at 6.30pm, followed by the Peninsula Football and Netball event on Monday 14 September, again starting at 6.30pm at the Mornington Racing Club. Please contact the office for more information. With finals upon us now it is also timely to remind all attending that no BYO alcohol will be permitted at any finals venue at any time. Please observe the Dry and Wet areas that will be in operation at each venue. To all involved - enjoy the finals series and represent your club and our league with respect and pride. To all watching, please support and cheer and encourage your sides with the same respect. It is fair to say that 2015 has been a year of extremes and the changes that have occurred behind the scenes have been many and far-reaching. Processes to ensure football and netball across the Peninsula and Nepean League areas grows and remains vibrant and relevant continue to be developed. As our key stakeholders all clubs will continue to be informed and consulted as we move into an even more exciting era of local sport. peninsula football netball league DISCLAIMER & COPYRIGHT All editorial material and photographs published in the record are subject to copyright laws and may not be reproduced without written consent from the MPNFL. The eight Games of the Month have again travelled far and wide, starting with the battle of the bridge between Ocean Grove and Barwon Heads, before visiting every corner of the Victoria and finishing in the Yarra Ranges for the clash between Yarra Junction and Thornton-Eildon. WorkSafe’s partnership with AFL Victoria Country, and these events in particular, provide a platform to highlight the dangers that too often are taken for granted in the workplace. It also reminds supporters, volunteers, players and coaches of the impact a workplace injury or death would have on the local football community. But as we have seen in 2015, arguably the biggest appeal of the events is the opportunity they provide clubs to attract a large crowd, raise funds and reap the rewards of increased bar and canteen takings. Each event includes a fully funded luncheon with renowned guest speakers such as David Parkin, Peter Knights, Terry Daniher and Sharelle McMahon. While the WorkSafe Games of the Month have proved a huge hit in each venue this year it was the event down in Thorpdale on July 19 that provided one of the most memorable matches of recent years. Without finals action for some years, the Thorpdale community rallied for the Sunday blockbuster against reigning premiers Mirboo North. A huge crowd gathered on a glorious winter’s day and both coaches acknowledged the finals-like atmosphere when speaking to their chargers before the game. David Parkin and Sharelle McMahon entertained the pre-match luncheon while kids outside ran amok on the giant AFL Victoria inflatables. But the fun had only just begun. With the home side leading at the half time break, the kids took over the oval as a small plane flew overhead dropping packets of potato chips as it crossed the ground. The warmth of the afternoon sun slowly might have slowly disappeared as the match wore on but the action in the middle was just heating up. After clinching the A-Grade netball match, Mirboo North threatened to again spoil the party out on the field when they charged within one straight kick in the dying seconds. But the mighty Dales kept their composer, holding firm in defence, to claim a hard-fought victory. The scenes at Thorpdale will be replicated as more venues in 2016 with the WorkSafe Games of the Month set to continue into a 13th year in a partnership with Netball Victoria. The Redlegs have been brilliant this season and deserve top spot. They also could do with a rest to allow them to recharge ahead of a big finals campaign. Now that he’s got the ton, Mt Eliza goal maestro Justin Van Unen may be an even more dangerous proposition for opposition sides. He was well held (by his standards) by Edi-Asp earlier in the season, kept to three goals, and may be keen to show the Eagles his true ability today. The Redlegs continue to have players step up. Former Dolphin Karl Lombardozzi was best-on in the Mounties win over Edi-Asp earlier in the season and has been in good nick in recent weeks. Edi-Asp kicked their highest score of the season as they thrashed Seaford by 94 points last week, yet coach Graeme Yeats wasn’t totally happy with certain aspects of his side’s performance. Yeats is a perfectionist and wants his side to be peaking in time for finals. Eagles spearhead Jarrod Garth has kicked at least a goal in all of his 15 games this season and is coming off a bag of eight. Former Richmond left footer Brett O’Hanlon has had a consistent season and, notably, was in sparkling form last week. Still a chance to grab third spot, Edi-Asp will go flat out to topple the Mounties today. “There will be a bit of heat in it for sure,’’ Yeats said. Star Edi-Asp midfielder Tim Mannix is a chance to return today. Brent Guerra’s CHELSEA gets one last chance to beat a top-five side this season when it meets finals-bound PINES. The Seagulls’ wings have been clipped by injuries in the second half of the season but, with four victories, they’ve still managed to double their win tally of last year. “I thought halfway through the year we were pushing the good sides when we had a full team,’’ Guerra said. 6 “And then we lost a lot of our senior players through injury, and they were season-ending injuries. We’ve struggled in the back end of the season.’’ Looking for positives, Chris Charity had a breakout game last week, slotting a career-best six goals to help the Seagulls beat Karingal. And the form of Todd Gardiner has been outstanding; he’s figured in the best players six weeks in a row. Pines, which seems likely to face Edi-Asp in next week’s elimination final, will look to get through injury-free. On form, the Pythons (who pushed Mt Eliza last week) should be too good for Chelsea. Pines star Aaron Edwards has been terrific this season and will look to add to his tally of 59 goals. This time last year LANGWARRIN was beating Frankston YCW to grab a finals berth. There will be no such excitement for the Kangaroos today. Their finals hopes ended weeks ago and today’s expected win against KARINGAL will mark the end of a frustrating season for the Kangaroos. Karingal has stuck to the task right to the end, despite copping some heavy defeats. The closest the Bulls got to a win was 36 points last week against Chelsea, and they’ll be keen to finish a trying season with their heads held high. www.peninsulafnl.com.au Footy Preview SEAFORD has conceded almost 50 goals in its past two games and will be happy to see the season come to a close today. But another difficult day awaits the Tigers, who get the pleasure of encountering a flaghunting and rampaging FRANKSTON YCW. The Stonecats’ priority today will be to get through unscathed before setting out after yet another premiership. Quietly, YCW have been introducing fresh blood amid their winning streak. Teenager Matt La Fontaine kicked his first goal in senior footy last week, while Tommy Olden and Tom Capp made their senior debuts last week. Rookie Charlie Patterson continues to make his way. They are all good signs for the future for this great club. BONBEACH and MORNINGTON square off in an interesting contest at Shark Park. Bonny, which will finish seventh regardless, will be looking for its second win over the Bulldogs this season, while finals-bound Mornington needs to win to secure third spot and a finals double chance. But, make no mistake, this is a danger game for the Bulldogs. Bonbeach scored a stirring win over Mornington back in June, the Sharks laying a record 97 tackles to stun the Bulldogs by 10 points on their home turf. Bonbeach forward Nathan Robinson set the tone with a tireless work rate, while skipper Jackson Casey starred. Mornington is coming off a 94-point win over Langwarrin and will be eager to tune up for finals with a slick display. After going so close to the Holy Grail last year, the Bulldogs are hungry for success. Michael Voss BULLDOGS IN BOX SEAT IN THE RESERVES… The make-up of the five looks well and truly set going into the last round. SEAFORD could still snatch third spot but our money is on MORNINGTON to beat Bonbeach and secure its place in the qualifying final. CHELSEA will play finals and could be a surprise packet with several players set to return from senior duties. The Seagulls today tackle PINES, which will be keen to atone after going goalless last week. MT ELIZA (16-1) will complete an outstanding homeand-away season against EDI-ASP before chasing back-to-back flags. LANGWARRIN, with Nathan Whyte in good form, should improve its record to 8-10 by beating KARINGAL. STONECATS IN FORM IN THE UNDER 19s… FRANKSTON YCW, with Patrick Davenport and Tyler Sigley in cracking form, should secure the minor premiership with a win over SEAFORD, although the Tigers will be ferocious, needing to win to be a chance of finals. LANGWARRIN has struggled of late and finishes the season with a home game against a talented KARINGAL side gearing up for a finals campaign. CHELSEA has shown it can match it with any side and will be looking forward to launching its finals campaign. Steve Brattle’s MT ELIZA meets EDI-ASP in what should be a great warm up for finals. Big Jack, Harps, Silv & Stepho all tried hard but we need to find contributions right across the board over the coming weeks. The 2’s whilst still undermanned really set themselves and got back on track in great style, thanks to the youngsters for helping out. Bourkey, Trewy & Caspa controlled all thinks down back, Ben Finemore dominated in the middle and some great signs up forward with Luke Clark and Big Ozzy teaming up really well. Stevie and Shaneo have juggled in grand style over recent times , some big in’s coming up so let’s get down to business lad’s. In the main event we jumped out of the blocks and made the mistake of assuming the job was done at Qtr time. Bounced back with a solid 2nd Half and got the money, Well done Toddy in crabbing the Max Greenbury Medal, and well done to both clubs in creating this award. Chas !! 6 majors, great work mate, thought Jayden was super and Jason Clark gave us a target up forward. Big welcome to Pines this week and here’s hoping we can put up a strong performance to finish off the season in the Seniors ! See you at the Gullery !! Mt Eliza Red Legs Welcome to the Edi-Asp FNC today. Well done to all sides on wins last Saturday at Pines. The U/19’s got the job done early with a big win against a spirited outfit. Ben Whitfort booted 5, Chop 4 and other better players were Joel Monger, Nick McK, Cuz and Zach. In a low scoring first half the Reserves kicked away with 8.7 to 0.2 after half time time to win by 80. Willo booted 3 & Drakey & Coley a couple each. Best players were Campelj, Branca, Willo, Mitch Anwyl, Coley & Pookie. After a sluggish start the Seniors kept Pines at bay for the rest of the game and despite a late rally were able to get the points. Congrats to JV who booted his 100th Goal, becoming just the 2nd Redleg to achieve this feat! Better players were Gilly, Lombo, Barto, Snoz, Boota & Heasa. Another tough game today against a fellow finals aspirant. Special thanks to all the ladies & gents that have worked in the canteen on Saturdays & prepared the Thursday night meals throughout 2015 - Too many names to mention here, but your efforts are appreciated! The Unders won in emphatic fashion to set up a crucial game today to hold on to top spot for the home and away season. Davenport, Lee x2 & Sigley good all day. Coach Strickland sifted through local retirement homes to find talent to field a team last week however came up empty. So Andy Schneider was brought in instead and peeled of 4 big ones in a big win for the ressies. Chev, Crash and Jem were excellent. The ones shifted the deck chairs with 6 outs. Against Bonny who were plucky all day the boys prevailed by 50 points in clinical fashion. Ulmer, Kyle & Santon lead the way. Congrats to the Tommy’s (Capp and Olden) on their debuts. The club is running the bar at the finals this year and are calling out to all supporters to help out. If you can spare a few hours to help please see Buzz, Coey or Hatchy. Disappointingly, the first time in Peninsula we haven’t got a footy team into finals. A big thanks to all coaching and administration staff that have kept the club ticking over this year. Thanks also to Chelsea for the respect shown to the memory of club legend Max Greenbury. On the field the Unders had a cracking win in great conditions to cement their spot in the 5 and set themselves to lock in 3rd with a win today. The Ressies battled but some great signs with young blokes coming through including some 17 years olds who have been getting some great experience this year and the seniors 10 www.peninsulafnl.com.au Club Notes Seaford Tigers END OF SEASON FUNCTION AT CLUBROOMS TONIGHT!! Last week we travelled up to Edithvale, the 19s has a must win game to keep our finals hopes alive and it was a cracker. The boys got off to a solid start, leading by 13 points at the main break before kicking away in the 3rd and winning by 7 goals. Matty Herbert starred with 3 goals in a dominant display, Ash Burks and Jimmy Farrell were solid down back, whilst Hayden Harvey, Benny Searle and skipper Harley Cook shone. Another massive game this week with a must win clash againt the top side. The Reserves won their 7th out of the last 8 games in a game in which we always looked in control, winning by 28 points. A big thanks to Nashy for filling in, we hope he enjoyed the experience. The ageless Shorty Walker was BOG yet again, Spence McCartney, Rizza Harun and Cam Newbold set the game up from the back half with plenty of run and carry, Benny Duffield stood up at CHF and Pesa was his usual busy self. The undermanned Senior side got off to a bright start in their clash, leading by 4 points. Unfortunately it all went pear shaped after this as Edi piled on 21 goals to 5 in a dominant display. The effort was there from the guys but we were simply outclassed. Dean Williamson, Brendan Doyle, Johnno Haidon and Trae Tohiariki gave their all in the midfield, Mitch Finn was solid in the ruck yet again and Levi Hughes had a dip up forward and down back. Hopefully the guys can finish off with a solid effort today against a pretty powerful YC Mornington Bulldogs Great day at the kennel last week with 3 from 3. The unders had a great win & played four quarters of really good honest footy. Our older boys also raised their intensity which gave us the edge over a very determined Langwarrin side. The reserves did a great job to lead from start to finish in a close encounter with Langwarrin. They knew the opposition would be tough as they were playing for their season and every time they got close we managed to kick a goal to steady the ship. With only a couple of goals separating the teams for the majority of the day we eventually ran out 13 point winners. Barto was sensational through the middle of the ground, Browny played his best game for the club whilst Pete and Pud racked up plenty of the footy through the middle. The seniors did a great job in Baz’s 150th, bouncing back from the previous week to play four quarters of quality footy. They started strongly kicking six goals to three in the opening term and followed it up with the same result in the second quarter to be leading by 37 points at half time. The focus in the rooms at half time was around sticking to team structures and ensuring quality disposal going forward. Mossy was great off a half back flank, well supported by Waz and Jai. Our forward line also looked dangerous all day with Jacko kicking 6, Lofty 3 and Symes working really hard presenting through the middle of the ground. Another massive test this week, wins in the reserves and seniors guarantees the double chance come finals! www.peninsulafnl.com.au 11 Club Notes Bonbeach Sharks Well done to all players, coaches, supporters and all volunteers who have helped this year at Bonbeach Football Netball Club. It has been a busy year with moving into the new rooms, we also had new coaches thanks to Steve Hughes for Seniors, Josh Bull for Reserves and thanks to Adam Sands who will be leaving us this year to be replaced by Brad Sykes for 2016. We would like to thank Adam for all the hard work over the last 3 years. We also introduced the clubs “Beyond the Boundary Line” and held many functions over the year. Huge congratulations to Daniel Smith for making 300 games a huge achievement and one we as a club are very proud of. Today we are holding past player’s day, so welcome to the new rooms and we look forward to seeing a great match against Mornington on the final home game. We still have a few busy weeks with the $5000 draw on Sunday 30th, Sportsman business Lunch with Rex Hunt & Tim Watson on Friday September 4th, and don’t forget presentation night on Friday September 11th at 7pm. Again thank you to everyone who has supported the Sharks this year and we look forward to 2016. Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles Our final home and away trip for the year is a challenging one at Mt Eliza, yet an important one as the seniors prepare for finals action and the U19’s fight for 5th spot. First vs fourth in the seniors and second vs fifth in the U19’s promise some high quality games along with our 2’s who have improved tremendously. Last weekend the netballers recorded four strong wins to continue their great form. In the footy the U19’s came up against a strong Tigers line up determined to force their way into finals contention. Seaford pulled away in the second half for a convincing win. Best for Edi were Jake O’Neill, Jordan Davey and Will Balsillie. The seconds came up against a finals bound opponent but were outstanding in their effort. The game was competitive across the ground, but our inability to hit the scoreboard cost us and Seaford got up by 28. Ultimately, conceding four second quarter goals was the difference. Rowey, Craigy and Chanty were best 12 for the Eagles in another encouraging performance. In the seniors, Seaford took it up to us in the first quarter with a big after the siren goal giving them the lead. That shocked the Eagles into action and we didn’t look back, kicking 21 goals after quarter time. Garthy slotted 8, Bretto 4 and the big fella 3. Others to impress were Mullo, Clarky, Taggy and Watto. Join us back at Regents after the game for our B&F vote count up to round 16. Promises to be exciting! www.easc.com.au Pines Pythons Club Historian Fact File. A number of our players will be playing their last game for 2015 today and so with this in mind we dedicate this column space to a player who after 30 seasons could be playing his last game ever but then I wouldn’t put money on that either. Gordon Hendry is this player and he has played 494 club games for us (323 snr, 171 res) and has kicked 184 snr goals and 43 res goals. He has accrued many well deserved honours including senior and reserves team ‘Best and Fairest’ trophies and has inclusion in a senior premiership team. There is no doubt that there will be more said if ‘the big fella’ is officially retiring and I for one, and being one who was out there with him for his very first club game in 1986, take this moment to say “well done Gordo, you’ve been great”. The level of care and the ability to keep caring despite every problem that faces your club, our league or AFL football as a whole, is the trick. If you have ever leaned against the bar of a local club and listened to the thoughts of those that frequent it, you would have to believe that MPNFL football followers are clearly among the most caring of all. That culture of passion for our game goes back to juniors or even kicking the footy with dad and his mates when you were barely old enough to walk, let alone baulk. The feeling also translates to club leadership where it is incumbent that the care and passion that players and supporters have for the game and their team mates is nurtured. Experienced coaches like Tony Blackford at Red Hill and Pat Swayn at Pines are great examples of mentors that instil this into their charges. That normally transmits throughout the entire side and ultimately the club and, more often than not, results in success. Every weekend at many if not most MPNFL venues you will find supporters leaning over fences urging their charges on and – yes it happens – giving those that dared to don an opposition guernsey a spray. Nobody would dare suggest that those barrackers don’t care. At this stage of the season we allow ourselves to take a look backwards and assess what made us laugh, cry or hot under the collar – what has made us care. Obviously the sudden resignation of the MPNFL Board of Directors after a tumultuous fallout with clubs was a shock to the system, particularly as it came well after the season had started. That led to the departure of the league CEO and a new administration regime under AFL South East. That said, football and netball continued without a ripple and it is fair to say that once the newspaper headlines became fish-and-chip wrappers, not that many cared any more. The real issues are, and always have been closer to home. Potholes in grounds, injuries to key players, money in the bank and generally just keeping the wheels of the club turning all take precedence over things we cannot control. Right now coaches with teams still in the fight for a premiership have narrowed their focus to the things that directly affect that goal, but the others are looking towards as they say, ‘the bigger picture’. Coaching positions will be up for grabs – some will go willingly, others kicking and screaming – and then there will be the election of presidents, committee and football departments who, in turn will throw themselves in to next season’s planning. Try telling any one of those people that they don’t care and you will feel the wrath of ages. Football and netball in our region exists on passion and loyalty… and that’s because we all bloody well care! www.peninsulafnl.com.au 21 22 www.peninsulafnl.com.au Frankston Park News Frankston v Port Melbourne Port Melbourne have taken a big win at North Port Oval against Frankston winning by 146 points – Dale Fenney Reports It was Frankston’s last game of the season and it defiantly didn’t go the way the club was expecting. Port Melbourne kicked 33 goals for the game and had 14 individual goal kickers throughout the day. The first term saw a massive 11 goals kicked as the Borough took the lead early. Port Melbourne started the day off with a mammoth 8 goals and Frankston had 3 goal scorers through Brandon Wood, Josh Pickess and Nathan Gardiner. Port Melbourne led by 33 points at quarter time. The second quarter saw a goal to goal start with Port kicking a goal followed by a Nathan Gardiner goal before another Port goal finishing with Jordan Pollard kicking a goal for Frankston. Port Melbourne closed the quarter out with the final three goals to take a 51 point half time advantage. Stingrays “RAYS RAMPAnT AGAInST JETS” by MITCH BROWN The Dandenong Southern Stingrays have cemented their place as a TAC Cup premiership front-runner with an 85-point demolition of the Western Jets at Burbank Oval on Sunday afternoon. The Stingrays are now certainties to finish top-four and qualify for the double chance, with just one match left to play before finals. The depth of the Dandenong playing list continues to be a talking point – even with the omissions of running defender Thomas Glen, midfield stalwart Kurt Mutimer, All-Australian U18 ruckman Gach Nyuon and key position utility Daniel Capiron, the Stingrays were able to run away with the four points. Instrumental in the win were the efforts of Thomas Jok, who picked up 28 disposals and a whopping 12 inside-50s, a dominant midfield led by Mitch Cox and Jake Kelly, and a dangerous multi-armed forward attack including leading-goalkicker James Freeman, under-sized dynamo duo of Shannon Gladman and Zak Roscoe as well as returning tall Liam Hulett. With finals just around the corner, it’s become obvious that Coach Craig Black and his staff have a tough The second half began with Port Melbourne extending their lead with the first 3 goals of the quarter. Frankston then went on to replicate the Borough with the next 3 goals with Aaron Wilson, Sam Fox and Josh Pickess all scoring goals in three minutes. Once again Port Melbourne closed the quarter out with the final 4 goals of the term. Port Melbourne led by 79 points at three quarter time. Port Melbourne dominated the final term which saw them add another 13 goals in the quarter alone whilst Frankston only scored 2 goals with Ben Cavarra kicking one on the run from outside fifty and Brayden Irving scoring the other goal for Frankston. Port Melbourne had 14 individual goal kickers with Scott Clarke (6) and Jordan Lisle (5) leading the day with the most goals. Port Melbourne took a 146 point victory. And we want to show that to everyone.” “The challenge this group has ahead of us is every other team we have is also a very good team aiming for the same result- deep into September.” The focus for the rampant Stingrays now turns to their last game of the home-and-away season, against the Geelong Falcons on Sunday at Simonds Stadium starting at 1.00pm. Undefeated for the season the Bulls will be looking to finish off a perfect season. Mt Eliza v Edi Asp This game will be match of the round! The Redlegs host the Eagles at Toorak College in a battle of two versus three on the ladder. Can Mt Eliza overcome the Eagles and keep that third position over YCW? The Eagles have a locked in their top two finish and get the second chance come finals time. Seaford v Frankston YCW Seaford welcome the Stonekittens to Linen House in what will be a tough game for them. YCW are sitting fourth on the ladder whilst Seaford are fifth but cannot make finals sitting two games behind. The Tigers started off the season in excellent form whilst YCW have been the more consistent team of the two. Bonbeach v Mornington Mornington travel to Cannes Ave this week in the hope of finishing the season off with a high and take the four points. Bonbeach are eight on the ladder as opposed to Mornington’s seventh position so this will make for a competitive tussle! Luckily for us this year it’s far from over! Last week we hosted Chelsea at the Bullpit and came away with three great wins. Credit to Chelsea, they were certainly competitive and didn’t give up. In D grade Steph and Caitlin dominated in the goal ring both giving best on performances. Steph backed in up and played half a game in C grade and shot like a boss. Mel and Rach in defence stopped eveything that came their way keeping Chelsea to less that 6 goals a quarter! B grade came out strong and never let Chelsea into the game running away with a 46 goal victory. An injury to Brooke moved Sara T into the centre where she thrived. Ash was great in WA and Jayde and Renee were sensational in defence. Jess and Nadine were solid in goals as usual - it’s not that far up for Jess! Great last home game of the season for all! A relaxing ladies day in the sun followed with Bec O best on - not an in tact wine glass to be seen. Thanks to Digger and Renae for organising and Heather Aron for the raffle items! This week we take on neighbours Langy before heading out to the bright lights and big city in a function organised by the footballers. #GOBULLS #BULLETTES2015 Pines Pythonettes Last week we welcomed Mt Eliza to our final home game. Our superstar C Graders took home another win, and will be looking to do the same today against Chelsea to finish their season with a well earned winning streak. The way these girls have come together is a testament to these wins - best on against Mt Eliza went to Nana for her accurate goaling and strong presence in the circle. B Grade weren’t so fortunate. The girls fought hard, but are constantly facing unknown battles each week on court which never makes it easy. Best on to Ky who killed in defence then stepped up to have a crack at goals. They’ll be looking to get the points over Chelsea, and hopefully we see two wins to finish out the Pythons season. We then get to celebrate what was a trying season, but we have now established a solid foundation on which we will build for 2016. Party back at KB’s after the game, preseason starts 30 in October, and then we do it all again next year! Thanks for a great season - we owe a debt to to Stacey, Kelly, Judy for everything they do for us week in and out. To our passionate cheer squad on the sidelines, including our mini Pythons. And to every single girl that took the court in red and green this year - through everything, we have stood strong... as a team. Win or lose... as a team. Rise or fall... as a team. And next year, we rise... bigger and better than ever. As a team. GO PYTHONS! Seaford Tigers TIGER times! Where has the year gone? This week marks the last round for all of our teams with edi asp stealing all finals hope from our A graders on Saturday. This year has been a positive year for the club, rebuilding with plenty of new faces on the court and a completely new coaching panel. We are excited for the prospects of the club going in the right direction to come back bigger and better for 2016. Special mention to Rach C who thanks to Tay has an ankle larger than ex-coach crowes ego. Que music “now watch her trip(whip).. over tay tay (nay nay)”. Fingers crossed for the speediest of recoveries we missed you on the court Saturday. Thanks must go to Keira Wills who gave up her time on Wednesday night to run the A grades through their paces and impart some of her goaling knowledge to the girls. It was definitely well utilised this week with el president C Rob doing more roll offs then you’d see at country ho down. Looking forward to this week against YCW and hoping to go out with a bang and see a couple of wins. Remember ladies vote count this Saturday followed by the end of season party. Once again all of our teams are headed for the finals & without your support this would not have been possible - everyone at Eagles Netball appreciates your help! Thank you!! Last week we played the Tigers at Dingley & the A grade game was a fantastic contest! When playing the Tigers you always know you’re got a game on your hands but when the Tigers are fighting for a top four berth - they’re even more dangerous! It was a tough match with both teams hard at the ball & it was a great to play such a tight game, so close to finals. This week we travel to Toorak College to play our long time rivals Mt Eliza & while the final four in all grades seem to be set, there’s a hell of lot of reasons for our girls to play their best! A perfect way to end the season & prepare for the rigours of the coming weeks. Good luck to all Eagle teams playing this week! Especially the boys from the EAJFC & our football girls who are playing in their Preliminary Finals this weekend. Fly Eagles!! Bonbeach Sharkettes This week we welcome Mornington to our home court for the last time this year and trust it will be four competitive games as it always is. This year has been a rewarding one with the new D grade team making the finals and our other grades improving noticeably throughout the course of season. Special thanks to all that participated and helped, especially when we needed players to sacrifice their game for the good of the club. Thanks again to Carly for her efforts throughout the year. Its been a monumental job to coach four teams and I hope everyone extends their thanks to Carly at todays end. Thanks also to our executive committee Bea, Steph and Kirsty and our social helpers, especially Jess , Bec & Jodie. Lets enjoy today and get behind the D grade next week in their 1st semi final. Go Sharks Granma Dee Mt Eliza Red Legs It was an up and down weekend against Pines. With c grade going down in a physical contest, with some of the usual suspects out we had to adjust to new combinations and struggled to make up the deficit in our defence, B grade held strong in an equally tough game and are looking strong heading into finals. With 2 sides rested we are champing at the bit to take on Edi asp. Long time rivals we expect a strong, physical but fair exchange and we can’t wait! Thanks to all the girls for a great season! Always giving everything and then some, don’t forget to head back down the club some to celebrate the season that was and the rest lets rally together and bring home 5 flags!! 32 www.peninsulafnl.com.au Netball Notes Langwarrin Kangaroos I’ve been a player for 3 years and this year I took on the netball manager roll. It’s a massive job and I knew that going in and I have enjoyed every minute of it (well 98%!). I give a massive thanks to Kim who has been my right and left hand this year, and definitely my memory bank too! Always getting in there with sleeves rolled up. I in no way, shape or form could’ve done it without her. Our coaching team have had a tough year but I thank them for never giving up without a huge fight. Resilience is a trait I admire most. Not only are they coaches but they’re mentors, referees, mothers, councilors, spiritual gurus, first aiders, mind readers and friends. I thank my gorg umpires and scorers, especially Bernadette who give up their time to help us out. The playing group really grew this year with the introduction of the development grade. With 12 or so new faces we moulded into a great bunch of team mates. Our A and B grade didn’t finish where we expected to but we learn from this year and look forward to a hard preseason for success in 2016. C grade, are in the finals and we couldn’t be more excited for them. Their momentum leading up to this point will absolutely make them strong contenders. D grade have today to win to also get in the finals. We wish them the best and we have faith in them to get this done. We thank our trainers and physio staff, our sponsors RAMS and Lifecare Frankston, Berrettas Langwarrin. Good luck to all my girls with our vote count tonite and good luck to all in the finals. Kerri Besanko Go ROOS. www.peninsulafnl.com.au 33 Netball Notes Frankston YCW StoneKittens Last week our Kittens faced the Sharks in some great games. D needed a win to cement their finals chances & came out guns blazing. Unfortunately Bonnie fought back & stopped our girl’s momentum. With such a large development squad, rotations are always hard however the girls adapt well & always give it all. Claire dominated the centre court with plenty of turn overs & LozBoz tough as always, really made the shooters work. Next up C had a slower game with some great patches of play. With lots of players out the girls played full games & all worked hard for those 15mins, paying off with a win. Best on to KP for her standard amazing defence all day. Special mentions to Paige DaBoner for stepping up to C & sticking to her job 100% B had a scorcher, the sun really starting to take its toll, a game filled with lots of tips & great back up of each other they took the win & possibly heatstroke. BOG went to a welldeserved Cat who killed it in the mid court going for every ball she could. The defensive end was awesome with Rubie putting her body on the line always. Lastly, we had A with girls putting everything together coming into finals – plenty of clearing & strong drives. BOG went to Lyshae with her long limbs putting pressure over every pass causing turn overs. Next to Tilly with great defensive teamwork. Special mentions to Katie Schneider, Evonne Heenan & Tyler Barry for celebrating 50 games. Great work girls. This week is Cat v Cat when we take on Seaford @ Seaford. Meow!
