What do you think? Feedback to: [email protected] 6th Mother’s Day Stall 10th—12th NAPLAN Each year students in years 3 and 5 participate in this national assessment program that tests knowledge in Literacy and Numeracy. Students are assessed using common tests in Reading, Writing, Language Conventions (Spelling, Grammar and Punctuation) and Numeracy. The types of test formats and questions are chosen so that they are familiar to teachers and students across Australia. For students to be able to achieve their best during these sessions, it is important that they are relaxed. Parents can support this by minimising conversations about the test and by reassuring your child/ren that these tests are just part of school. Year three students are more likely to feel some anxiety about NAPLAN as they will be participating for the first time. At Chelsea PS we like to ensure that students have been well prepared for the types of questions they might face in the assessments. As a staff, we analyse the data received to know which types of questions students find more challenging. Teachers incorporate this knowledge into lesson planning to support student learning. If you have any concerns about your child and NAPLAN you should speak to your child’s teacher. If you do not wish your child to participate in this assessment please let me know. If you have not returned the consent form your child can still meet the Challenge but will not receive a certificate or have their names listed in the Honour Roll. Teachers are still selecting challenge books, reading them to the class and entering them into your child’s challenge list. Reading tip: Share reading the story with your child. You may like to read one page each or read the same book to each other. Congratulations to these students who have met the challenge this week.
