Office Talk
This week...
This column unashamedly pumps
up football and netball rivalries
and we can happily do this safe
in the knowledge that our clubs,
members and players will treat the
games for what they are and then
share the camaraderie of our sports
with a chat and a drink after the final siren.
When there is a significant event in our league most,
if not all, acknowledge it whether it involves their
club or not. This weekend will see such an event and
we encourage all to celebrate the 400th senior game
of MPNFL legend Guy Stringer.
Guy’s first game was as a teenager with Sorrento in
1989 and he has since achieved many milestones
highlighted by seven premierships, four best and
fairest awards and a decorated representative career
that saw him achieve All Australian selection in 2002.
He has played with four MPNFL clubs and also spent
two seasons at Frankston Dolphins during a career
that is unlikely to be surpassed in our competition.
Guy has always been a passionate supporter of
MPNFL football and we as a sporting community,
wish to congratulate him and wish him well in his
milestone game.
Last weekend provided us with some relief in relation
to rain and wind and also allowed players some relief
in relation to slipping and sliding around the field.
Pleasingly ground conditions have improved vastly at
most league venues which is a credit to our clubs,
their council partners and the increased vigilance of
officials to ensure that our sports are played in a safe
environment.
If any clubs anticipate that there will be any issues
with providing a safe environment in adverse
conditions then this office needs to know before
there is any fallout. Improving our on and off-field
standards is now, and will continue to be, a priority
across our competitions in an effort to attract an even
bigger participation base in years to come.
Many clubs, maybe most, now video games at their
venues for coaching purposes as well as a chance to
look back, celebrate, laugh or maybe commiserate
after the on-field action has finished. This is to be
encouraged but it is also very important that privacy
and harassment rules are respected.
Mobile phones are being used more and more to
record events and snapshots of games and crowd
behavior. This is not something that can be easily
policed but we, as a league, would hope that
incidents such as the one earlier this year that
involved inciting Hawthorn coach Alistair Clarkson
and then recording his reaction, would not be
commonplace in our league.
Video recording of matches is acceptable and quite
legal because they are performed in a public area,
however we suggest that clubs communicate to
each that this is going to be done. If there are any
issues such as underage players being pictured or
legal orders in place, then that information can be
passed on so both clubs area aware.
Also, if there are any real highlights, we would love
to see them and maybe use them to promote our
wonderful competitions.
We wish to advise to the MPNFL community that
the MPNFL CEO position was made redundant this
week. This decision was not taken lightly, however
given the current limitations in the league’s cash
position & forecasting that indicates significant losses
ahead, AFL South East Commission has been left
with no other option other than to act decisively.
Jeff Jones had been in the role of CEO just over 3
years and we would like to thank Jeff for his time and
commitment to the league; first as an accomplished
umpire and committee member with the SUA and
following on from that the league CEO. If anyone
has any questions or queries regarding these matters
please contact Jeremy Bourke at the MPNFL office.

AFL Vic Country
Country kids to dominate Daft
Young country Victorian footballers appear set to
dominate this year’s NAB AFL Draft after the recent
NAB U18 Championships.
With a squad full of top end talent, Vic Country
stormed to six wins from six matches at the
Championships, claiming he title and showcasing
the skills of a number of promising young stars along
the way.
Seymour’s Josh Schache claimed the Larke Medal
for most valuable player at the Championships and
has firmed as a top three draft pick after a number
dominant displays in the forward half.
Hot on the heels of Schache for the title of Vic
Country’s most talented prospect is Mt Eliza’s Jacob
Weitering, with the key defender impressing
throughout the six-week campaign.
The pair of book ends were crucial to Vic Country
remaining undefeated but, according to Vic Country
High Performance Manager Leon Harris, were just
two of a number potential first round draft picks in
the squad.
Darcy Parish (Winchelsea), Rhys Mathieson (Bell
Park), Darcy Tucker (Horsham Saints), Tom Cole
(Strathfieldsaye) and Kieran Collins (Langwarrin) all
enhanced their reputations, while there are still high
hopes for injured pair Charlie Curnow (Torquay) and
Sam Skinner (Moe).
Add to that list a couple of father/son prospects in
Josh Dunkley (Sale) and Bailey Rice (Beaconsfield)
and the number of Vic Country players tipped to
be drafted at season’s end could venture well into
double figures.
“As a collective group, I don’t think we’ve seen a Vic
Country team like this ever before,” Harris said.
“To see so many of the guys seize their opportunity
and play at their best at the Championships was
really pleasing and the culmination of a lot of hard
work over the past few years.”
Along with coach Paul Henriksen, a large contingent
of the U18 Squad were also part of Vic Country side
that won at the U16 Championships two years ago,
a fact Harris said illustrated the strength of the talent
pathway in country Victoria.
“Brigning kids together from across country Victoria
and moulding them into a cohesive unit is a difficult
task and their performance is a reflection of the high
quality coaching and support staff we have in place
to help these young men in their development,”
Harris said.
“But it is also testament to their willingness to commit
to the hard work needed and also the support
provided by their parents.”
In another sign of the strength of Vic Country’s talent
pathway, the 2015 U16 Squad has recently returned
from the NAB U16 Championships on the Gold Coast
with the national title.
Vic Country again finished undefeated at the
Championships and showcased more exciting talent
coming through the ranks.
AFL Victoria would like to thank Dairy Australia and
their Legendairy campaign for their support of the
Vic Country talent program.

REDLEGS HAVE FIREPOWER
By Simon McEvoy
IF Justin Van Unen doesn’t get you, Scott Lockwood
will.
Between the two MT ELIZA star forwards, they have
kicked 100 goals this season to propel the Redlegs
(10-2) to the top of the ladder.
Lockwood fired off nine goals last week and today
looms as a big headache for SEAFORD’S backline.
The Tigers played some dynamic footy last week to
thrash Chelsea but haven’t been able to match it
with the top teams this season. Last week Seaford ran
hard in waves, flicked handballs around and sliced
the game open with its speed on the outside. Josh
Stokes, Aaron Walton, Matt Herbert, Dean Kemble,
Nick Braund and Kieran Shaw were terrific. More of
that today could see the Tigers take it right up to the
Redlegs.
KARINGAL can’t take a trick. The undermanned Bulls
are battling, but it seems every side they come across
is in red-hot form. It’s the case again today when they
host EDI-ASP, on a three-game tear and coming off
their highest score of the season. The Eagles drilled
24 goals last week to thrash top-three contender
Pines. Ominously for rival sides, Edi-Asp looks to be
growing in strength under master coach Graeme
Yeats with their power-packed forward line of Garth,
Meehan, Tagg and Tripcony showing the way. EdiAsp is an outside chance to snatch a top-three spot
so the Eagles will be keen to boost their percentage
today.
A top-three spot and all the advantages that come
with it could be on the line when PINES and
MORNINGTON square off at Madsen Reserve.
Pines have emerged as a genuine contender this
season but their four-game winning streak was
halted last week and, still having to play Frankston
YCW and Mt Eliza, the Pythons can’t afford to drop
this one.
Third-placed Mornington sit half-a-game ahead of
Pines and the Bulldogs’ percentage is much better
than the Pythons’. Win this and Mornington will be
looking good. Dale Nolan made a stunning return
6
from injury last week, booting seven goals.
LANGWARRIN scored a rousing win last week to keep
its finals hopes alive and now the Kangaroos face the
ultimate test – a rampaging FRANKSTON YCW.
Langy have a handy record against the Stonecats but
YC is in rare form and it’s hard to see any side stopping
them at the moment. YC have kicked 51 goals in their
past two games and they don’t have a player out of
form. Scott MacLeod, Ben Buckley, Brenton Credlin
and David Bodley have been outstanding.
Langwarrin has been plagued by narrow losses
this season and, faced with another last week, the
Kangaroos rallied for a gallant win over Bonbeach.
If they could pull this off, it would be a one to
remember.
A three-game losing streak has taken the sting out of
BONBEACH’S push for finals and today the Sharks will
look for a return to form when they host CHELSEA in
a local derby.
Back in round 4, Bonbeach scored a stirring 31-point
win over Chelsea – fuelled by a fierce tackling display.
The Sharks had 86 tackles, including 20 in the first
quarter, to set the tone and defuse Chelsea which
had Stephen Milne in its side. Today, Bonny coach
Steve Hughes will be demanding a similar effort from
his players. Chelsea was disappointing last week and
needs to improve.

REDLEGS SET PACE
IN THE RESERVES…
The sky is the limit as the MT ELIZA juggernaut rolls
on. The Redlegs (11-1) are a game clear on top of the
ladder and back-to-back flags are a distinct possibility.
Today they face third-placed SEAFORD in what
should be a good test. The Tigers are on a threegame winning streak.
LANGWARRIN’S late bid for a finals berth continues
when it hosts second-placed FRANKSTON YCW.
Langy have won three of their past four games,
fuelled by Nathan Whyte, Andy Johnson and Nick
Bradley.
PINES and MORNINGTON square off in the match of
the round, with fifth spot up for grabs. The Pythons
are coming hard – they’ve won three on the spin –
while Bulldogs, fifth, desperately need to find form
after losing their past two.
BONBEACH meets a talented CHELSEA side that has
its sights set on a top-three spot.
KARINGAL and EDI-ASP will be chasing a second win.
MUST-WIN FOR BULLS
IN THE UNDER 19s…
KARINGAL is clinging on to fifth spot and face a
must-win scenario against EDI-ASP. The Bulls have
dropped four of their past five games – but with a
bit more poise they can put their season back on
track. The Eagles have their tails up and the likes of
Joel Martello, Josh Steen and Zak Bailey have been
in cracking form.
CHELSEA’S quest for as top-three spot will continue
when it faces BONBEACH. The Seagulls have some
serious talent with the likes of Dan Knowles, Cieran
Doherty and Ben Joss in sharp form.
MORNINGTON has taken it up to some highly rated
sides in recent weeks and should be able to get the
points against PINES.
MT ELIZA, with Nick McKinnon, Antony Cleary and
Zach Campbell in form, tackles SEAFORD.
LANGWARRIN is pressing for a top-five spot and
will relish the challenge of taking on top team
FRANKSTON YCW. Langy pushed the Stonecats
earlier in the season.

Club Notes
Chelsea Seagulls
Hi to all, last week we laced up against Seaford away
from home. The weather god,s were blessing us with
a sunny winters day & that’s exactly what our 19’s
thought when they came firing kicking 4 goal’s to a
solitary 1 point in the first. The opposition mounted a
comeback kicking 3 goals to 1 in the 2nd. The defence
were strong in the third bouncing back many advances
great play by all players in the third to kick 4 goals to 2.
Play was interrupted by an umpire going down at the
end of the third he was treated by our resident paramedic
Dave many thanks to him for his professionalism, we
are lucky to have him at our club. Our thoughts are
with the young man & wish him a speedy recovery. The
boy’s came out victor’s by 33 points.
Stevey’s men looked like they were going repeat the
game before kicking 2.1 In the first 5 mins only to
stop & let our opponents back in with 2 of their own.
Unfortunately after that the wheels fell off only to add
another point for the remainder of the game & that’s
what happens when players don’t train.
The seniors were jumped by an energetic seaford
side with a hunger for the ball. They kicked 7 goals to
an inaccurate 2.7 in the first & set the mode for the
remainder of the day we had some young guns in our
best Toddy G, Silva, & Liam Charity kicking a goal in his
debut game. A lot of injuries are making it hard but.
Keep your heads up boys & be ready for a hard contest
against local rival’s Bonbeach
GO GULLS
Mt Eliza Red Legs
Welcome to the Seaford FNC today.
Last Sunday we took on the Doggies & came away with
3 fantastic wins.
The U/19’s, without a bench stood up well to record a
great 17 point win after trailing narrowly at 1/2 time.
Dane Brattle kicked 3 & Ristrom 2 with better players
being Nick McK, Clears, Zac, Richo & Nugget.
After leading by 4 goals at 1/4 time the Reserves
dropped off in the 2nd to only lead by a point at 1/2
time. We got our game going again in the 2nd half
booting 8 goals to 3 to win well in the finish. Strick
booted 4 & Trent & Lefty 2 each. Better players were
Titch, Pookie, Lyndy & Tim Campelj.
The Seniors retained the “Bern Vosti Shield” with a 7
goal win. A 6 goal to 1 opening term set up the game.
Scotty Lockwood with 9 was back to his best. Matt Lillie
in his 50th consecutive game was great, along with
Barto, Brodes, Jimmy C and debutant Rob Turnbull.

Last week, in perfect weather conditions, we hosted the
Bulls and won the 3 footy games. Murph’s Men started
the day against a fellow finals aspirant. Showing great
fight the boys came from behind at half time to amass
a nine goal second half and win. Jake Lovett, Lucas Lee
and Jack B had plenty of the aggot whilst Luke Paynter
(6) and Greeny (2) provided the conversions. Stricko’s
Stars provided a much needed percentage boost
with a nice win. They welcomed The Wiz who was
in everything including 4 goals. Jem Thorne and Rob
Evans went well and Big Josh provided first use of the
footy. After a scratchy first half, Mather’s Marvels kicked
into gear after half time and won comfortably. BJ, Bucks
and Scooter were outstanding. Jack M stood tall whist
100 gamer Bods (7) and Bruhny (5) provided targets.
Mixed results for the Kittens (you can’t whitewash every
week) - read about it elsewhere.
Off to Lloyd Park today to take on Langy for the
Bendigo Bank Challenge where the Numero’s will aim
to revenge a loss we incurred back in Round 4. Should
be three ripper games of footy and the Netties look
close affairs as well.
A great night was had last week at the Mark Andrew

Edithvale - Aspendale Eagles
This week we travel to Karingal, with all sides looking to
continue our momentum from last week’s home fixture
against Pines. A huge day in the netball and we wish
the Eagles all the best!
Last week the U19’s played good four quarter footy
to come away with the points. Pleasing to see the
goals shared around with 11 individual goal kickers. J
Martello, Steen, Bailey and Davey amongst the best in
an even team effort. The 2’s have been on the improve
and were fantastic against a side looking for finals
action. It was tight all day and the boys never gave in,
eventually going down by 11 but finishing with a wet
sail. Miller, Stewart and Walker were the standouts in a
great team effort.
The senior game promised plenty and delivered!
Against the 3rd placed team the Eagles were on fire
from the outset, with the tall timber dominant. Like the
good side they are, Pines kept coming, but the boys
played outstanding football to get the win, and kicked
straight to notch 24.11 for the day. Again goals were
spread with 10 goal kickers and the dangerous duo of
Meehan (6) and Garth (4) unstoppable up front, with
their small forward counterparts Taggy and Tripper
kicking 3 each. Garth, Meehan, Mullins, O’Hanlon,
Pawel and Warke were best.

Pines Pythons
Back at ‘The Pit’ this week we extend our welcome to
Bulldogs of Mornington. The return home is timely,
our seniors coming home licking wounds after a
disappointing, ladder shaping loss at Edithvale last
week. The positives are scarce, though the performance
of young recruit Corey Ash was very encouraging, in
what has been a string of quality outings for the under
19’s league representative. The highlights were a lot
more visible for the reserves who carved out a gritty win
and continue to stake a claim for a finals berth. Fleet
footed speedster with the most fun name to say, Jean
Bezzene continued his good form, captain courageous
Razor Guganovic again led by example and big Gordo
Hendry showed why he is still a force, kicking 3 telling
goals. Making mention of valuable people to wear
the mighty pines jumper, one of the best, Joel Brunn,
played his 200th club game last week, a great effort by
a top bloke who continues to prove his worth and has
plenty more left in tank.
Today’s clashes will be played with a finals like
atmosphere, with the ones battling Mornington for
third spot and the reserves combatants fighting for 5th
spot on the table. The under 19’s have played good
quarters and good halves throughout the year, edging
closer to a maiden victory. The win is coming and today
is as good a day as any as the Pines boys of all grades
step out with all intentions of making a clean sweep.
Go Pythons.
Seaford Tigers
10K DRAW TONIGHT AT THE CLUBROOMS.
Last week we hosted Chelsea, in what turned out to
be a pretty successful day for the club. The 19s kicked
off the dew in a crucial clash for our finals chances.
Unfortunately the boys got off to a tardy start, trailing
by 4 goals at the first break, and never really recovered,
going down by 33 points. Lachie Mullen was best
afield, and was well supported by Mackenzie Morris,
Dylbert, Harley Cook and Bailey Watkins. Its crunch time
now and crucial we start winning some games.
It was 5th v 3rd in the magoos in what was also a
pivotal clash. The guys started slowly, trailing by 2 goals
10 mins in to the 1st quarter but kept them to just one
behind for the rest of the match as we put them to the
sword, winning by 64 points. J Mil was great in the
ruck again, Goose and Riz gave run from the backline,
Chadwick kicked 5, whilst Shorty and Pete A were solid
in the midfield.
The Seniors got off to a flying start, racing away to a 5
goal lead at quarter time. We never looked back from
there, winning by 9 goals and moving up to 8th on
the ladder with our 2nd win in 3 games! Azza Walton
starred up forward with 6 goals, co skipper Josh Stokes
was inspirational down back along with Dean Kemble,
Kizza Shaw competed well all day at CHF, whilst young
guns Matty Herbert and Nick Braund continued their
white hot streak. Big game today with the opportunity
to start causing headaches for a few side on the run
home.

Langwarrin Kangaroos
Great for the club to get back in the winners circle with
all grades of football and netball getting the points
against Bonbeach last week. The seniors managed
to hang on by 7 points and with a few injuries it was
pleasing to see even though having a few blokes go
down we were able to get the job done. Great to see
Mitch Cuthbert have an impact on debut and Joel
Bateman again have another taste of senior footy
and contribute well. The reserves had a comfortable
win with Whyte, Andy Johnson and Bradles our best.
Craige’s boys also had a big win. Thanks to all the 2005
Premiership players turning up to watch the game and
reminisce back at the club last week for the ten year
reunion. Great to see nearly all of the players, committee
and officials from that wonderful season upstairs. It was
a great function and big thanks to Gav for organising
the night with special comments, video talkback and
highlights that everyone thoroughly enjoyed.

Mornington Bulldogs
Perfect conditions at the Kennel for our return clash
with arch rival Mt.Eliza. Off field the club won with a
huge crowd, Auskickers everywhere, food and drinks
devoured and club legend Simon Goosey returning
to the Kennel to unveil the new electronic “Simon
Goosey” scoreboard. On field not so good with not
one win but we regroup, train hard and bring it all
today against Pines. Under 19’s started the day against
a second placed Mt Eliza who knew they were in for a
game, with the Doggies coming at them with plenty of
energy. Mt Eliza started well but not to be outdone, the
Doggies fought back well in the second and led at half
time. The game became an arm wrestle with Mt Eliza
putting their nose in front by 3 points at the last break
& in the last kicked a few more to win the game. The
12
Reserves was a similar game with a slow start with Mt
Eliza kicking 5 goals but after 1/4 time the boys started
to play their style of footy & fought back to be 1 point
down. In the second half Mt Eliza were to slick and
quick and the boys just couldn’t get back in game &
went down by 31 points. Seniors were disappointing,
Mt.Eliza burst out of the blocks to totally dominate us all
over the ground. The boys fought hard in second, our
midfield started to win some ball and give our forwards
an opportunity to kick a few goals, getting the margin
to a couple of goals at one stage but that was a close as
it got all day with 42 point loss in the end. Motto of the
day was slow starts kill us!
Bonbeach Sharks
The U19s focus over the break was attitude towards
training and preparation. Saturday’s game showed
our supporters that we are prepared to work hard for
each other, but the polish comes from training. Huge
game against our rivals today, come out with the same
positive attitude and a good result is there for the
taking. The reserve boys battled hard last week against
a well drilled Langwarrin. Campo, big lace and little
cocky led the way! A big chance to get a few wins in
the next month off footy if we can get more boys on
the training track! Work hard and stick together the rest
will take care of itself. Also to any single ladies at the
ladies day today JJ is always looking for a date! Seniors
were unable to make the most of their opportunities
and went down by a small margin to Langwarrin.
Hopefully today we can turn it around against Chelsea.
Enjoy the ladies day and go Sharks.

Frankston v Collingwood
A spirited Frankston side have gone down by 41
points against Collingwood in a tough match at
Frankston Park – Dale Fenney Reports
It was a much better week for Frankston who
without doubt showed fight and determination for
a win. After a 7 goal to 3 first term Frankston were
never able to wrestle back the lead but the second
half opened up with more opportunities for the
home side.
The Magpies opened the match up with the first
4 goals of the game through Ash Close 2, Scott
Greenough and Matthew Goodyear. Ben Cavarra
then steadied the ship for Frankston with a set shot
goal. Ash Close kicked his third goal for the term
shortly after. Two more goals from both teams saw
Collingwood go into quarter time with a 28 point
lead.
It wasn’t long in the second term before the first
goal with Jack Blair kicking a goal within the first
minute for the visitors. Sam Fox quickly replied for
Frankston with a goal of his own. The game was
getting beyond Frankston with the Pies kicking the
next three goals before Josh Pickess put a stop to
the run with a goal for Frankston. Jack Hellier kicked
a late goal for Collingwood to give them a 47 point
half time lead.
The third term started off much like the second with
a quick goal in the first minute to Collingwood.
Frankston were then able to get a run on with 3
straight goals through Josh Pickess, Jason Pongracic
and Shane Hockey. Callum Matheson stopped the
run with a goal for the Pies before Brayden Irving
put a goal through to reduce the lead. Late goals
to both teams with Josh Newman taking a set shot
goal. Collingwood were leading at three quarter time
by 35 points.
Darcy Moore pounced on an opportunity early with
a goal for Collingwood. Frankston produced another
three goal stint with Sam Fox, Nathan Gardiner and
Kalem Post all scoring great goals. The margin was
brought right back to 29 points before two late goals
for Collingwood saw them take out the win by 41
points.
Next week Frankston take the long away trip to
Ballarat to take on the Roosters next Saturday. The
Development League team plays next Sunday at
home against Sandringham whilst the Seniors travel
to take on North Ballarat at Eureka Stadium.

Guy Stringer - 400
Simply a good Guy
Only those very new or very uneducated to the MPNFL would be unaware of the name Guy Stringer.
This weekend Guy, 42, will play his 400th senior game of football when Sorrento takes the field
against Tyabb at the Yabbie pond.
His on-field history reads like an almanac of how to
succeed and his longevity in a sport that has, arguably, more physical requirements and stresses than
any other is an amazing feat.
For the record he has played with four MPNFL clubs
– Sorrento 233 games and six premierships, Pines 66
games and one flag, Hastings 55 games and Edithvale-Aspendale 46 games.
Along the way he has won four club best and fairest
awards, a VCFL Medal for best afield in a grand final,
an ANZAC Day Medal and booted 369 goals.
Guy has always been a laid back and friendly character off the field, and puts his resilience down to that
life skill combined with luck and a determination to
succeed.
“I never burned myself out over pre-season it’s fair
to say. I just looked after myself and I’ve been pretty
lucky with injuries. Mentally I have always still wanted to keep going,” he said.
“Football’s always been a great outlet for me and
now I’m getting older I enjoy the challenge of playing against kids half my age.”
On that point Guy said he copped a bit of ribbing
from both younger and old members given his career
has spanned two generations and he is now playing
with the sons of some his ex-team mates.
“I suppose it brings it home when I won the b&f the
year Leigh Poholke was born and won it again the
year he played his first senior game,” he chuckled.
His representative football journey is just as impressive having played 21 games for the MPNFL Sharks
and four games for the VCFL Victorian team in 2002
where he earned a place in the All Australian team
for that year.
When asked who he rated as the best he had played
with and against, Guy harked back to the interleague
teams of the late ‘90s and early 2000s.
“There were some really good players and none were
better than the other at interleague level so we had
some great teams during those years,” he said.
“(Brendan) Long from YCW and Paul Williams from
Pines were standouts. At Sorrento there was Grant
Johnson, Claude Sampieri and (Damien) Clarke at
Edi-Asp and of course the Goose (Simon Goosey) and
I had some great battles. Tim Allen might have been
the best of them all, but you could just keep going.”
“I love running into players I used to play against and
with and having a laugh about it and that happens
all the time.”
While many coaches and mentors have come and
gone throughout his career, Guy named three people who he said influenced him the most over the
journey.
“I would say dad (Keith) would be up there, and
when I first started, Andrew Callaghan and Brad Phillips were my first senior coaches (at Sorrento) and
they nurtured me well. They looked after me on the
field and taught me how to prepare and go about
my football by example,” he said.
Guy says he has no regrets and has enjoyed everything about his time playing and is content with his
lot in a game he loves.
“Maybe I could have gone up and played for the
big country leagues like the O&M but we ended up
beating them (in interleague) so we were playing a
pretty good standard here and I never really wanted
to leave.”
”I love my country football and always have,” he declared.
“I won’t coach. My young bloke is nine now and
starting out so I’ll just enjoy following him and put
some time back in to the family. If I had finished early
I might have considered coaching but, playing this
long, I’m not looking for anything else now.”

VSHL SUA Record Write Up
We are a close knit group at the SUA. As umpires we
understand we have a very important job to do, at
the same time we enjoy the social aspect that umpiring and the community offers. The SUA has many
umpires that have been running for years, and they
keep coming back because they enjoy it. The SUA has
around 350 running members this year, which provides field, boundary and goal umpires for matches
within the MPFL, MPJFL and SEFNL.
With the season half way through, you can bet
many umpires will be upping the tempo to secure
one of those best seats in the house, running on the
ground on Grand Final Day and maybe officiating
in their first Grand Final, could you see yourself in
this role. We are always looking for new umpires to
take up the challenge this year and going forward.
Anyone interested in umpiring are welcome to join
us at one of our training venues and register, we

Netball Preview
Edi Asp v Karingal
Top of the table clash! Can the
Eagles redeem themselves from
their four losses to the Bulls in
round 4 2015? The Bulls sit comfortable on top
undefeated. Edi Asp comfortably disposed of Pines
last week while the Bulls came up against a spirited
YCW coming away with a comfortable 20 goal
win. These teams are both certain to meet in finals
and if Edi take the victory it will certainly give them
confidence leading into their finals series.
Langwarrin v YCW
The Roos girls welcome the Stonekittens to Lloyd
Park in what will be some hard fought netball. Langy
came away with four wins again Bonbeach last week
and YCW went down convincingly to the Bulls. With
both teams adapted to the outdoor courts, last time
they met in round 4, YCW came away with a ten
goal victory.
Bonbeach v Chelsea
After suffering four losses last week to Langwarrin,
the Sharks will be looking for redemption against
the Seagals. Don’t expect a walkover though with
the Chelsea girls hungry for a win after a big loss to
Seaford last week. With the neighbours meeting a
Shark Park this week, it is a battle of 8th V 9th
Mt Eliza v Seaford
Mt Eliza are looking very sharp handing Mornington
a 38 goal loss last week. Seaford are also coming off
an impressive win against Chelsea. This match is 3rd
V 5th. Last time they met at Linen House, Seaford
were victorious by three goals. Can Mt Eliza take the
points or will the Tigers keep their finals hopes alive?
Pines v Mornington
The Pythons ladies have done some recruiting
and look a lot stronger than round 1 this year and
the Doggies are also much improved however
inconsistent. Mornington’s A grade get the rest this
week with their B & C sides travelling to Linen House.
Last time round Pines took the points in B grade, can
the Doggies turn the tables this time around?

This week we welcome Chelsea to our court where
we hope to get some much needed wins on the
board. Last week wasn’t a great day in terms of
results but we had some good players none the less
throughout the day. Jess S, Nirelle, Denae, Caity,
Kirsty, Sarah, Allison, Jess G, Emma, Alana, Bec & Kate
were some of many notables.
This week we should also pay tribute to Steph
Matthews who played a fantastic game in the centre
for C Grade last week. But more importantly Steph
has taken on the responsible role of Treasurer for the
last three years and has done a fantastic job keeping
all our finances in order. Thanks again Steph. !
This week is ladies day upstairs. Apologies for not
being able to change times to suit. Its just impossible !
Have a great day girls
Go Sharks - Granma Dee
Chelsea Seagulls
Unfortunately it took a good half for the A girls to
settle this week, but once we, did we played some
good flowing netball and finished off a solid effort.
Adele and Tess were standouts in defence and Lisa
along with Hayley C played a great working team in
goals together.
Awesome effort by all B ladies on court and so nice to
have another win especially with such a close game!
An amazing game from Kate in GS who was strong
and confident all game! Our defensive pressure was
great from all on court. A big thanks to Sal and Steph
for stepping up and playing so well.
Such a great game to watch by the C girls this week.
All played well and even though the win was with
a grasp a draw seems fitting for the result. Great
defence from all 3 girls in the back line, Ally, Steph
and Brigitte all work well together. Em and Maddy
great use of the ball through the center and around
our attacking circle. Over all a wonderful fought
game.
Great win on the weekend to D team! We gave 110%
and kept going till the very last second. Stand out
game for Lauren with awesome moving around
the circle and shooting. A special mention to Daele
for stepping out her shooting role and helping in
defence, great job. An amazing effort from all.

Heading out into the Arctic Vortex in the very early
hours of Saturday morning, the Pythons took on the
Eagles on their home turf. The court was wet and
slippery, the air biting at any exposed skin - but still
we pushed on. We knew we had a big task ahead
of us, and sensibly the girls were cautious on the wet
and slippery courts... but didn’t suit our preferred
style of play. Defence were put under pressure from
the start, still - we saw improvements across the team
from our last game against the Eagles. Happy with
that, we know we’re heading in the right direction.
Edi Asp got the jump on B Grade early, and we
faced a very strong line up. The home team also
used the court conditions much better than us, but
to everyone’s credit - there was no giving up. Even
if Ky did do the splits on more than one occasion.
With a few injuries, it just wasn’t our day. Best on’s
to Kaz in C Grade and Steph in B Grade. Bring on
the games against Mornington, and celebrating
National Netball Day with our Pines Ladies High Tea
afterwards. Exciting times ahead! GO PYTHONS

Mornington Bulldogs
A beautiful fresh Sunday saw arch rivals going head to
head. Well done to all the supporters that came over
from the footy. Doggie D’s were a much improved
team and with Brooke in defence we had most of the
play. But as Jonathan Brown says “Bad Kicking is Bad
Football” and as Sue Kimber says “Bad Passing is Bad
Netball”. This is an aspect that we need to work on
as a Club. All the fitness in the world doesn’t help if
your decision making and passing is off.
Unfortunately C’s had the same issues. Whilst Katie
and Melissa worked hard in the mid court we couldn’t
finish off with goals. Beth did well when moved to
defence but Mounties were too experienced.
A depleted B grade gave opportunities to girls to
move up a grade and Erica, Maddee and Naomi gave
it their best shot. With nothing to lose a complete
swap around of positions in the last gave the Red
Legs something to think about and bazaarly it was
our best quarter. Well done Suz and her team.
A’s were also under the pump from the outset.
Congrats to Eliza for promotion to A however her
task against the A grade leading goaler was a huge
challenge. Court play appeared well matched but the
Mounties attack was unstoppable. Mind you Georgia
@ WD gave it a fair shakeup.
A well earned rest for A’s next week and a chance
for our injuries to heal as we head back to our
happy hunting ground at Linen House to meet The
Pythonettes.

The Ladies Luncheon Sponsors Round.
Thank you to Jen, Nic, Mark, Lara, Gail, Pete, Ted,
Wendy, Em & Megan who sourced the fantastic raffle
prizes for our Ladies Luncheon.
Donations from Bev Marks, Peter Alexander, Swiss
Bakeries, The Lobster Cave, Cotton On & Caprice
ensured that this years prizes were by far better than
any other year!
Thanks also to our brilliant Master of Ceremonies, Al
Glanville - who is simply the best!
A great day was enjoyed by all & thank you to
everyone who helped, especially the Pines girls, who
changed our game times so that we could run our
major fund raiser.
We started our games early on Saturday morning &
though the skies were clear, it was bloody freezing!
After two high standard games, the girls were happy
to head off to our luncheon as we were fortunate to
bring home two from two!
This week we play the ‘Million Dollar Bulls’ at
Karingal & once again we’re looking forward to
playing against some of the best players in the State.
Hopefully, we will be able to take it right up to the
top dogs & improve on the outcomes of our last
meeting. All Eagle Supporters should come across
to the McClelland College Indoor courts, 31 Belar
Avenue, Frankston to see some top class netball
action!
Best of luck to Demi W who is playing in the finals of
the ANL this weekend & a big CONGRATULATIONS
to Sammy & Will, whose first child is due in January

Good luck to all Eagle teams playing this weekend!

Langwarrin Kangaroos
All right, all right, all right....sorry Magic Mike is on my
mind!
7 is a very lucky number in Chinese culture, it
symbolises togetherness and we proved this as all 7
Langy teams were victorious over Bonbeach. The
courts were slippery but we had our hairspray packed.
It helped a little but man it was as slippery as a Wonton
being picked up by chopsticks in a Chinese soup.
D grade took to the indoor courts with a strong defense
and precision feeding into the circle the opposition
cracked like a fortune cookie. Winning felt better than
a Chinese massage.
C grade defense were like ying and yang. One short,
one tall but perfect together. Both teams battling out
for top four positions. Finals are just around the corner
and this 21 goal win helps move us closer.
B grade’s first quarter was tight. The goalers copped
some trash talk from the sidelines but they piped right
down when the goals were dropping from downtown
Chinatown. A 21 goal quarter in the second and a 17
goal last quarter sealed the deal.
A grade come out like fire crackers on Chinese New
Years. But so did the Bonbeach girls. After a spray from
the coach at quarter time the girls refocused and took
the game by the dragon teeth and a win was theirs.
Missing 4 key players to the team everyone stood up
and proved the Langy A grade team is strong like the
Great Wall.
This week up against YCW it’s battle stations. Wins in
all all four very much needed for finals to be reached.
It’s gonna be a big day.
whether it be over a chip or a netball match and fight
they did! A few lessons to take away from round 12
at Tiger land: 1. Set multiple alarms to ensure you
and the three team members you drive to the game
each week are ready to play when the whistle blows.
2. Don’t underestimate a pack of seagulls in a line up
with some large jungle cats because they will come
through and peck your eyes out and take a victory in
great style.3. We are capable to get through a round
without any injuries (thank the netball lords) Special
mention to the Sloan family in this tragic time. The
netballers all wore a black arm band close to their
hearts to show our support flows through the whole
of the Tiger land family. We send our best wishes and
we were all thinking of you in your time of grieve.
Lets take a good week of netball filled with high
spirits into the next round and lets hope we get 4
from 4! Signing out from the Tiger land.
Seaford Tigers
Although you would think a bunch of tigers would
destroy a pack of seagulls this was not the case in
these match ups! All 4 games were extremely close
and each game had 1 to 2 point differences we
manage to get 2 wins out of the 4 with the A girls
having a victory of over 40 goals and the C grade
girls drawing at 27 to 27. Each match was fought out
till the end and no fuel was left in the tank when the
end whistle blew. Our B graders lost by a devastating
1 point and D grade coming in 2nd with a 7 point
loss. Seagulls are renowned to not give up a fight

Our second Sunday game for the season saw a bit of
a shake up with a few players being unavailable. D
grade started the day in style. Although we missed
our goaler, We knew our mantra and were able to
execute plays practiced at training with a calmness
that suggested we’d all been doing it for years, great
win ladies! C grade were determined from the
moment the first whistle was blown. Defense was
tight and rebounding strong, the midcourts timing
was impeccable and the goaling accurate, both
goalers reading well off each other. A great display of
team work and discipline. Well done! B grade
Great effort from everyone resulted in a healthy win.
It was good to be able to try various combinations
showing flexibility within the team. Fantastic effort
.A grade
It was a lovely day for outdoor netball. It was good to
see the things we practiced at training in our game
play. Everyone focused on the match for the entire
four quarters which resulted in a convincing win.
Well done all.
Karingal Bullettes
We played YCW last week. It was very slippery & we
struggled to adapt to in the first half of the D grade.
We started to find our mojo once we slowed down.
Great to finally get on top of YCW with a 9 goal win
by the final siren. Best players were Bec & Kez. C
grade had a very tough match coming out with a
draw last time we met. We didn’t expect anything else
but a tough game. Once again the court was still wet
with a few players slipping over. We didn’t play our
best, however, the team settled more in the second
half coming away another draw. Best players were
Renae, Sara B and Mel. B grade started off very slow
with a late withdrawal of Nadine which put us out of
whack down our goaling end. We were at one stage
13 goals down coming back to be within 2 goals and
a real chance. It proves how good we can be when
we play our brand of netball. We went down by 4
goals but it could have easily gone our way with lots
of positives to come out of this game. Best players
Renee B, Rach & Brooke. A Grade with almost a full
strength side started off pretty well and it was quite a
physical game. The team were definitely challenged
today and did well to come away with a comfortable
20 goal win. We knew the second half of the season
would be challenging as teams would be after us.
We are now the hunted! Looking forward to another
challenge today against Edi Asp who are premiers in
each grade.

The girls took our rivalry with Karingal to heart & all
came out firing. D blazed ahead in the 1st Q taking
Karingal by surprise both on the court & the scoreboard
but unfortunately couldn’t hold on to it, coming away
with a 9pt loss. Mooka played great through the
centre court, & Bree pulling in heaps of intercepts.
The C girls worked harder than they ever have &
played an outst&ing game right from the start. Some
team mistakes in the last 5mins meant Karingal could
catch up & unfortunately they finished with another
draw. Hands over everything & backing her team up,
TbagSwag epitomised the team goals for the day &
smashed it. Elyse playing another great shooting game
under pressure. Our champions of the day the B girls
killed it from the start, through the middle & finished
off killing it! These B girls played like we’ve never seen
them play & in the end they took the 4 points off an
undefeated side, well done! BOG went to captain Lea
who played a totally accountable game, mentions to
KBeal for her great game & following coach’s orders
to the tee. Really great game from our A graders too
- no win but halving our loss margin from last time
showing were moving in the right direction. Amazing
defensive game again from Tilly, playing great on 2
very tall shooters. Offensive intercepts from Indi who
never dropped her intensity. Well done Kittens, next
time we see Karingal it will be in finals & let’s make sure
we hold nothing back! This week brings us Langy @

Where would your club
be without you?
They’re players, coaches, committee members, volunteers and supporters. And every week,
their club relies on the contribution of every one of them. But they’re also farmers, tradesmen,
office workers, truck drivers and much more as well. And doing those jobs safely, in safe
working environments, is vital. To the workers, their families – and to their footy club.
PROUD SPONSOR OF COUNTRY FOOTY FOR OVER 10 YEARS.
