Dear Residents and Friends of Reeves Park:
On behalf of the Sound Park Heights, Inc. board, I want to welcome all of you to the
Summer of 2015! This promises to be an eventful time as we prepare for another
beautiful summer season here on the North Fork.
We plan to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the incorporation of Sound Park Heights,
Inc. With that incorporation in 1965, a few forward thinking families purchased the
cliff with beach front to ensure that our community will always have access and use
of their own private beach. Many familes since then have enjoyed the beach, the
whale, pancake and loaf. This community has been built on the family spirit and
continues to this day as 2nd and 3rd generations of families continue to return.
As was mentioned at the 2014 Shareholders meeting, it is this board’s goal to keep this
theme moving throughout the year. Our Annual Beach party will be a throw back to 1965.
A 50th Anniversary Gala, with a special nod to our founders, will be held at Stonewalls
Restaurant and will be much more than just a cocktail party. We are actively seeking
photos and momentos from days gone by to incorporate into the activites planned for this
year. So, if you have something you would like to contribute to this historical review,
please contact any of the board members.
Last year the “Community Awareness Community” of SPH’s attended a Riverhead
“Round Table” symposium in which various civic organizations made suggestions and
requests of town officials to help make our communities a better place. One such
suggestion from the SPH representatives was to repair or replace the lights in the
parking lot. As you may have seen our request is becoming a reality! All of the
walkway lights have been replaced with new LED Colonial post top fixtures and are
now functioning. All of the parking lot fixtures have been repaired and are now
functioning. The parking lot poles were a bit weathered so they are working on
having all five parking lot poles and fixtures replaced.

Additionally, the gazebo that had been badly damaged by weather and time needed
to be addressed as well. After officials of the town of Riverhead examined the
structure, it was determined that it had to be totally rebuilt. By the time you are
reading this, the project should be complete! It was also suggested that the restroom
facilities be renovated and I am happy to report that this is currently under
consideration by the town and funding is being sought. All this will only serve to
beautify our neighborhood and make our community an even better place to enjoy

The front entrance of the park and the cliff/beach property are being well
maintained and cared for thanks to your dues and the efforts of several SPH
volunteer committees. However, we still need your help in keeping our beach as
nice and clean as possible. Be considerate of others who use the beach. We
appreciate you taking your garbage off the beach, but look around and pick up a
little more. Last year we distributed tide table refrigerator magnets with SPH
Beach Etiquette. They were a big hit, so this year, we will update the 2015 tide
table - please keep the original Beach Etiquette magnet as a reminder for your
family and guests.

There's a great deal of activity as far as the real estate in the park is concerned.
Many houses are for sale as well as some new additions to our community. Our
organization only grows stronger with new members, so as you meet your neighbors
please tell them about our group. Get them to buy a share and be active. Anyone
who wants to join the board is welcome to come to any meeting, see the schedule
below. We love having new blood bringing with it new ideas! As you know things
don’t get done without your help.

Cost to be announced will include practice range, BBQ lunch, golf & cart,
refreshments on the course, dinner, open bar, prizes & awards! Contact Bobby or
Jimmy Kelly for more details. Proceeds to benefit the Reeves Park ‘9-11 Park
Project and the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research.
All events, dates and times will be posted on the information boards along Park Rd, as
well as on the website - so keep an eye out for any updates or new events!
Donations Wanted:
We are seeking donations i.e. gift certificates, liquor, picture frames, beach items,
etc. to be put into gift baskets for our auction at this year’s Anniversary Gala. Be
creative in keeping with our anniversary year - and think 1965!
