SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH
NEW CARLISLE, OHIO
From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Parishioners,
I am happy to announce that Archbishop Schnurr has
appointed Father Tom Nevels as our new pastor. He will
also head up our region as pastor of Mary Help of
Christians in Fairborn.
He introduces himself as “Father Tom” and describes
himself as a “well preserved 63-year-old.” Father Tom has
lots of priestly experience. He was ordained 17 years ago
and is currently completing a 12 year assignment as pastor
of Our Lady of Good Hope in Miamisburg.
Father Tom is from Dayton and grew up at Holy Family
Parish. He was trained as an electrical engineer and worked
for many years with all the trades at General Motors.
Father enjoys all sports and said that playing tennis was his
favorite. He wondered if he would be able to store his
fishing boat in the garage as he enjoys going out on the
water to relax and unwind.
Father looks forward to meeting everyone at Sacred Heart
and to working closely with our Spanish-speaking
chaplain, Father Ariel, to care for the pastoral needs all our
parishioners.

Spring Andrew Dinners
Andrew Dinners are an opportunity for men who are high
school sophomores or older to learn more about
discernment and the seminary. They will have dinner with
in a relaxed, "no pressure" atmosphere of discussion and
dialogue about the life of a priest and a priestly vocation
that would normally not be afforded in the parish setting;
they provide the accompanying priests the chance to share
their vocation stories as well as to hear the vocation story
of the (arch)bishop.
In Dayton, the Andrew Dinner will be hosted at St. Peter,
6161 Chambersburg Rd., on Tuesday, April 21. The
evening begins with registration at 5:30 p.m. and will be
finished at about 7:30 p.m. If you are interested in
attending or want more information, please call Fr.
Hummel at 845-31212 or email [email protected].
Good Frida y Collection
A Pont if ical Collect ion
Christians around the world are
united in a special way during Lent,
Holy Week and Easter. Our hearts,
minds and prayers are also
especially aware of the Holy Land.
On Good Friday, we are called to
support Christians in the Holy
Land. Many Christians in the Holy
Land depend on the collection for
their lives. For 800 years, the Holy Land Franciscans have
served in the land made holy by the life, suffering, death
and Resurrection of Jesus. Together, we can support
Christianity in the Holy Land.
For information, visit http://www.myfranciscan.org/ourmission/the-good-friday-collection/. Please be as generous
as your abundance allows.
Come Pray the Patriotic Rosary on April First
Do you think America needs help? Do you wonder what
you can do to help our country? Join us to pray the Patriotic
Rosary on Wednesday, April 1 and 15 at 7:00 p.m. in the
Adoration Chapel. The Patriotic Rosary dedicates one Hail
Mary in the traditional rosary to each state in the United
States and asks God’s protection and guidance for the
nation. Our Lady has promised to intercede for us through
the rosary.
“Going to confession is not like going
to the dry cleaners to have a stain removed.
No! It is going to meet the Father . . .”
—Pope Francis

“By the means of this image,

many graces to souls.”
(341)
“All the divine floodgates
through which graces flow
are opened.” (699)
On Divine Mercy Sunday, an image of The Divine Mercy will be blessed and displayed in the sanctuary as
requested by Jesus. The image represents the Risen Christ bringing Mercy to the whole world. Please take
a moment and, with gratitude and trust in God’s Mercy, remember the mystery of the Passion, Death and
Resurrection of Our Lord while viewing the image. In this way, the image will be venerated as our Lord
asked.
Join the thousands throughout the world who have responded to this message of God’s mercy and have
found hope, healing and answers to many prayers. The Feast of Mercy is a day when we should approach
the Lord with great faith and trust. Don’t be afraid to ask for great things, spiritual as well as temporal.
Rejoice in Our Lord’s unfathomable mercy.
In 2000, after many years of study, Saint Pope John Paul II established the Feast of Divine Mercy and gave
it the name of Divine Mercy Sunday. What is so special about this new Feast of Divine Mercy? It is the
promise of the total forgiveness of all sins and punishment for any soul that goes to Confession and then
receives Jesus in Holy Communion on the Feast of Divine Mercy!
My mercy is so great that no mind, be it of man or of angel,
will be able to fathom it throughout all eternity.” (699)
