SAINT BERNARD
Introduction to the Liturgy of the Word
The Seventh Sunday of Easter
OUR PRAYER FOR UNITY — Last Sunday, we heard the final words Jesus spoke before his ascension into
heaven, words recorded by Saint Mark. Today we listen to a portion of what has become known as Jesus'
"final discourse" from John's Gospel. Once again, the Lord's words contain a commissioning of his disciples
for ministry to the world. One important part of this discourse is Jesus' prayer for unity: "Keep them in your
name that you have given me, so that they may be one just as we are one." As the Easter season comes to an
end, a season that has seen us deepening our awareness of the Paschal Mystery, it is fitting that today we hear
this prayer for unity among the Lord's followers. Let us celebrate the unity we have with other Christians
and work together to heed the Lord's great commission to bring the Good News to our weary world.

A NOTE FROM DEACON FRANK
I would like to extend my most sincere thanks to all who joined me in celebrating my 25th
Silver Jubilee on Sunday, May 3rd. I truly appreciated your presence on my special day and
I was overwhelmed by both your thoughtfulness and the gifts given to me.
Thank you so much for everything and for making my anniversary one that I will remember
for the rest of my life. It has been a privilege to be able to serve all of you and know that
you are in my prayers daily. May God bless you and may he continue to bless our parish
family here at Saint Bernard.
GENERATIONS OF
FAITH CAMPAIGN
To provide for our needs and
ensure the viability of our
spiritual home, the Diocese of
Brooklyn has embarked on a bold
initiative called Generations of
Faith. This campaign will
strengthen our parishes, fulfill our
promise to our priests, and foster
the formation of our faith in
future generations of Catholics.
Saint Bernard will receive back
50% of all funds raised up to our
goal and 75% of funds raised over
our target.
If you have received a letter or
packet about this very important
campaign, please prayerfully
consider making a pledge and
return it to the Rectory or directly
to Msgr. Jamie.
