2013 Annual Report - The Women`s Resource of Greater Houston
2013 Annual Report The Women’s Resource of Greater Houston provides free financial education and research so that women and girls have the knowledge they need to make sound financial decisions and improve their lives. We could not educate almost 6,000 individuals without committed donors and our incredible corps of volunteer instructors. Each of you makes our success possible, and we extend a heartfelt thank you. Your support enables our organization to provide free financial education to many of our cities most vulnerable residents. A few of the highlights from this past year include Chavez High School Project LEAD Participants completing year three of the pilot at Chávez High School. We hosted visits to UH Clear Lake and HCC Coleman Campus in the Texas Medical Centerboth trips were first time experiences for the girls. The fourth annual Briefing Breakfast featured an engaging panel that discussed “What Women Can Do” and shared their perspective on what it means to really lean in! Our annual luncheon was the largest in our organization’s history and featured the inimitable, Gloria Steinem. We also introduced a new logo that more accurately reflects our mission. Again, thank you for your continued support that not only accomplishes our goal to build the financial literacy of low income Houston women and girls, but also impacts future generations and, ultimately, our neighborhoods and city. Together, we are making a difference. So I Loretta Cross passed on a packet that I had gotten at the end of the class Lynda Daniel to one of my friends. After she read it, she passed it on as Lynn Liberato well. Because of the advice from the class, a lot of my Maria Gonzales friends have become more responsible with their money and Michele Alvarado most of their parents trust them more. Rotary Club Foundation The Women's Resource classes have made things so much easier to not be afraid of what we have waiting for us in the near future. The class that I enjoyed learning from was when the college representatives came and talked to us about financial choices that honestly I didn’t even know existed. My behavior has changed drastically. My bad habits of always turning in things at the last minute or not even turning anything has changed. I actually enjoy doing the assignments. My actions now reflect who I want to be… My family has a different outlook to them. They used to tease me because of my “silly” dreams but now I see them giving me a hand actually supporting my decisions to better myself… – JC, César Chávez CORPORATIONS AND FOUNDATIONS Actuarial Systems Corporation Ameriprise Financial Grant Atrium RTW, LLC BBVA Compass BB&T Employee Contribution Bell State Bank & Trust Brown Foundation Cameron Foundation Capital One Eileen Fisher Exxon Mobil Club Federal Home Loan Bank Green Bank Hagan Family Fund Halliburton Hewlett Packard J.
