fi- AF&G NEWSLETTER Volume 00 Issue 6 ARROWHEAD FISH & GAME CONSERVATION CLUB Tune 2000 Pig Roasushoot Hard work and a sleepless night is the recipe for success of the annual Pig Roast and shoot. Many people worked hard the evening before the event setting up a challenging sporting clays course and preparing all night the roasted whole pig. Tom C;oper tamed the course with Joe " I guess I'll shoot " V. iesgas close behind. Scott Leslie edged out Kevin Snuth arrd Gerry Zambel in a shoot offfor third place. Philip Cooper was Hi-Jr. This well attended event was hosted by Kevin Smith, Chris Schierhold and Bill Creggar. The roast pig was an outstanding finish to a great shoot. By: Jack The Action Pistol season is right around the corner so dust offyour gear and come to the range to test your "stuff." Here are some suggestions to help you get off to a good start. Last season this shooter was plagued with magazine and ejection extractor and a new recoil spring solved the ejection problems. A trip to Bolsa Gunsmithing and a modified problem. l0 new Shooting Star magazines were ordered from Turner's. Five or six recoil springs and a spring gauge helps me tune for a particular load. A good cleaning and light oil got me ready for a trip to the range. No more jams and my brass isn't all dinged upl Continued on Page 2 Jim Freiberger breaking clays Trap League Results Five weeks and four hundred targets later we have a winner. Despite a hard charging Carl Ferguson, club president, Scott Leslie hung on for a wire to wire victory @arely). Going into the last round with an eleven bird lead, Carl shot 48/50 and closed the lead to only 3 targets. Thanks to all who participated and especially to Jim Freiberger for a well organized event. Carl Ferguson & Scott Leslie set the pace early, both scoring perfect 50's. Don Marquis was right behind with 49. Handicap yardage saw Marquis finish with a 94, tops for AF&G, only 3 targets from high overall set by Inland's Gene Hall. - 16 YD lOO TARGET TRAP SHOOT AF&G RESULTS Marquis Kevin Smith Scott Leslie Bill Creggar Don Its that time again to see who will be first to score a perfect 100 at the l6yd line. Look in the Winchester Loading Manual for loading the .45 ACP-230 grain lead round nose. You'll notice a significant drop in pressure for a given velocity. (Example 830 fps is standard for the .45 ACP-230 grain bullet). WSF is a little dirtier than W231, but it's no worse than Unique. After firing a couple hundred rounds my wrist isn't as sore, that's a good thing. Keep in mind, target loads are fine for target shooting but this sport is for defensive tactics, so full power loads are recommended. To test your skill you'll want to shoot at 8-inch disks at about 15 yards. A good source fortargets is your local market. Getthe 8-inch paper plates and staple them to your target stand. Also a timer is useful so that you can "race" the clock. Check out electronic kitchen timers that can be set to count down (about $10). I clip mine to my "ear guards" so I can start it with my right hand next to my right ear and when it counts down to zero I can hear it beep. Start with six rounds in 12 seconds, you'll be shooting six rounds in less than six seconds before you know it. An inexpensive target stand can be made from?A inch (Schedule 40) PVC pipe. When you're done you'll have a stand about 5 feet tall and it should look like an H with a horizontal piece across the top. Three plastic woodworking clamps (about $2 a piece) are used to hold the target backing in place, about 20 inches by about 36 inches. I use previously shot NRA/ B-27's from my PPC competition. To keep the stand upright 24 xVzineh Rebar (about $1.50 each) is hammered into the ground for each leg and the PVC legs are slipped over the Rebar and you're ready to start shootin'. The total cost for each stand is about 12 bucks! it; some suggestions to get you on your way to another great shooting you're feet firmly planted! The rifle side had a great 22 caliber shoot while a sporting clays event was being held next door. The next day pistol shooters were treated to an Action pistol shoot. 3 events, I weekend, what could be better. As range activity increases so does the need for safety. Whether your shooting during the week or weekend it is imperative to shoot safe. No cans or glass and shoot only approved targets. As important is keepine ar eye on your children and pets to prevent them from wandering from your sight or onto the firing range. Also as the temperature increases so does the danger of rattlesnakes. To improve your shooting safety and experience, the board ofdirectors are participating in fire and range safety classes & security badges have been issued. If approached by a club member with their badge don't argue, listen. Call: 909-337-7000 Yf,'cvaHlilOUUV OnrI'lgg Xog 'o'a 8n'lC NOIIVAU3SNOC 3l,llvg HSll OV3HMOUUV z99z6 " U3II3-ISMEN CSJV
