PO Box 1409 Camdenton, MO 65020-1409 Phone: 573-346-9213 Fax: 573-346-9211 Dear Patrons, On the pages that follow, you will read about the greatest resources of the Camdenton R-III School District, our students and staff. Our students are dedicated to the activities in which they participate and strive to represent our district in a positive manner. Our students are supported by skilled coaches, directors, and sponsors. These dedicated staff members not only teach the necessary skills of the activities they promote, they also instill life-long values. These efforts assist us on our path to meet our vision of “Everyone Learning Every Day.” Camdenton is known as one of the premier school districts in the state of Missouri. We are fortunate to have first-class facilities, thanks to the support of our patrons. Our district is ready to surpass last year’s accomplishments this school term whether it be on the field, on the court, or in the classroom. “Purple Pride” runs deep in our community and we thank you for your support of our students and staff. Please continue to support our students and sponsors by displaying positive Laker Pride. Your example assists our students to continue the proud traditions of “Laker Nation.” Our entire school community encourages you to enjoy our activities. We teach, we learn, and we build relationships as Lakers through the activities highlighted in this wonderful publication. We look forward to cheering with you to support our amazing students. It’s a Great Day to be a Laker! Tim Hadfield, Superintendent Board of Education Chris C. McElyea Nancy A. Masterson Selynn Barbour Laura Davis Courtney Hulett Jackie Schulte Tom Williams Linda Leu President Vice-President Treasurer Director Director Director Director Secretary Welcome to Camdenton High School “Home of the Lakers” Brett Thompson, Principal Welcome to Camdenton High School, Home of the Lakers! It is an exciting time to be a Laker, and we are looking forward to a successful fall season of CHS activities. With the hard work and commitment of our students, coaches, and sponsors we are sure to continue that winning Laker tradition. As we look forward to a new season of activities, we want to thank our community for the continuous support provided to our students and our school. By working together, we are sure to maintain a positive learning community for our students and help them achieve great successes both in the classroom and on the field. The mission of Camdenton High School is to provide students with a relevant and rigorous educational experience, helping them acquire the knowledge and skills to successfully become college and career ready in a global society. Extra-curricular programs are an extension of the classroom, and they play a significant role in achieving this mission. Participation in these activities allows students to realize the importance of individual responsibility, competition, and teamwork, all of which will contribute to their future accomplishments. Through their commitment to team success, students learn valuable lessons regarding character and sportsmanship that not only help them succeed on the field of play, but also provide them experiences that allow them to become productive citizens and adults. I encourage you to continue to support our students and recognize their efforts by displaying that positive “Laker Pride” for your school, your teams, and your community. We look forward to seeing you at our events this fall. Go Lakers!!! Jeff Whitney, Director of Athletics and Activities Welcome to the Home of the Lakers! My name is Jeff Whitney and I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our fans and guests to another great year of activities. As the Director of Athletics and Activities I am always excited about a new school year and the upcoming activities and events that come with it! You may notice a new sport on the schedule this year. The Lakers have added Swimming to its list of fall and winter sports! As some of you may know, over the past several years many of our students have participated in Lake Area club swim programs. Now our young men and women have the opportunity to swim for the Lakers in addition to these teams! Our boys’ season will be during the fall and our girls will swim during the winter season. Extra-curricular activities play a very special part in our school’s educational program. Our school and community are dedicated to our students’ pursuit of excellence and the values taught by interscholastic competition. The playing field is viewed as an extension of the classroom where lessons about sportsmanship, self-discipline, and perseverance are often learned. In addition, these competitive endeavors offer opportunities for students from diverse backgrounds to learn the value of teamwork, cooperation, and mutual respect. We know it is qualities such as these that will help develop the productive citizens and sound leadership of tomorrow. As spectators, we too are an important part of this “classroom” and the lessons taught. We should always remember that our actions will speak much louder than our words. With this in mind, it is essential that we serve as positive role models for our student body. Officials, coaches and student athletes will often fall short of perfection; this is to be expected. Enjoy the contests scheduled this season - our students, coaches, and officials have worked extremely hard to give their best performance. Go Lakers!!! Laker Athletic Boosters, Inc., Benefitting the Camdenton R-III Athletic Programs The following Gold and Purple Sponsors’ contributions benefit every Camdenton Laker Student Athlete by providing needs such as equipment, facilities, special programs, and improvements. The show is presented in five acts, entitled Ceremony, Coronation, Courtship, Celebration, and Crusade. The music for this year’s presentation is taken entirely from the repertoire of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and will include selections from the bright and flashy opera, The Magic Flute, a soloist showcase from Clarinet Concert in A Major, and the dark and brooding Requiem Mass. The band is conducted on the field by our drum majors Darren Figgins, Phoebe Hogeland, and Claire Roettgen. The ensemble will be competing all over the Midwest again this year. Our competitions take us to Clarksville, Tennessee, St. Charles, Missouri, and Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. As is our tradition, the competitive season will culminate at the Bands of America Super Regional in St. Louis, Missouri. We will be up against 65 of the best bands in the country for a prestigious spot in finals. Last year, the band missed the final round of competition by one spot, coming in 15th place - our highest finish ever! Paul Baur is the director of bands, assisted by Mike Fenn, Amanda Fall, and Alisha Baur. The color guard directors are Chris Garstang, Tim Roettgen, and Kayla Paterson. Additional band camp staff includes Matthew Vallot, Taylor Hughes, Austin Riedy, Christa Lenau, Tom Pannullo, and Aaron Short. The sound production team consists of Eric Petska and Troy Risner. The show concept and design staff includes some of the most innovative specialists in the country, including Wes Cartwright, music arranger Will Pitts, percussion writer Adam Wiencken, and drill designer Mark Moreno. The 2016 Camdenton Laker Football squad will be ready to answer the bell August 19th, when the Lakers travel to Hillcrest for the season opener. The team has had a great off-season. The HOGS have dominated the weight room. The Candies (running backs, receivers and QBs for those who are unfamiliar with Candies) had a successful summer of 7 on 7. The team grinded through ten days of summer camp in the grueling heat. With all of the work that has been put in, the sweat that has been poured out and the strengthening of TEAM, the Lakers are ready to play. The excitement is growing but there is a lot of work to do once practice begins in August. The team has set lofty goals for the upcoming year. Through hard work, great decision making, and playing good football, the Lakers feel confident they will find their way to the top once again. This year’s Laker squad has quite a few holes to fill due to graduation. Graduating All-Conference players Josh Keys and Parker Pitts (also All-State) leave big shoes to fill. The Lakers have four returning starters on offense, which include Dyllan Decker, Jay Griffin, Parker Stidham, and Austin Stamper. Wyatt Danuser, Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson return on the defensive side of the ball. It may seem, on paper, we are rebuilding, but many of our newcomers had varsity experience last year as role players. This year’s squad features many new faces, yet possesses the Laker Pride that has been passed down from generation to generation. It’s time to introduce this year’s Laker Football squad and, as usual, we begin with the soul of Laker Football…THE HOGS! This year’s offensive line has five new HOGS to create running lanes for our backs and protect our QB. Seniors Wyatt Danuser, Dylan Kelly, Braxton Shamburg and Zach Howery all look to compete for a position on the offensive line. The coaching staff is also expecting juniors Harrison Brownell, Connor Whitney, Wes Buckner, Grant Norton and Josh Semau to challenge for a starting spot on Friday nights. Sophomore Parker Ray is a newcomer who has the size to compete for the Lakers. Our younger HOGS will gain valuable experience on Monday nights during the JV games. Those players include Josh Harmon, Holden Looney, Jonathan Ortiz, Zach Trusty, Marlin Briggs, Jake Scarey, Riley Stidham, Camden Pitts, and Spencer Aldrich. Our JV team, year in and year out, has provided these younger players with valuable playing experience. The coaching staff wouldn’t be surprised if a couple of these athletes work their way into a Friday night role. This year’s running back position sees the return of Jay Griffin. Jay amassed 988 yards last year as a sophomore. We don’t expect him to carry the entire load of the offense. Senior Zach Wise is a talented and quick runner who will give the defenses some fits as they attempt to bring him down. Todd Simpson looks to step in at the fullback position. Todd has moved from tailback to fullback this year. He will receive quite a few carries at the fullback position to take some of the load off the tailbacks. Juniors Winton Neal, Bo Shore, and Seth Harris will have opportunities to see plenty of action on Friday nights at the fullback spot. Sophomore Andrew Butts is a talented runner. As he develops his skills through the season, he could end up with a number of carries on Friday nights. Our younger backs who will see most of their action on Monday nights include Lathan Wise, Cory Eskridge, Kyler Wilson, Davis Torrence, Josef Bernabe, David Smith, and Garrett Stamper. We are looking for all of these individuals to contribute and make an impact at the JV level. Traditionally, the Laker JV team has been very successful each year. We expect nothing less this year. Our receiving corps, which is made up of our split ends, slot backs, and tight ends, bring experience to the game. Parker Stidham returns as our starting tight end. Senior Kyle Diebold, sophomore Luke Rasmussen, and junior Jesse Walker all look to challenge for the starting spot. Boston Hauser, Jonathan Lumley, and Mason Bowles will see plenty of action on Monday nights. Senior Austin Stamper and junior Jackson Ezard look to be the frontrunners for the slot position. Both players had quality experience during last season. Both are physical athletes who can catch the ball well and also block at the line of scrimmage when the ball is run their way. Don’t count out Gabe Kurtz to earn a few snaps on Friday nights. Jake Hill earned the starting position at split end last year, but due to a season ending injury during game one, his season was brought to an early end. Jake is now back at full strength and ready to hit the field. Ryan Smythe and Matt Lawson will be competing for some of the snaps on Friday nights. Zach Malone, Kane Simmerley, Jaben Shockley, Bryce Metcalf, Brandt Arnold, Preston Crabtree, Branden Howe, Chris Cone, Will Morgan, Slater Massey, and Kyle Boatman will see most of their playing time on Monday nights. Neal and Dylan Kelly are our long snappers. There are a number of players competing for the punting position. Our final position to highlight is our quarterbacks. As usual, we have some talented athletes competing for this position. Senior Dyllan Decker and junior Isaiah Lumley will battle it out during practice to see who comes out on top. In years past, the Lakers have not shied away from playing two quarterbacks throughout the year. Dyllan and Isaiah are unique and possess different strengths that can be used strategically. Sophomores Cash Calton, Trenton Flug, and Skyler England will lead the Lakers to victory on Monday nights. This year, the Lakers will feature a faster defense than in the past couple of years. The Purple Haze will be asked to stop the run with our up-front players and stop the pass with our secondary. The Laker defense returns Wyatt Danuser, Parker Stidham and Todd Simpson. All three of these players played on the defensive line last year. Simpson will move to the linebacker position. Joining Danuser and Stidham on the defensive line will be Connor Whitney, Harrison Brownell, Grant Norton, and Jesus Ramirez, who will be competing for playing time on Friday nights. To round out the front line we have our defensive ends. Bo Shore, Jesse Walker, and Brandt Arnold will add to the strength of our line up front. We will next feature our linebackers. Our inside linebacker position is one of the toughest positions on the field. Todd Simpson, Zach Wise, Luke Rasmussen, Riley Stidham, and Winton Neal will compete for those two positions. Josef Bernabe, Kyler Wilson, Boston Hauser, and Mason Bowles should provide a solid performance on Monday nights. Our outside linebacker, named the “robber back”, will see Austin Stamper making the defensive calls for the Purple Haze. Winton Neal will be cross-trained at both positions. Garrett Stamper will see the majority of the reps on Monday nights. Our defensive backfield is asked to stop the pass-happy teams we face in the Ozark Conference. Jake Hill, Jay Griffin, Dyllan Decker, Andrew Butts, Matt Lawson, and Ryan Smythe will all compete for the three positions. Our hybrid player is a unique player who will be asked to play on the line as an outside linebacker or as a safety. This player must have some size and speed. Jackson Ezard and Gabe Kurtz will compete for playing time in this position on Friday nights. This year’s kicking duties have yet to be determined. At this time, Bryce Metcalf is doing a great job of taking the extra point and field goal duties. Parker Stidham will handle the holding duties. Winton Each year, we are blessed and fortunate to have a dependable and enthusiastic group of managers. This year, Avery Brownell, Noah Morgan, and Matthew Payne will take care of hydrating our players, fixing equipment, and completing a variety of other tasks that enable our team to perform at a high level. These gentlemen have a great task. They are at every practice and every game. They easily earn and deserve the right to be called Lakers. This year’s schedule is the same schedule as the past few years. The Lakers travel to Springfield Hillcrest in week one and travel to West Plains for week two. Week three, the Lakers host the Lebanon Yellowjackets for the home opener. Week four, the Lakers travel to Springfield Kickapoo. Week five brings the Parkview Vikings to the JOD. The Lakers travel to Rolla for week six. Week seven brings the most anticipated match up, year in and year out, as the Waynesville Tigers travel to Bob Shore Stadium for a great game. The Joplin Eagles make the long trip to Camdenton in week eight. For the final game of the regular season, the Lakers travel to Springfield to play the Glendale Falcons. While our regular season schedule remains the same, our district has changed. Every two years, MSHSAA sets all classifications and redraws all districts. For the next two years, the Lakers will play post-season in Class 4, District 5. The following teams are in District 5: Bolivar Liberators, Carl Junction Bulldogs, Hillcrest Hornets, Marshfield Bluejays, McDonald County Mustangs, West Plains Zizzers, and the Webb City Cardinals. At the conclusion of the regular season, the teams will be ranked and an eight-team single elimination bracket will be created. The Lakers are excited at the opportunity to play a few different teams and hopefully rekindle former rivalries. This year’s coaching staff includes Jeff Shore (head coach), Nick Bruck (defensive coordinator), Steve Bayless, Par Pitts, Lance Foulk, Andrew Nolting, Tim McDuffey, and Shawn Maschino. The Laker staff would like to welcome Michael Siegal to the staff this year. Michael’s official role is the Laker technology coach. Some people might wonder, “What does a technology coach do?”. Well, if you really want to know, follow Coach Siegal around on game night as he sets up cameras, the replay system, Ipads, communication devices, and viewing monitors. Technology has become quite the giant the last few years. We are extremely thankful to have Michael on board to take care of all our techie needs. We would also like to recognize our football operations staff of John McNabb, Marshall McGrath, and Ted Houx. The coaching staff would like to thank all of the parents. Year in and year out, the parents have entrusted the coaching staff with their son. We do not take this responsibility lightly. We thank you for your unending support. We thank you for the meals you prepare for our players every Thursday night. We thank you for allowing us to coach your son. We would also like to acknowledge our tremendous fan base. Each year, you fill our stands at Bob Shore stadium and travel in force when we play on the road. We thank you for the time you spend supporting the Lakers. We look forward to seeing each and every one of you this year as you cheer on these athletes!!! Laker Seniors Zach WISE “Well it’s been a long journey since seventh grade, and I wouldn’t trade this brotherhood for anything. This sport has made me into the man I am today. The best part about playing is the crowd cheering you on under those Friday night lights. Let’s make this season one to never be forgotten!” Dyllan DECKER “Playing football for this program has taught me countless lessons in the last six years. Being a Laker has been one of the biggest blessings in my life, and is something I wouldn’t trade for anything in the world. Wearing that purple has made me into the person I am today. For my last year, I can only say one thing... it’s... #SVGSZN.” Austin STAMPER “Being a part of this football program means a lot to me and has been a big part of my life. It went by way quicker than I was expecting. If I was to give any advice to any of the younger players, it would be to not take Camdenton Football for granted.” Giusep LOPEZ “Proud but never satisfied.” Dylan KELLY “No matter how tired you get, how bad you hurt, and how sick you feel, you go 110% every down and every snap. Nothing is given free, outwork everyone, and last, but not least.... Play like a bad dude and HOGS RULE!!!!” Kyle DIEBOLD “I’ve come a long way from the first practice of seventh grade football, but if there is one thing I figured out, it’s that I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” Zach HOWERY “Football has given me family and friends and I can’t wait to fight on the field with them.” Wyatt DANUSER “It’s senior year already? That went by way too fast. I’m looking forward to my last season with my brothers. If there is one thing football has taught me, it is that you should never take anything for granted because one day it will be gone. HOGS RULE!!” Holden GARMANY “Never give up, never give in, never stop, always win. These words have helped me out with this sport all my life, outside and in football. They apply specifically for the times it looked like we would lose, and then we won. I am blessed to have played with my teammates. HOGS RULE!” Braxton SHAMBURG “Although I was only part of the football program for a short time, the team taught me many things about myself and life.” Ryan SMYTHE “#SVGSZN” Parker STIDHAM “I remember growing up with those guys playing football on the playground in elementary school to middle school and now high school. I was blessed and fortunate enough to score the first touchdown for the class of 2017. I have mixed emotions going into this senior year. Football for me has been a way of life and, in some ways, a family tradition. My dad played football here and now it’s mine and the rest of my brothers to make our mark on this town through our play. It’s our last year, so we might as well go out with a bang. #FOE” 1 2 3 4 6 10 16 17 18 19 21 22 23 24 25 26 28 30 31 35 39 40 46 Colten Glawson Paxton Delaurent Jase Nicklas Raymond Kline Jeremeya Bell Treyvor Watson Spencer Melville Dalton West Ryan Maasen Tyle Jones Kinzell Stanciel Conner Morgan Jeremy Bernabe Emmitt Reynolds Ethan Harris Dylan Dobrick Elias Ramirez Mathew Klein Talon Randazzo Brandon Leek Anthony Yates Thomas Garagnani Isaiah Parker 5'11" 6'0" 5'8" 5'8" 5'9" 6'2" 5'9" 5'10" 5'11" 5'10" 5'8" 5'6" 5'5" 6'0" 5'4" 5'11" 5'6" 5'4" 5'6" 5'8" 5'10" 5'10" 5'11" 143 126 136 113 136 160 131 139 160 138 147 119 150 192 145 135 166 125 118 149 167 161 172 RB/DE QB/DB QB/DB WR/DB WR/DB WR/DE WR/DB WR/DB RB/LB WR/DB RB/DB RB/DB RB/LB TE/DE WR/LB WR/DB RB/LB RB/DE RB/DB WR/LB RB/DE TE/DE WR/LB 53 54 55 56 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 68 69 75 76 77 79 81 84 88 Tate Looney Jeremiah Wilkens Landon Ray Jack Welsh Addison Stanley Ethan McDaniel Jacob Curley Breyden Tapp Marcus Stephens Jacob Lansford Wyatt Jackson Jacob Morgan Dex Heier Reese Esqueda Louis Powers Hunter Dymond Bobby Swann Mason Kinney Ridge Smith Tyler Hunter 5'11" 5'10" 6'0" 5'9” 5'10" 5'6" 5'10" 5'9" 5'6" 5'5" 5'9" 5'9" 5'8" 5'2" 6'1" 5'1" 6'2" 6'2" 5'8" 5'9" 181 183 170 164 145 171 170 167 201 172 156 219 157 190 172 121 218 183 152 125 OL/DL OL/LB OL/DL OL/DL OL/DE OL/DL OL/DL OL/DE OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL OL/DL TE/DE TE/LB WR/LB Managers: Jordan Davis and Harrison Nielsen Freshman Football Schedule Aug. With the graduation of two seniors, the 2016 squad features seven returners and two newcomers. Returning for the Lakers are seniors Daphne Dinsdale, Jordan Wolfe, Mariah Hadfield, Tegan Shockley, Bailey McElyea and Blair Kurtz. These six seniors have set the tone for what hopes to be a highly successful season. Jordan Wolfe and Daphne Dinsdale were both members of the Class 4 SC All-Region team and members of the Class 4 District 10 First and Second Teams. Hadfield also joined Dinsdale and Wolfe on the All-Ozark Conference team. This group of seniors is looking to leave their mark in the Laker Volleyball books! Joining the six seniors on the varsity roster will be juniors Abbie Miller, Victoria Turner, Sara McDuffey, and Kylie Meier. Rounding out the varsity squad will be sophomore Natalie Basham. Abbie Miller is a returning letterman for the Lakers and will continue to be a valuable part of our 6-2 offense. Victoria Turner is a transfer defensive specialist/libero who will also see plenty of court time this season. Basham will see time as an outside hitter as she has proved to be an important part of our offense this summer. We are also expecting McDuffey and Meier to give us some quality swings off the bench when we need them to step in. The Lady Laker Volleyball team has been working hard in the off-season and is fired up about the season beginning. We have been counting down the days since last season, as we hope to continue to grow as a team and as individuals. With the rich tradition and pride that comes while wearing our uniform, it will be crucial to continue to strive to work together as one team with the purpose of overcoming any adversity that the season may bring. We are looking forward to the opportunity of proving ourselves in the always-tough Ozark Conference and setting our goal to make some noise as we push for a postseason run this year. “We would like to thank the parents, fans, community and school district for their support and encouragement. 2016 looks to be an exciting year for us and we hope to see you at our matches,” states Coach Walker. Daphne DINSDALE Blair KURTZ “There are many athletes who can look back on their high school experience saying they were part of a team. However, there are very few who can say they were part of a family. I can proudly say that I am one of the lucky few, and for that I am grateful beyond words. Over the last six years, I have made countless memories and formed friendships that will last a lifetime. Being a part of the Camdenton Volleyball family was an experience that I will never forget.” “At some point in volleyball history, somebody felt sorry enough for those of us too short to reach the top of the net to give us a name: defensive specialist. Fancy sounding, but more accurately described as ‘designated shagger’…JUST KIDDING! I’ve worn the DS title with pride through my years of Camdenton Volleyball. And what a time that has been! These four years and five girls you see on this page have impacted my life in an indescribable way. You’ve got Daph, a solid leader on and off the court who always has anyone’s back and would never let you down. Jordi, who makes anyone on the other side of the net pee their pants and has show-off killer dance moves in the locker room. Mariah, whose been know to growl at opponents and also DJ some off-the-hook pre-game jams. Bails, who literally does it all and once wore a child-sized dinosaur costume to a Halloween practice. These girls are the real deal, folks --- my sisters and my teammates. It tears me up knowing it’s over, but I wouldn’t trade it for the world.” Mariah HADFIELD “There are so many words I could use to describe what volleyball is to me, almost too many words. But the most important word that would fit my experience with Camdenton Volleyball would be “family”. Over the years of playing I’ve gained confidence, strength, and most importantly a group of sisters. As this season comes to an end and we all move on to better, greater things, it will be hard to let go of such a great program. But this team, this family, will be something I will cherish for the rest of my life. ‘For each other with each other!’” “People really do mean it when they say senior year comes way too fast, looking back on when I first started playing in middle school. I remember watching the varsity team play and thinking that my senior year seemed so far away, but now it’s here! During these past four years of high school, my teammates and coaches have instilled a work ethic in me that I will carry with me into the future. I have made lifelong friends and have made tons of memories I will never forget. Volleyball has always been a sport I love and cherish and I can’t wait to see what this season has in store for us.” Tegan SHOCKLEY “It’s hard to believe senior year has come so quickly. There have been early mornings, long days, tears, and injuries, but mainly laughter. I have played with the most dedicated, fun-loving group of girls and I couldn’t be more excited to take on this last season with them. ‘Together we win!’” Jordan WOLFE “Since I could hold a ball I have had a volleyball in my hand. I would always go with my mom to the gym and watch her play and take the ball and hit it against the wall. Volleyball has always been a big part of my life; hard to believe this will be my last year playing in high school. I have overcome so many obstacles thrown my way, had four surgeries and have four screws in my left ankle but still manage to keep pushing and playing the sport I love! The friendships and the memories that I have made at Camdenton High School will be something I cherish for many years to come. It will be hard to say goodbye when the season ends.” Varsity Team Varsity Roster 2 Daphne Dinsdale 12 5’10” 6 Bailey McElyea 12 5’6” 8 Jordan Wolfe 12 6’0” 11 Tegan Shockley 12 5’8” 14 Mariah Hadfield 12 6’0” 16 Victoria Turner 11 5’10” 19 Natalie Basham 10 5’8” 24 Abbie Miller 11 5’6” 36 Blair Kurtz 12 5’1” District Champions 2008, 2004, 2001, 1985, 1982, 1981 2008 Sectional Playoff Winner Ozark Conference Champions 2009, 2005, 2002 2015 Win/Loss Records - Varsity: 14-13-3, JV: 19-11, Freshman: 20-10 Junior Varsity Team 3 4 5 9 Grace Wormek Lizzie Miller Grace Houston Karli Wolfe 10 Sara McDuffey 12 Kylie Meier 21 Sabrina Schesnol 22 Lauryn Hulett 23 Madison Vanderploeg 27 Claire Whittle 29 Whitney Reeves 34 Megan Vest 35 Je’Anne Wegner Freshman Team 1 Aubree Enos 5’1” 7 Audrey Currier 5’6” 13 Addy Normand 5’8” 15 Carlee Selby 5’3” 17 Emme Thompson 5’3” 18 Madison Robinson 5’9” 25 Abby Evans 5’4” 26 Hannah Rogers 5’4” 28 Gracie Poe 5’5” 30 Ainsley Lowther 5’3” 31 Clare Holmes 5’5” 32 Korrin Lembke 5’1” 33 Shelby Kurtz 5’3” 11 10 10 9 5’4” 5’6” 5’2” 5’9” 11 11 10 10 11 10 11 9 9 5’7” 5’7” 5’8” 5’5” 5’6” 5’5” 5’5” 5’9” 5’9” Soccer 2016 “One Team” The Laker Soccer program would like to say thank you to all those who support it both during the season and in the off-season. We would not be where we are today without the support, dedication, and hard work of our administrators, numerous parents, community supporters, booster club, volunteers, and students. The Camdenton Laker Soccer program, entering its 18th season, continues to establish itself among the Conference and the newly formed District. This is all possible in large part because of the time and effort put in by so many people who you will not see roaming the sidelines or playing on the field during a match. Our main focus this year is “One Team”. We see this as the core to our existence this season. These two words encompass everything that is important to growing as a program. This belief guides us in the way we conduct ourselves on a day-to-day basis - in our classrooms, our practices, and our games. In regard to relationships and achievements, we aim for “One Team” to be our focus. Our team will work each day not only on soccer and the pursuit of a District title, but also on making quality decisions and life choices that will make us successful, accountable young men. This year’s seniors, Cyric Banuelos, Adam Davies, Justin Gerdiman, Dustin Moesch , Dylan Pluth, David Prather, Josiah Scheidemantle, Cooper Short, and Luke Weber are busy establishing their roles on the team. This year brings a couple of changes in our program’s staff. New head coach Mike Gow brings 16 years of Ozark Conference soccer experience. He is busy sharing his philosophy of the game and what it means to be successful, and finding the right players to fill the team’s varsity roster. Along with Coach Gow being added to the staff, Patrick Dent moves into an assistant position. Coach Dent brings a passion to coaching and developing young men of character to the program. Coach Dent will be directing the junior varsity program in addition to his assistant varsity coaching duty. Chris Byington is moving into keeper training and working with Coach Gow in guiding the varsity team to continue the success and effort put in by former Head Coach Jason Ingold, who has moved into an administrative role with another district. I hope to keep playing after high school.” David PRATHER Cyric BANUELOS “I have played many sports in my lifetime and soccer has been a very big part of my life. The team is great. I am happy that I have them to support me in game and out of game. I don’t have a favorite moment because every minute that I spend with the team is my favorite, and I want to thank my coaches for the help on the practice field and off. The Laker Soccer program and the players are a family to me and Thank You!” “Soccer has been a great experience.” Josiah SCHEIDEMANTLE Adam DAVIES “I started my high school soccer career as an inexperienced goal keeper. Through my hard work and dedication to the sport I’ve improved to become the player I am today. I’ve learned that hard work will always create a better player than born skill.” Justin GERDIMAN “Soccer has been a very influential part of my life. It has been there for me in good times and bad. It has taught me so much, from patience and dedication to discipline and leadership. It has shown me I can set goals and with hard work and dedication I can achieve and exceed them. Last season we were able to get Coach Ingold his 100th win as a coach here and it was very cool to be part of that. I was also able to break the school goal-scoring record by scoring 29 goals over the course of the season. That is one of my greatest memories of my high school career and would not have been possible without all of the support I have on and off the field. The team has always been there to pick me up in my failures and congratulate me during my successes. I have gained so many close friends. My freshman year was such a great introduction into the program and helped me build a strong foundation for my next three years and on, both as an athlete and a man. Right now I’m supporting my teammates from the sideline while I recover from a knee injury, but I look forward to finishing the year out strong! During this school year and season I will look to improve myself in every way that I possibly can, and I will search for a college home where I can continue to play soccer.” “I played soccer all four years of high school. It was fun, and the team was cool. As always, it’s a great day to be a Laker.” Cooper SHORT “I can’t believe it’s already senior year. It still feels like just yesterday I was preparing myself for my very first day of practice. This sport has changed me. Freshman year I was timid and quiet and now I am nothing like that. It was always weird seeing seniors graduate and move on. I never knew what that would feel like until the start of this season. One of my favorite games was beating Rolla in Districts. I have loved every second of my high school career. Seeing the team grow is truly an amazing feeling. This year our team is looking for the District Championship. After high school I am looking to go to the University of Missouri for Sports Medicine.” Luke WEBER “Throughout the past two seasons I have become good friends with the upperclassmen and it was hard to loose them when they left last year, but I think we took a lot of skills from them and will come back from last season better. One of my favorite memories from the upperclassmen has to be when my older brother Nick scored the winning goal against Rolla in Districts. As my soccer career comes to an end, I realize that I’m going to miss all the guys and the great coaches.” Head Coach Jane Eidson 2016 Golf Team Roster Juniors 2016 Ladies’ Golf Team The Lady Laker Golf team is coming off their most successful season in the history of Lady Laker Golf. The 2015 Lady Lakers captured the Ozark Conference Championship title, the District title and placed second in the Sectional tournament. Their second place finish in the Sectional tournament qualified the Lady Lakers for the State tournament, which was a first for the Lady Laker Golf program. After two days of playing in the State tournament, the Lady Lakers finished eighth in the state in Class 2. We also had a successful match season as we finished with a 7-3 winning record. Amber Wilson, Katie Bird, and Amber Theobald earned Ozark Conference All-Conference honors. Wilson, Bird, Theobald, and Jennah Schell were named to the All-District team. Amber Wilson achieved All-State honors at the State tournament. Providing experience and leadership for our 2016 team will be returning varsity players, juniors Jennah Schell and Amber Wilson. Returning veteran golfers Emily Hunter, Alyssa Dittman, and Brooke Mayer and new golfer Allie Crowell will also help us this year as they continue to gain experience as golfers. The Lakers will host the Lady Laker Invitational Tournament at Lake Valley Country Club again this year and look to have a bigger and more competitive field of teams participating as this tournament continues to grow. A very competitive tournament schedule and a busy match season are in store for us. Despite losing three decorated seniors (Bailey Bilyeu, Kelsei Davis, and Madison Selby) who started almost every game since their freshman year, the outlook for this year’s edition of the Lady Laker Softball team is definitely a bright one. We are very lucky to have so many athletic and hardworking young ladies on our team who are dedicated to the sport and who not only play high school softball, but play travel ball all summer as well. We return six starters from last year’s team and eight varsity letter winners. We also have a good group of freshmen coming into our program this year. Returning this year are several players who were on the All-Conference and All-District teams last year and who should provide the Lady Lakers with experience and leadership. Two of those very talented and decorated young ladies are senior pitchers Kelly Uthe and Kylee Compton. Both of these pitchers also play shortstop and third base, respectively, and both were All-Conference and All- District players, with Kelly Uthe being named co-pitcher of the year in the Ozark Conference. We return two other well-seasoned and talented senior All-Conference and All-District players in second baseman Kristyn Carpenter and first baseman Erin Rasmussen. Those four seniors, when healthy, have started every game since their freshman year and, as captains and successful, experienced, decorated players, will be looked to a great deal to help this team achieve its lofty goals. Returning letter winners also include juniors Bayley Miller, who is capable of playing almost anywhere on the field, and Jillian Selander, who was All-District and All-Conference as a freshman and will once again be counted on to run down anything hit to center and provide the lineup with speed on the bases. Junior pitcher Lyndsay Boots adds pitching depth to a very talented and deep pitching staff. Several of last year’s talented freshman class will be counted on as sophomores to step into key positions. Fayth Rakes started behind the plate last season and provided the Lady Lakers with a good receiver who possesses a strong arm and a good bat. Haile Farris is another sophomore who has a big bat and looks to play a major role in the team’s success from the pitching circle and in the field. Shelby Webster will also play a major role for the Lady Lakers as she can play the corners and possesses home run capability. Emma Uthe and Sidney Jones are sophomores who were varsity letter winners in the 2015 season and look to play prominent roles in the team’s success in the 2016 season. Sophomore Haley Wheat adds depth to our infield and outfield and will supply a very experienced bat coming off the bench. Senior Claudia Rogers, and sophomores Autumn Reeves, Sasha Prather, and Dakota Weaver add competition to the mix and work to make our team that much stronger. All in all, the outlook for the 2016 softball season is very bright. Tyler Dinsdale, who has a wealth of knowledge and experience, returns for his second season as assistant coach and will coach the junior varsity while also coaching first base and the outfield for varsity. The 2016 edition of the Camdenton Softball team does face several challenges, including competing in the very tough Ozark Conference and working to win the program’s first District title in a district that contains traditional softball powerhouse Willard. These are challenges that our young ladies and coaching staff are looking forward to embracing and overcoming with lots of hard work, talent, and luck. From t-ball to machine pitch, then machine pitch to slow-pitch, and from slow-pitch to fast-pitch. When playing a game for so long you get the opportunity to move around on the field. I have gone from pitcher to third base to catcher to first base to being in the outfield where I currently play. Softball has always been a part of my life and I can thank my mom for pushing me to continue on with it. I am so grateful that I get to play on a field with such amazing and talented young ladies. Making new friends and reconnecting with some old ones during my high school career has definitely been one of my favorite parts about being a part of this team. That, and Kristyn Carpenter dancing in the middle of practices! Coach Calbert and Coach Davis have impacted my life by believing in me when I struggle to believe in myself. One thing I hope for the team this season is that we fight as hard as we did last year and finish it out just as strong.” Kristyn CARPENTER “Softball has made a huge impact on my life. I have had the opportunity to make lifelong friends, and have been able to share many unforgettable memories with them. I want to thank all my coaches, teammates, and my parents for pushing me to be the best player that I can be on and off the field. But most importantly, I want to thank God for placing softball into my life. I have been very thankful and blessed. Once a Laker, always a Laker.” Kylee COMPTON “For the past twelve years, softball has been one of the biggest parts of my life. Not a day has gone by that I haven’t picked up a ball in one way or another. I’ve met my best friends who’ve became family. From all the summer weekends and late school nights, and road trips and bus rides, I’ve made memories I’ll never forget. I’m so thankful for my family who have helped me pursue the passion I have for this sport. I also cannot give enough thanks to the incredible coaches who have pushed me to be the player and person I am today. They say home is where the heart is, and I’ve found my home to be on our field with my girls. Ultimately, I’m so happy to have had something that makes saying goodbye so hard. So much love for my softball family, and Go Lakers!” Erin RASMUSSEN “Softball has introduced me to some of my best friends and so many great opportunities.” Kelly UTHE “Playing softball has taught me many things that I will carry throughout life. I have met a lot of new people and I have made many memories and friendships that I’ll cherish forever. I want to give a big thank you to my parents for spending the time and money and encouraging me to become the best player that I could possibly become. I also want to thank all the many coaches who have helped me along the way. Time flies by, so something to remember: smile, life is good.” Seniors Grant BURTON “I’m too bad to skip practice!” Ernest JONES “I am excited this year to swim better and win competitions.” Sid KETCHAM “Probably the best workout I've ever experienced, don’t let that stop you though.” Boys’ Swim Team “Yeah, the Lakers have a swim team! I am excited to be part of the inaugural season for boys’ swimming. My name is Anna Leezer and I am the head coach for the Camdenton boys’ swim team and the assistant coach for the local swim club, Tridents. My involvement with swimming began in order to feel comfortable having my daughter play on our dock and during boating season. My family has been involved in swimming for nine years and it has become an important part of our life. When the district decided to add a swim team, I knew that I wanted to be part of the team’s maiden voyage! The team is made up of a wide variety of athletes. Several have joined us from the local club team, several others have had swim lessons in the past, one swam for another high school, and others are just beginning to learn the sport. An exciting part of our team are the students who are not involved in any other sport! Laker swimmers will compete in 11 different events: 200m medley relay, 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 50m freestyle, 100m butterfly, 100m freestyle, 500m freestyle, 200m freestyle relay, 100m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, and the 400m freestyle relay. Swim meets will be held in Springfield, Seymour, Monett, and Sedalia. Along with Lilli Shields, JV coach, we are extremely excited for another year with the program. I have been with the program for five years and am delighted to begin my sixth year with the new varsity team. I am a 2000 graduate of Camdenton and bleed Errin Gainey and Lilli Shields purple and gold. I was a Camdenton cheerleader for six years and named All-American my senior year. I am fortunate to be able to share my experience and passion for the sport. Tryouts were held in April and we are thrilled to hit the ground running with this new season. The Laker Cheerleaders attended the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) summer camp. They learned new cheers, chants, and stunts. The staff was really great with the girls and Sam Smith Marianna Torres Kaylie Wallander Allison Varner Meri Viebrock Leann Weissbeck Alli Wood helped them learn a variety of new skills you are sure to see. The girls have pushed themselves as they strive for nothing but the best. We are preparing for the State Fair Spirit Classic Nationals, in Sedalia, Missouri. This requires several extra hours of work and I want to thank the parents for their support. It takes a lot of dedication from all of us and I am looking forward to watching the girls perform. We are even looking into doing another competition this year and anticipate great success for this year’s routine. I am eager to begin the new season and I’m looking forward to working with the girls and making it the best year yet. Again, extreme thanks to the parents, booster club, and school district for all their support. We couldn’t do it without you.” Cheers!! Go Lakers!!! A s the Laker Dance team coaches, we are really enthusiastic about the upcoming year! We have added five new freshmen who have lots of energy, skill, and technique. Adding these new girls to an already existing group of talent is going to make for an amazing team. Dance Team Coaches: This summer, the Laker Dance team hosted a National Dance Alliance (NDA) camp where they learned a variety of routines to perform at football and basketball games. During camp, they earned a blue “Superior” ribbon for their team dance, as well as many ribbons for individual performances. Not only did the team earn an invitation to the NDA National Championships, they also received invitations to four other varsity special events. This is certainly true for the sport of cross country. Distance running is the perfect sport for those seeking to reach a goal that, quite frankly, most people don’t think is possible. To be able to run miles and miles takes courage, fortitude, and sacrifice. It is with these qualities and goals in mind that the 2016 team embarks upon its journey. This year’s squad is quite different from years past. Gone are the largest graduating class that we have had in 14 seasons, State and Sectional qualifiers, and school record holders. The new team is filled with plenty of new faces and untapped abilities. So to say that we will be young and inexperienced, well… that’s really true. However, there are a few returning runners who I hope will lead our squad in reaching our goals for the upcoming season. Returning seniors are Nick Salsman, Coleman Roberts, and Raleigh Johns. These seniors have several years of experience among them as Coleman has been with the program for four years and Nick and Raleigh, three years each. Although this is not the most talented group of seniors I have had, their leadership and the high expectations I have for them haven’t changed. Sophomore Garrett Mason returns for his second year after a great freshman season along with a quality track season. Garrett has some real talent and could be a leader in terms of time for our squad as expectations are quite high for him. On the girls’ side, Erika Nevins, Haley Green, and Sarah Ketchum return as sophomores. These girls showed steady improvement last year and should continue to help our squad. Many of the new faces include seniors Katherine Miller and Hannah Bentley. Hannah is back after taking some time away from running and Katherine is a real hard worker. There are also some freshmen who will have an impact on our team this year, including Andrew Dibello, Hanna Lehner, and Kelby Virtue. So while this is probably one of the youngest teams we have ever had, I am still excited about molding these runners into great athletes who know how to go the extra mile. Cross Country is not a sport for anyone, it’s a sport for everyone. Everyone, that is, who desires to achieve a goal through hard work, determination, and sacrifice. XC Coaches Head Coach David Weber Assistant Coach Gary Thompson Hannah BENTLEY “Keep your heels, head, and standards high!” XC Seniors Raleigh JOHNS “Life is like running. There are uphills and downhills in your way that you have to conquer.” Katherine MILLER “I have found my strength in running and overcoming distances I never thought I could reach.” Coleman ROBERTS “We all have dreams. But in order to make dreams come into reality it takes an awful lot of determination, dedication, self-discipline, and effort.” Nick SALSMAN “Cross Country… I haven’t always done XC, in fact if it had not been for Coach Weber during track I wouldn’t have known about it. My sophomore year I had no idea what I was getting into. I found out pretty quickly that this sport takes so much commitment; running every day is what we do. This sport has taught me more about myself than any other sport could and it has led to things I’ll never forget, like running the L.A. Marathon this past winter, meeting new people, and creating lasting memories. I am forever grateful for this sport and the people and experiences I have gained from it.” Cross Country Schedule XC Roster 2016 Seniors Sophomores Hannah Bentley Raleigh Johns Karrissa Kennedy Katherine Miller Coleman Roberts Nick Salsman Haley Green Sarah Ketchum Garrett Mason Erika Nevins Juniors Noah Bentley Cassie Kennedy Freshmen Andrew DiBello Hanna Lehner Shelby Mount Alicia Smythe Kelby Virtue Sept.
