A publication for students, employees and friends of State Fair Community College ROADRUNNER READER Closing the loop THE What picture pops in your head when you hear the phrase “closing the loop?” The phrase is often used to describe actions such as following up, checking in or closing the deal. SFCC is taking a new approach to helping students close the loop on their educational goals with the implementation of the Student Success Navigators program on Oct. 1. Dr. Joanna Anderson, SFCC president, says the new program is designed to provide each student with a navigator who will be a student’s “personal guide to success.” “Navigators will advise students, help them stay on course and assist them with issues that present detours along the way,” says Anderson. “Our goal is to provide educational and personal support for all SFCC students that will result in more students reaching their goals. I’m proud to say our Board of Trustees supports this initiative.” To learn more, visit www.sfccmo.edu/navigator. Get ready to meet YOUR navigator! Leadership potential Students interested in developing and improving leadership skills are invited to join Phi Beta Lambda, the college division of Future Business Leaders of America. Members need only to be enrolled in at least one business class, and it can be PBL (OADM123). The group will meet 2:30 p.m., Sept. 19 in Fielding 217. SFCC is the only college in Missouri that offers leadership credit for PBL members! PBL helps students focus on their own leadership styles, practice community service and participate in state and national competitions. Classic Country Jamboree benefit The Genuine Country Music Association will host the second benefit jamboree 2 p.m. Oct. 12 at The Lodge of Four Seasons, 315 Four Seasons Drive, Lake Ozark, to raise scholarship funds for students attending SFCC-Lake of the Ozarks. The show will feature Bill (Goofer) Atterberry, a comedian, musician and entertainer at Lee Mace’s Ozark Opry; Tim Atwood, a veteran of the Grand Ole Opry staff band; Scotty Henderson, a Kansas Steel Guitar Hall of Fame member; vocalist Alicia Farrell Lange, a Lake of the Ozarks native who is a demo singer and back-up vocalist in Nashville; and The Board of Directors Band, with Roy D. and Jim Phinney on guitar, Jay Orr on drums and John Farrell on bass. Roxane Atwood, a Nashville TV producer, announcer and voice-over artist, will emcee the event with Farrell.
