Wendy Bohlinger Wilderstein FESTIFALL 2009 AUCTION ITEM LISTING LIVE AUCTION ITEMS L-1 Midweek getaway for two at Mohonk Mountain House Designated as a National Historic landmark, Mohonk Mountain House is ready to make you feel like a princess as you canter along the carriage trails and through the pristine gardens, and return to find afternoon tea and scrumptious confections waiting for you. Whoever said that life’s simple luxuries were a thing of the past has not had the pleasure of visiting Mohonk Mountain House. Enjoy a mid-week, non-holiday, non-peak season overnight stay for two at Mohonk Mountain House. Surrounded by acres of forest, with activities such as rock climbing and hiking, on some of the world’s finest and best maintained trails, you will be enveloped by old-world charm with the luxury of every amenity you can think of. Dinner, breakfast and lunch during your stay are included. Compliments of Jackie Appledorn and Mohonk Mountain House. L-2 Sofa Table I have in my home a table atop which sits such delights as a fish-bowl containing ticket stubs, wristbands and mementos from fun-filled activities, a Christmas cactus in full-bloom, a jar full of painstakingly selected seashells from South Carolina, a dish overflowing with heartshaped trinkets, rocks and shells, and a bowl of dated corks marking some of the loveliest moments I’ve shared with friends and loved ones. Don’t you wish you had such a table? I bet you do, which is why I urge you to bid on this meticulously handcrafted sofa table. You, too, will soon have a place worthy to place your most cherished keepsakes. Or simply never forget where you put your TV remote, car keys and this week’s issue of TV Guide. Hand crafted by DCC staff member Matt Hanlon. L-3 Hand-Woven American Coverlet, Circa 1900 Last fall, as you relaxed in the lobby of The Red Lion Inn by the warm, crackling fire, you remarked to your companion that you just had to get yourself a weaving like that breathtaking piece of art that’s hanging beside your room’s four-poster bed. Well, you’re in luck. This exquisite hand woven American coverlet, circa 1900, will indulge your sensibilities as it graces your foyer, grand staircase, or guest bedroom. Very sturdy and very collectible, this piece of history can be yours by winning this bid. Donated by DCC faculty member Peter Rivera. L-4 Time Share in Puerto Rico Not only did we have a cold, wet, rainy summer, but all signs point to this coming winter as being one of the coldest and snowiest on record! Well, here’s your chance to escape our winter wonderland and jet off for a week to Palmas del Mar in tropical Puerto Rico. This 3,000+ acre resort community is on the Caribbean side of Puerto Rico in Humacao and is only an hour from San Juan airport. The resort has such amenities as two golf courses, tennis center, riding stables, sailing and fishing charters, snorkeling and SCUBA trips, gym, beach and yacht clubs, a casino, walking and jogging trails, and many restaurants ranging from pizza to haute Puerto Rican cuisine. Nearby you will find Old San Juan and El Yunque, a National Rain Forest Park with hiking trails, as well as many fascinating Puerto Rican towns and villages. This condo is in the Beach Village area of Palmas, with balcony views of the Caribbean and Viequies Island. Offering a fully equipped kitchen (market on-site), WiFi, cable and laundry facilities, the condo sleeps 8 total in three bedrooms and a sleeping loft, and has two full bathrooms. Even though you’ll have access to the Beach Villas’ private pool, you might opt for the beach as it is only a minute’s walk from your bedside. Your choice of weeks in 2010 with some exclusions (due to prior commitments). Generously donated by DCCF Board Member Jeff Smith. L5 Relax, beautify, and indulge: Clove Branch Gift Certificate, Marlene Weber Day Spa package, Viscount Wines and Liquor gift card, Intrigue Salon gift certificate, Flower Barn gift certificate, Acupuncture and Wellness Center gift certificate, Champagne, chocolates, and a Hyde Park Jewelers gift certificate. Someone very wise wrote, ‘Forget love. I’d rather fall in chocolate.’ If you feel that way as well, then it’s safe to say you are a lover of the finer things in life… the things that, some might argue, are the very reason we are able to get through the week. Would you like a magnificent massage, a chic hair cut, sweet-smelling snapdragons, bountiful beauty-products and some bubbly? Be the winner of this smartly paired group of items and you will wonder no more what it is like to feel like the pampered privileged few. Thoughtfully donated by Peg Carroll, Ryan Fohl, Nicole Importa, Roy Lopez, Katherine Turner, Detlef Wolf, Laurie Cusher and Diana Pollard. L-6 Sex & the City Autographed Book Thanks to Carrie we are reminded of things like the fact that the most important relationship we have is the one with ourselves, and that some of us will never be the perfect woman with the perfect hair, who can wear white and not spill on themselves. Thanks to Samantha we are reminded that if he seems too good to be true, he probably is. And thanks to Sex in the City we are reminded that without our friends we have nothing. For the woman in your life who never missed an episode, bid on this autographed book and you’ll never be the topic of conversation at her weekly Sunday brunch with the girls… unless of course it’s to brag about what a wonderful boy you are. Donated by DCC faculty member Lowell Handler. L-7 Amsterdam – LeCanal Settled as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age. The entire city is now a protected area, assuring the world that the former splendor now restored will never fade or be forgotten again. If you’ve never had the pleasure of strolling along the canals, or if you have and long for another visit to the neighborhood markets, then this picture is one that must adorn your wall. Painted by Andre Bardet, a celebrated French artist who has won such prestigious awards as Salon des Indépendants and Club Pernod, this piece is one that will enhance both the aesthetics and value of your current collection. Picture includes certificate of authenticity. Generously donated by DCC Faculty Emeritus Toni Emery. L-8 Radio City Music Hall – four tickets You went for the first time with your grandparents when you were three, but all you remember is what they told you. Next time, many years later when you were 19, your trip got canceled because your parents thought you’d rather go skiing. Oh how wrong they were! Now, you’re older, wiser, and can afford to take yourself, your honey, and your two amazing children to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular that stars the world famous Radio City Rockettes in an unparalleled show featuring their signature eye-high kicks, precision choreography and exciting show stopping numbers. Tickets are for the 5PM show on Sunday, November 22nd, orchestra row OO, Seats 608-611. Generously donated by DCCF Board Members Shirley Brereton and Sue Doyle. L-9 1860’s Reidinger & Caire Stoneware jug There was a time when jars and jugs were strictly utilitarian in nature. They held milk, butter, flour and sugar, and occasionally, if you were lucky, they even may have held whiskey or wine. Containers like this were cherished, not so much for their aesthetic beauty or their outstanding quality, but because without them you and your family were at risk of not being able to properly store whatever it was that needed storing. Today we are fortunate to have the luxury of being able to appreciate this Reidinger and Caire stoneware jug for not only what it was, but for what it is: a work of art and a piece of our Hudson Valley history. Generously donated by DCCF supporter Jim and Lori Brands. L-10 Diamond Necklace Even though, like Malcom Forbes, you might think that diamonds are nothing more than chunks of coal that stick to their jobs, let’s be honest: Marilyn Monroe never said truer words than when she cooed that diamonds are a girl’s best friend. And they are. They are the best possible kinds of contradictions: Cool yet fiery... subtle yet sparkly. Win this ravishing 14k white gold ½ carat (3-stone) diamond pendant necklace for the woman you love, and drape it around her Audrey Hepburn neck. She’ll never let you forget how much she loves it or you. L-11 Rams Horn Village When I think of Colorado I think of wildlife that walks right up to my front door, slopes of waist-high powder, and of mountains so majestic they take my breath away. Bid on and win this full-week time share at the fabulous Ram’s Horn Village in majestic Ester Park, Colorado and you’re just a short walk away to skiing, hiking, and Estes village (home of the original hotel about which “The Shining” was written) with lots of eclectic shops and cafes. Or, if you’d rather, stay on-property and enjoy the breathtaking views from the outdoor heated pool and hottubs. Nestled between pristine mountain slopes and only an hour from Denver International Airport, this location enjoys proximity to the city while offering respite for the soul. Arrive on either Friday or Saturday, ready to enjoy the ambiance and the fresh air for a glorious week in the mountains. Available year round, but these fabulous cabin accommodations sell out far in advance. Generously donated by DCCF Board Member Sue Doyle and her husband Rob, make mutually agreeable arrangements for anytime in 2010 directly with them. L-12 Car Detailing I know you’re thinking that the love I have for my car, by now, has diminished. After all, it’s only a car. But you’d be wrong. And while my husband constantly reminds me that it is an inanimate object, I remind him that it’s loved almost as much as he is. And that when I slide onto my heated leather seat, program my navi for a day on the road, and crank my current favorite XM station, it is all I can do to not weep with joy over the sheer prospect of being within its safe, strong walls. How, then, could I possibly allow my floor mats and powerwindows to be anything less than picture perfect? I simply can’t. And I’m sure you feel the same way about your car, which is why you will happily bid away for this wonderful item. Win this bid and get your car beautifully detailed from tip to tail by George Mann. Detailing does not apply to SUVs or trucks, and must be done by June 30, 2010. Courtesy of DCCF supporter George Mann. L-13 Darth Vader Helmet We all know one. A man or woman, seemingly normal, with no obvious obsessions, but who upon further inspection has a secret passion. A passion that drives them to scour the blogs and websites for anything Star Wars! Autographed by James Earl Jones, the actor who propelled Darth Vader into infamy, this helmet will be won for that special someone who will cherish it as if they were Luke Skywalker or Princess Leah themselves. Compliments of James Earl Jones and Horatio Productions. L-14 Windsor Rocker, Circa 1820 While the rocking chair is as American as apple-pie, its origins are less clear. Adding the skates (or rockers) to the bottom of chairs probably evolved from the cradle and the rocking horse. Apparently, however, nobody thought to apply the idea to furniture for adults until the eighteenth century. The Windsor Rocker, or bow-spindle-backed chair, seems to have originated near Windsor castle in England in the early to mid 1700’s, but it was the American Windsor chair, built principally in Philadelphia, that became known worldwide. Bid to win this historic piece of furniture, and you’ll not regret making it part of your legacy. Generously donated by DCCF supporter Judy Milne. L-15 Wappingers Creek at Cary Institute Pastel Painting It’s been a hard week at the office, and all you want to go is go for a hike to clear your head, but sadly there’s a mound of work on your desk calling for your attention. Then you turn your gaze to the wall, take a deep breath, smile, and are instantly relaxed as you look at your beautiful pastel painting of Wappingers Creek at the Cary Institute. After a 45 year career as an acclaimed architect, DCC’s art consultant Frank Munzer has turned his talents to pastel painting. A student of the Woodstock school of art, Frank studied under such noted Hudson Valley artists as Christina Debarry and Eric Angeloch, and has exhibited in juried shows at Kent Association Gallery, Barrett Art Center and Hobe Sound Art League Gallery. This beautiful painting is sure to become a prized family heirloom. Courtesy of DCCF supporter Frank Munzer. L-16 Dutchess Golf & Country Club – Two Foursomes Two/Choice – You see him take out his three wood, walk to the teebox, address his ball, and proceed to make a perfect 200 yard drive smack down the center of the fairway. You watch him do this, all the while wondering how on earth he got so much better since last season! Allow me to tell you: Last year, he bid on and won two foursomes at Dutchess Golf & Country Club, which allowed him to play on a magnificently challenging 18-hole course that was designed by a member of the famous Park family of Scotland. This year, if you have anything to say about it, it’ll be you and three of your friends that will be the ones who improve their golfing skills. Courtesy of Dutchess Golf & Country Club. L-17 Three-hour Sunset Cruise You pull into the marina, open your car door and take in the exciting sights around you, inhaling deeply the sweet smell of the open water. Walking towards the dock your heart is beating a bit faster as you look at all of the pretty boats you are passing, wondering which one is his. Then, you see her… and your heart actually skips a beat. She’s stunning. George and Linda are there, smiles on their faces, holding out their hands to help you aboard their beautifully appointed vessel. For the remainder of your evening you are treated like royalty as they take you on the finest Hudson River cruise you’ll ever experience. Bid alone or together with another lucky couple to secure an evening to remember. Cruises will take place on a weekday evening at Plum Cove (south of Newburgh near Cornwall) and will include light refreshments and soft drinks. Valid from May 15, 2010 to August 31, 2010. Generously donated by George Mann and DCCF Board Member Linda Melton Mann. L-18 Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society – Two books of tickets (each book containing two tickets for each of their five shows) If music is the wine that fills the cup of silence, then your cup is about to run over! This is the 30th year that the Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society will be presenting world-class chamber musicians to enthusiastic audiences in the Mid-Hudson Valley. All Concerts are presented in Rhinebeck at The Church of the Messiah, an 1897 Gothic edifice with superb acoustics, Courtesy of the Rhinebeck Chamber Music Society. L-19 Half-day Mushroom Foray I’ve heard that falling in love is like eating mushrooms, you never know if it’s the real thing until it’s too late. Wouldn’t it be nice, then, to have a man like Bill Bakaitis to help us discover love as well as we can, under his direction, discover mushrooms! Be the lucky recipient of this bid and get your hiking shoes ready to go exploring in Hudson Valley to find what local mushrooms are available to us, and what we can (or can’t) do with them. Note: Time and location are to be mutually suitable. Courtesy of DCC Faculty Emeriti Bill Bakaitis. L-20 Marist Football, Women’s and Men’s Basketball Basketball is a sport that we all have memories of. Whether it was playing HORSE in the backyard when you were a kid, or working on your lay-ups when you played JV ball, we all have ties to the sport. Support local Hudson Valley athletics by winning these four tickets each to see Marist’s football team for their last game on October 31st and Marist’s men’s and women’s basketball teams for one game each in the 2009-2010 season. Coincidentally the Marist Department of Athletics will begin the 2009-10 basketball seasons this very night, and second-year men’s head coach Chuck Martin and eighth-year women’s head coach Brian Giorgis return to once again lead their teams to victory. The women’s team has advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times in the last six years! Become part of history by winning this item and being witness to another great year of Marist athletics. Football voucher to be redeemed at the McCann center by October 29th for the game on the 31st, and the basketball vouchers must be redeemed by November 6th for any home game this season. Generously donated by DCCF supporter Tim Massie. L-21 NY Knicks Tickets The New York Knicks announced their 2009-10 schedule in what promises to be an exciting season for Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari and the rest of the orange and blue under Head Coach Mike D’Antoni. Here’s your chance to take in the game with a fellow Knicks enthusiast on November 18th when the Knicks play Indiana in famous Madison Square Garden. Courtesy of Time Warner Cable. L-23 Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, dinner at Cathryn’s Tuscan Grill, tickets to Boscobel, Hudson House An overnight in Hudson House with a river view room is a treat not to be missed. While enjoying your time in Cold Spring we have provided you with all the great food and entertainment you will need. Even though Shakespeare wrote that expectation is the root of all heartache, you’ll find him to be very wrong in this instance. The Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival, performing at Boscobel, celebrates its 23rd season with performances of Pericles, Much Ado about Nothing, and the ever popular Complete Works. Win this item and you and a friend will enjoy a Friday evening performance of the Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival and, because we like you so much, we’ll even treat you to dinner at Cathryn’s in Cold Spring beforehand. The New York Times can be quoted as noting that someone is cooking with intelligence at Cathryn’s, and we’re confident you’ll agree. Round off your Southern Dutchess experience with 2 Boscobel tickets for you and your friend to return to enjoy the grounds at another time. Courtesy of Hudson House, Hudson Valley Shakespeare Company, Cathryn’s and Boscobel. L-24 Week in Florida with 4 Disney one-day park-hopper passes You and I both know it, so don't bother trying to deny anything: you have an ongoing conversation going with the chipmunk who lives by the stairs, and your friends truly believe that Disney mice dress you in the mornings. Couple that with the fact that you are desperate to visit with Shamu and Flipper, and it's clear to see that you need to get yourself to Orlando, and FAST! Win this item so you and four of your friends can enjoy the luxurious accommodations at Westgate Town Center in Orlando from June 6-13, 2010.
