Welcome
Logan Art Gallery
Logan Art Gallery celebrates the diverse
practices of visual artists, craft workers
and designers and presents a dynamic
exhibition program for residents and
visitors to the region. Exhibitions feature
touring exhibitions, local artists, visiting
artists and works from the Logan Art
Collection.
An extensive range of free public
programs is offered and includes guided
tours, practical workshops, special
events and artist talks. A dedicated
Young Peoples Gallery showcases
exhibitions for young people or by
young people and provides fun,
interactive activities for younger visitors.
Logan Art Gallery also promotes
locally created contemporary gifts
and collectables that are available for
purchase from the gallery store.

Logan Art Gallery staff will provide free
tours to interested groups booking
at least a week in advance of their
visit. Groups can also book practical

Kay Lawrence: Material matters
Scanlines
Kay Lawrence explores the relationship
between nature and culture, and
includes textiles and digital art as a
metaphor for the old and the new.
This major national survey exhibition
Scanlines, from dLux MediaArts (NSW),
is a comprehensive group exhibition
that surveys the heritage of new media
art in Australia since the 1980s. This
project has been assisted by the
Australian Government through the
Australia Council for the Arts, its arts
funding and advisory body.
Merri Randell and Chris Denaro:
Uncanny nature
In Uncanny nature, Merri Randell and
Chris Denaro use animation and surreal
photography to make us rethink what
we understand about nature.
Andrea de Rien: The patented field
Beenleigh artist Andrea de Rien has
created a series of sculptures based on
natural forms for The patented field to
explore how genetic modification and
private companies influence the world’s
food crops.
Animation fixation
Showcasing a series of fun and quirky
animations by tertiary students, on
display in the Young Peoples Gallery.

Wayne Budge: eScapes
Paul Eves has been working with his
old vinyl record collection, using them
as plates to make prints.
An exhibition by Tanah Merah artist,
Wayne Budge, showcasing his
landscape photographs using the
digital technique known as High
Dynamic Range (HDR) photography.
Workshop wonders XIV
A special selection of student works
chosen from the Logan Art Gallery
workshop program. This 14th annual
exhibition highlights the gallery’s
workshop program, which is an integral
part of the visual arts education and
cultural experience in the City of Logan.

Lecia is a versatile musician and a sought
after guitarist. 2014 and 2015 saw Lecia
play through Italy, London, Spain, Hong
Kong and Queensland. She has released
an EP, an album, a live DVD, 2 singles
and soon a new EP (Per Te), which was
completed in Rome, Italy in 2015. Lecia
will be doing a solo performance, where
she utilizes the loop pedal, looping beats,
bass, guitar and vocals. She plays a
variety of styles with different bands, but
as a solo artist, is more known for her
blues/rock guitar driven performances.
Cath Mundy and Jay Turner celebrate
20 years of collaboration in this intimate
concert of original songs old and new,
including items from Billy Buckett and
Under This Sky.

Lecia Louise is supported by Regional
Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is
a Queensland Government through Arts
Queensland and Logan City Council partnership
to support local arts and culture.
Mundy-Turner’s story-telling takes
audiences on a spine-tingling journey,
featuring beautiful close vocal harmonies,
fiddle, guitar, piano, ukulele and percussion.
Formed in 1995, the duo travelled
internationally performing hundreds of gigs,
releasing seven albums and supporting
acts such as The Corrs and Fairport
Convention.
Settling in Logan in 2007, they are the
musical force behind three community
choirs, creators of award-winning musicaltheatre production Billy Buckett, and in
2015, were integral creative-team members
for Queensland Music Festival’s Under This
Sky – Logan’s Musical Celebration.

Paper making for preschool age
children
Beenleigh artist Andrea de Rien has
created a series of sculptures based
on natural forms using a variety of
natural materials including paper. Have
fun making handmade papers from
recycled pulp. Trap, encase and layer
a variety of natural materials, including
leaves and petals.

with clay figures
Animation fixation showcases a series
of fun and quirky animations by tertiary

APT8 Kids on Tour @ Logan Art
Gallery
APT8 Kids on Tour is a program
of artworks and activities specially
developed by the Children’s Art
Centre at Queensland Art Gallery |
Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA),
and artists exhibiting in the 8th Asia
Pacific Triennial of Contemporary Art
(APT8). APT8 Kids on Tour enables
children to experience and explore
contemporary art from the Asia Pacific
region through a range of hands-on
drawing and making activities. Kids
on Tour is offered as a free program
to regional Queensland communities
through QAGOMA’s Regional Services
department, and generously supported
by The Tim Fairfax Family Foundation.

Acrylics
Margaret Kirman from Chroma Acrylics
will demonstrate how to get the most
from your acrylic paints and mediums.
Experiment with a range of paints and
mediums and create your own artwork
inspired by nature.

dLux MediaArts Director’s Floor talk:
SCANLINES
Join dLux MediaArts Director, Tara
Morelos. This major national survey
exhibition Scanlines, from dLux
MediaArts (NSW) is the first of its kind: a

Analogue mono printing with artists
Paul Eves and Madeleine Lacey
Manipulating time, focussing on
exhibiting artist Daniel Crooks
Artist Paul Eves has been working with
his old vinyl record collection, using
them as plates to make prints. Join
artists Paul and Madeleine and create
one-off mono prints using old items of
interest. Use A3 perspex sheets and
Dutch etching paper to create your
artworks.
This in-gallery workshop is led by dLux
facilitators and is inspired by the works
of exhibiting artist Daniel Crooks.
After shooting their own footage,
participants will be taught simple
tips and techniques for manipulating
footage with regards to time. This
includes slowing down, speed up,
pause and reverse. Participants will
discuss the unique nature of new
media art in relationship to the ability to
use time as a tool.

Media Arts Education: Stop motion
animation, focussing on exhibiting
artists Kathy Smith + Leon
Cmielewski
The dLux MediaArt National touring
exhibition Scanlines includes
educational modules which are held
in conjunction with this exciting
exhibition. This in-gallery workshop is
led by dLux facilitators and is inspired
by the works of exhibiting artists Kathy
Smith and Leon Cmielewski. Beginning
with a discussion about what is
animation, participants will be taught
how to create an animation through
drawing and on an iPad. They will be
taught tips and tricks for generating
content, capturing stills and editing to
produce a stop motion animation.

Logan Art Gallery: Creative in
Residence (CiR)
Story-telling and painting motifs
with artist Missy Knox
Visit Logan Art Gallery’s Creative in
residence (CiR), Sandra Conte. Sandra will
be in residence at the Gallery during April
and May developing her project ‘Creative
communing with (stingless native) bees.
Indigenous artists have long been an
important voice for their communities
and have been instrumental in telling
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
stories. Join story teller and artist Missy
Knox, listen to her stories and create a
painting, using traditional and nontraditional use of motifs.
The CiR is supported through the Regional Arts
Development Fund a partnership between the
Queensland Government and Logan City Council
to support local arts and culture.

Finger Rangoli: sand art for children

If you’re a camera novice and are
interested in learning to take better
shots, then this “Photography
workshop for beginners” is designed
just for you.
Learn the art of finger Rangoli, a
traditional Indian folk art created to
mark special occasions and bring good
luck. Use brightly coloured sand to
create highly decorative patterns with
your fingers.
Photographer Wayne Budge can help
you understand all those buttons on
your camera, as well as teach you
about ISO, shutter speed, aperture,
exposure, and explain how all of these
things affect your photographs. Get
off the “green” setting and learn to be
more creative with the different modes
on your camera, as well as how to use
manual settings.
It doesn’t matter whether you have a
small compact camera or a DSLR, our
workshop will help you get the most
out of your camera.

Art plays a major role in capturing and replicating the state
of human society and the natural environment in which
society exists. Join artists Merri Randell and Chris Denaro
in a tour of their exhibition Uncanny nature and artist
Andrea de Rien talk about her work, The patented field.
This will be followed by a panel discussion with the artists who will be joined by Andy
Grodecki, President of BADCAP, Executive Member of Queensland Conservation Council
and Founding Member LACA. The panel will explore how art can provide a personal
response to the issues facing the planet and how art can be used as a tool to illustrate
and communicate a vision for the society we would like in the future, facilitated by
Donald McKenzie, Acting Program Leader, Sustainable City, Logan City Council.

Arts grants available
Logan City Council Council is
accepting grant applications for
the Regional Arts Development Fund
(RADF) from Tuesday 22 March. RADF
supports professional and emerging
professional artists and artsworkers
to practise their art, for and with
communities, resulting in mutual development of the
professional artists, arts workers and communities in Logan.
Arts professionals from all art forms including dance, music,
design, museum and cultural heritage, new media, visual
arts, writing and theatre are encouraged to apply.

Art and Dementia Program
A discussion-based tour of works of art to provide intellectual
stimulation and social inclusion for people with dementia and
their companions.
Once a month, Logan Art Gallery offers a discussionbased tour of works of art for people with dementia
and their carers.
Facilitated by our trained volunteers, the
participants are encouraged to contribute
knowledge, engage in interpretation, express
emotions and recall memories. Involvement
in this nationwide program has been
shown to increase well-being and the
quality of life for participants.
