The Friends of Herefordshire
Museums and Arts awards
small grants to museums across
the county as well as supporting
the arts more generally, such as art
exhibitions and concerts.
Recent grants have allowed the
conservation of a late eighteenth
century painting of Hereford from
the Wye, by an unknown artist,
and of a painting of the Gallipoli
landings at Herefordshire Light
Infantry Museum; the digitisation
of works by Joshua Cristall in the
Hereford Museum Collection; and
the restoration of a seventeenth
century Commonwealth seal in
Hereford Cathedral Library and
Archive.
We helped fund Hereford Cider
Museum’s new exhibition Pomona
which includes important historical
books on fruit cultivation and
identification. The original exquisite
watercolours for the Herefordshire
Pomona and a fine portrait of the
seventeenth century diarist John
Evelyn, which has been loaned to
the Cider Museum, are also on
display.
The Friends award annual prizes
at Hereford College of Arts and
Hereford Contemporary Craft
Fair and a bursary for books and
resources for a local art student.
