DIRECTOR’S MESSAGE
Where have all the Flowers
Gone?

Director’s
Spring Newsletter 2014

The short answer to
that question is they
haven’t arrived yet; but
fear not, we are more
than happy to offer you
a proper primavera
celebration of nature’s
glorious and colourful
creations! If your own
crocuses and daffodils
are still struggling to
wake up and greet you
after one of the most
brutal winters in recorded history, who
can blame them?
While spring is not
quite in the air yet, you
can happily find it
waiting for you at Art
Works Art Gallery.
Thankfully, we have
some beautiful and
brilliant flower power
coming your way that
will more than make
up for the dreary grayness of winter’s wake.
Artist and Art Works
instructor Mike
Goodge treats us to his
very first solo show at
Art Works Art Gallery,
timely titled Floral
Danica Loncar,
Director/Curator
Paintings. Mike’s
paintings are a refreshing and unique synchronization of something in between, or
rather beyond, Art
Nouveau and Pop Art.
Growing up in both
Britain and the United
States, Goodge’s work
borrows from and
builds on numerous
practitioners as diverse
as British Arts and
Crafts icon William
Morris to the American pop art master Roy
Lichtenstein. The result of this magical
marriage is an intriguing and unique hybrid
of pure design and
playful modernism.
As exhibition curator,
I had the pleasure and
privilege of collaborating with Mike on this
show which is scheduled to run May 8 to
June 5, 2014, with an
opening reception the
evening of Thursday,
May 8th from 6-8 pm.
We are very excited to
be installing the exhibition soon, sure to be
a sublime spring feast
for the eyes and certain
to brighten spirits!
Hope to see you all
there, happy spring!

About Mike Goodge:
Mike Goodge was born in Northampton at
Massachusetts to a British father and an
American mother and moved to Devon
southwest of England when he was three
years old. Mike completed High School at
King's School (founded by King Henry

Mike earned an A.A. degree at the Palm

finally became a Canadian citizen on St.
Valentine's Day 2012, which speaks to his
love of both Canadian life partner Nadia
and Canada his adopted home. Mike currently teaches at Art Works Art School
and has also taught art classes and workshops at various schools and community
centers for the City of Orlando and Toronto
for more than twelve years. His paintings
have been exhibited in the Orlando Museum of Art and several galleries in Palm

Family Days
Join us on Sunday May 4th from 2-4 pm for our next Family Day:
Create your own lavish bouquet of hand-made painted paper flowers and create drawings based on the beautiful work
of painter Mary Cassatt. Family Sundays at Art Works offer an opportunity for families to make art together; new
themes each month so children and adults can make exciting and creative fine art and craft activities.
Recent Family Days with Jennifer Falvy included
the following:
On Sunday February 9th there was a fantastic
turnout at Art Works with participants creating
their own pop-up valentine cards in our

Mandate of Neighbourhood Gallery: Sharing Art for the Beautification of Our World. This is a safe
place to offer your works for sale, to have a meaningful dialogue with others about how you want
to make the world a better place through your art. As long as the work meets the criteria we will
endeavor to include it as part of a group or solo show. This Gallery practices inclusiveness, and
welcomes all artists of all ages, all races, all economic background, all sexual orientation and all
religion who desire to make and show their art. The Curator endeavors to make the art shows connect with the messages in the Services for the months they are being shown.
