What is The Bisbee 1000?

A 4.5 mile race course comprised of
1,033 stairs connected by winding roads
and 9 stair cases – the event offers a
competitive challenge while
simultaneously providing a tour of
historic Old Bisbee
An internationally known event that has
been featured in numerous publications
and media venues including the Wall St.
Journal and Runner’s World
The most unique outdoor fitness
challenge in the U.S.
Why Does Our Event Work?

In 1989 stair climb machines were a new
craze hitting gyms and home markets
creating a 2.5M industry.
We identified and capitalized on the
relationship between a current fitness
trend and existing features unique to our
community – Stairs!
We promote the history of the stairs and
the town simultaneously. The stairs were
originally paths used by minors to get from
their homes to work; the paths became
wooden stairs, the stairs became concrete
roads and permanent infrastructure.
