5th Edition of the MRC Argenteuil
mayors’ golf tournament:
Swinging for the profit of amateur sport and physical activity
achute, Wednesday July 6th, 2011 –
Lannounce
The MRC of Argenteuil is happy to
that the 5th edition of the
mayors’ golf tournament will take
place on August 17th, 2011 at the
Lachute Golf Course, under the
honourable chair Mr. Gilbert D.
Ayers, secretary-treasurer of
Ayers Limited. “The Foundation for amateur sport and
physical activity is very
important to me and I am
very honoured to be the
spokesperson
for
this
5th edition” says Mr. Ayers.
The members of the organizing
committee have been hard at work over
the last several weeks to ensure that this
edition will be as entertaining and
successful as in the past. The latter
promises once again, a most memorable
day for their participants. The
tournament which will have a shot gun
format will start at 10:30 am. The ticket
price is $175 per person, which includes
a brunch, golf cart and dinner. It is
possible to join the event for dinner only
at the cost of $60.
The regulars of the mayors’ tournament
will be happy to know that the auction
will be back this year, and risks to be,
once again, the event of the evening. The
buyers of the auction items will surely be
the envy of all with items such as:
- An Alouettes jersey
autographed by the
star quarterback
Anthony Calvillo;
- A downhill ski day with
none other than Julien
Cousineau, Olympic
downhiller from the
MRC Argenteuil;
- Three excellent pairs
of tickets
for an
exciting game
between the
Montreal
Canadiens and the
Boston Bruins;
- An Edmonton Oilers jersey
autographed by one of the best players
and leader of the National Hockey
League, Mark Messier;
- Two pairs of tickets for the
Céline Dion show in
Las Vegas, including
return air fare.
The Foundation for amateur sport and
physical activity aims to collect money
in order to redistribute it within the
Argenteuil community. Thanks to the
players and advertisers who contribute
year after year to this major event, many
organizations and athletes from the
region have benefitted from financial aid
in order to pursue their activities in
connection to their sport. The fund is
also part of the program ”My health in
mind”, which aims to improve the living
conditions of the Argenteuil population,
notably by preventing chronic disease.
In the first four editions of the golf
tournament, the following sums were
collected by the MRC Argenteuil:
2007:
14 250$
2008:
16 700$
2009:
18 750$
2010:
33 554$
Although last year’s edition was
exceptional, the organizers are allowing
themselves to believe that they will
collect an equivalent sum this year. Let’s
admit it, when we speak about amateur
sport and physical activity, ambition
becomes the key to success!
The whole population of Argenteuil and
its neighbouring regions are invited to
participate in large numbers. To purchase
tickets, please address yourself to Mrs.
Manon Brisson at 450 566-0530,
extension 2305, or by e-mail at
[email protected].

THE MAYOR’S WORD
In the July edition of the Express we
printed an update on the dams of lakes
Solar, Caroline and Barron. I am as
frustrated as you are on the progress and
time restraints of this project. As you all
know Gore does not own these dams and
any work that needs to be done to the
dams must be approved by many
different government agencies and
ministries.
already been made. In order to better
inform our residents, I have invited the
city of Lachute, the Centre Hydrique du
Québec, the MRC, the Ministry of
Sustainable Development, Environment
and Parks and Mr. Whissel, our MNA, to
hold an information evening to help our
residents better understand the timeline
and procedures for this project.
The only decision Gore had in this
project was whether or not we should
make an important investment to return
the water levels of theses lakes to their
historic levels; and this decision has
As soon as I receive confirmation from
all the different agencies, I will send out
a notice for the meeting. I invite all
concerned residents to attend this most
important information session.
FUND RAISING
2ND EDITION OF PÉDALONS « à fonds » WITH SAMEDIVÉLO
FOR THE PROFIT OF THE ARGENTEUIL HOSPITAL FOUNDATION
The Argenteuil Hospital Foundation is
organizing, jointly with SamediVélo, the
2nd edition of Pédalons « à fonds »
scheduled for Saturday September 17th,
2011. The activity will take place rain or
shine. Thanks to the partnership program
put into place this year, the organizers
are confidant that they will be able to
double the $10 500 collected last year.
Richard Larocque, responsible of
SamediVélo’s activities and in charge of
the logistics for the day, explained that
each participant chooses their challenge
and objective to fulfill. The safety loop of
30 km can be ridden several times
according to the chosen challenge: 15,
30, 60, 90, 120 or 150 km; the starting
line will be from the Saint-Andréd’Argenteuil School (1 Legault Street),
at three different times: 8:00 a.m.,
9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. Once their
challenges are chosen, the cyclists will
be sponsored by their family and friends.
Refreshment points will be established at
every 10 km, offering water and fruit.
New this year, l’Atelier du Sport will be
offering a repair service on site. The
Sureté du Québec should be a part of the
event with their own cycling team. The
accumulated amount will be revealed at
3:00 p.m. Richard Larocque adds “you
can pedal alone or as a team and if you
register before August 24th, you will
receive a t-shirt commemorating
Pédalons « à fonds » on the day of the
event.” He suggests that you or your
team enter as soon as possible by calling
450 562-3761 extension 7224 or 7232.
The flyers as well as the sponsor sheet
and circuit map are available for
download from the following website:
www.csssargenteuil.qc.ca (foundation
tab); it will also be available at the
SamediVélo starting table and at the
AHF.

MUNICIPAL INFORMATIONS
SEPTIC TANK EMPTYING –
IT’S SERIOUS - REMINDER
We wish to inform you that fines have
already been distributed to several
owners who did not proceed with the
emptying of their septic tank within the
prescribed delays. Permanent residents
must do so every 2 years and seasonal
residents every 4 years. In order to avoid
unwanted fines, we ask that you conform
to the regulation.
SHORELINE REVEGETATION
REGULATIONS - REMINDER
Over the last several years the
municipality of Gore and the MRC of
Argenteuil have worked very hard at
preserving our lakes and restoring our
shorelines. We are not alone in this effort
as the majority of municipalities in the
Laurentians have recognized the
environmental seriousness and the
potential consequences our actions
have on our lakes, most notably bluegreen algae.
It was with this in mind that the MRC
adopted regulations in 2007 limiting the
maximum amount of shoreline cutting
that could be done to a 5 meter access.
While the majority of our residents
followed this regulation, it has become
apparent that some people have
continued to cut trees and shrubs as they
crop up while leaving the grass. This
completely defeats the purpose of the
regulation. By providing shade to keep
the water cooler and providing a root
system to absorb toxins and reduce
erosion, trees play a critical part in the
health of our lakes.
With this in mind, at the June council
meeting the municipality adopted a new
by-law requiring that all shorelines be
replanted within the next 2 years. What
does this for you? For the majority of you
it will have very little effect. The replanting area is required in the same 10 meters
from the lake that the no cutting area is
already in effect. It requires that the
three layers of indigenous vegetation be
planted: grasses, shrubs and trees. If
you have already been following the
existing regulations, these layers of
vegetation should already naturally have
started. If you haven’t, there should be
some significant growth in the next two
years. We will continue to provide free

trees every summer to help boost your
regrowth. Theoretically, this change of
by-law will not cost you a penny.
The municipal inspectors will be taking
pictures of all the shorelines from the
lake this summer for comparison at the
end of the two years. It should be noted
that the regulation on shoreline cutting,
including grass, has not changed and
there will be fines issued for those that
are not in compliance.
A copy of the regulations is available
for consultation at the municipal office.
It includes a list of plants suitable
for shorelines.
