In August, Moonen Yachts delivered the fully custom Sofia, whose 137-foot LOA makes her the larges I
roegayacht ever constructed at the Dutch shipyard. She was builtfora repeat Moonen elient who is
already rnaving her across the Atlantic Ocean for her U.S. preruiere at the Fort Lauderdale International
Baat Show.
Sofia is a cross between a modern rnatoryacht and an explorer yacbt. Her owner bas worldwide cruising
ambitions, having previouslyowned a Moonen 84 and a Moonen 97 that he cruised aboard extensively.
He a lso wanled Sofia to be the first yacht of her size to be able to carry a three-person submersible, which
stows on the swim platform.
Originally, the owner wanled a two-person submersible, but partway througb construction on Sofia, he
changed bis mind and went for the bigger eraf!. Tbis was in 2009 and 2010, when submersibles werejust
beginning to appear on far larger superyachts and incorporating them into a build was a new prospect for
justabout aoy shipyard . The owner says Moonen handled the challenge with aplomb.

"My yacht was ex-tended and a new crane designed and installed to allow the launeb and retrieval of the
submarine," he staled in a press release. "Although the alterations were made wben the yacht was already
at the first stages of construction, the yard handled the complex modifications with minimal delay."
Other superyacbt-level features aboard Sofia include zero-speed stabilizers, a military-grade satellite
communications system and a thermal camera in the top mast for easier nighttime and shallow-water
cruising.

'Elegance' van , 'I<leine' jachten van Moonen

Scheepswerf De Boarnstream in J irnsum
heeft haar modellenlijn uitgebreid met
de Baarncruiser 'Eiegance'-serie, leverbaar in sedan en flying-bridge uitvoering
(1300/1S00/1700). De Friese werfnam bij
dit ontwerp een grote binnenruimte op salon niveau, gecombineerd met smaakvolle
styling en lijnenspel als uitgangspunt. Het
model werd ontwikkeld in samenwerking
met Trimm design .
Door de steile boeg heeft de Elegance
een extra lange waterlijn, wat volgens de
werf resulteert in meer volume en beter
vaargedrag. Het uitzicht op het salondeck
is door de forse raampartijen bijna 360
graden . Ook in staa ll everbaar in een sem iplaning uitvoering (kruissnelheid circa 1S
knopen , top 22 knopen). De steile boeg en
diepe V-romp zijn speciaal ontworpen voor
toepassing van de IPS-systemen van Volvo
Penta.

Twee nieuwe
modellen
Rapsody Yachts
In samenwerking met de Haagse jachtdesigner Nick Mezas heeft Moonen Yachts uit Den
Bosch een serie 'kleinere' jachten ontwikkeld, van 18, 20 en 24 meter lengte . De ontwerpen van Mezas en de eerste orde r di e daarvoor is gep laatst, bevestigt volgens Moonen
de aantrekkingskracht op een nieuwe generatie bootbezitters. Er vindt een uitgebreide
analyse plaats van de systemen en uitrusting. Zo zal bijvoorbeeld maar één anker worden
geïnstalleerd , in plaats van
de voor Moonen gebruikelijke twee, waardoor ook
maar een ankerlier nodig is .
De styling is in de ogen van
Moonen wat agressiever dan
de eerdere door Moonen gebouwde jachten. Met Volvo
IPS voortstuwing kunnen
deze jachten een snelhe id
van 22 knopen bereiken .

Mulder 94 Voyager
MulderShipyard in Zoeterwoude-Rijndijk werkt aan de afbouw van een Mulder 94 Voyager, een custom built aluminium motorjacht van 28,6s meter lang en 6,90 meter breed.
De stijl wordt omschreven als 'klassiek modern'. Frank Laupman van het Nederlandse
bureau Omega Architects ontwierp het schip. Laupman ontwierp al eerder de interieurs
van de Mulder 98 Flybridge en de 'Built by Mulder' Bellagio. Het jacht wordt gebouwd
onder RI NA classificatie en is zeer geschikt voor open zee. De na va l architect is Vripack
Naval Architects . Met twee Caterpillar C18 motoren van elk nso pk kan de 94 Voyager een
topsnelheid bereiken van circa
20 knopen. Silent Line uit Gorinchem verzorgt de thermische
en akoestische isolatie. De 94
Voyager wordt gebouwd op de
nieuwe locatie van Mulder Shipyard in Zoeterwoude-Rijndij k. De
op levering is in mei 2014.

Rapsody Yachts uit Heeg bouwt aan twee
luxe motorboten. De 9,68 m lange R32
(afgebeeld), met een open cockpit, kan met
een 330 pk 6-cil ind er Volvo Penta 3S knopen varen. In het vooronder een tweepersoons bed, douche en toilet. De bijna elf
meter lan ge R38 kan worden bestuurd met
een joystick. Twee Volvo Penta's van elk
300 pk zijn goed voor een topsnelheid van
meer dan 40 knopen. Naast een tweepersoons bed is er in het vooronder een royale
douche en toilet.
Huisman Dart 8o: twee gezichten
Op de Monaco Boat Show onthulde Royal Hui sman eind september de Dart 8o, een
nieuw ontwerp voor een 8o meter lang jacht, met twee gezichten. Het kan uitgevoerd
worden als motor- of als zeiljacht. De vorm is geïnspireerd op dolfijnen en walvissen. Het
ontwerp is van het Britse bureau Andrew Winch Designs, dat al SS superjachten op zijn
naam heeft.

Moonen Shipyards
A new custom-series of24-metre motoryachts will be built by Moonen Shipyards
in cooperation with designer Nick Mezas. Moonen Shipyards devcloped a new
semi-series in response to the yard's elient sceking. The motor yachts in this ncw
series will be available in the sizes of 18, 20 and 24 roetres length. With the new
series, Moonen Shipyards wants to appeal to a new group of younger cuslomers,
handling a lower price and smaller size that is enhanced by a different design thao
one would normally see on a Moonen yacht. 'Ihe first order of a 24-metre yacht
coofirms that it has been a good choice. The yacht will be fitted with Volvo IPS
propulsion and have a top speed of 22 knots. Moreover, the IPS contiguration
leaves lots of space free in the forward section for four tabins. An open-plan
layout in the saloon/wheelhouse area will en ha nee the social aspect of the yacht,
which is likely to be helmed by the owner and bis friends and family.
Sigur Ros, a Malaysian pipelay contractor, bas awarded
heavy lift company Jumbo with a new contract for the
transportation and installation of 126 gravity anchor
spreads in water deptbs up to 1,400 metre. The HLV
Fairplayer will be used for the job, deploying the vessel's
900 t mast eranes to load the matcrials on board. The
anchor spreads, which will consist of a 230 t gravity
anchor, tether wire and subsea buoy wiJl be used to moor
a pipeline with a 1,600 millimetres diameter, running 80
kilometres from Turkey to Northern Cyprus. The pipeline,
in spans of approximately 500 metres, will be suspended,
floating at a depth of approximately 250 metres. The lether
ropes, 116 millimetres in diameter, will be cut to varying
lengtbs to match water deptbs along the pipeline's route,
up to 1,400 metres. Towards the tops of the tethcr wires
the sub-sea buoys, eight roetres in length, three meh·es
in diameter and weighing 17 t each, will be positioned to
moor the pipeline.

has launched the 42-metre custom
rnatoryacht Sofia for a repeat dient.
As well as being the largest superyacht
launched to date by the yard, Sofia
also features a three-seat submarine, a
wide range of other technica! innovations, and outstanding noise & vibration
attenuation.
Sofia also brings tagether some of
the finest creative minds and hands in
the Dutch superyacht industry. Designed
by René van der Velden, Stolk Marimecs
was responsible for the complex naval
architecture and engineering. Frank
Pieterse and Marilyn Bos de Vaal from
Art-Line then went on to develop the
remarkable interior, which features
a wide range of genuinely innovative
features. The experts at Inoferro had
their work cut out to incorporate the
wealth of stainless steel detailing, as
did the woodworkers and many other
craftsmen across all disciplines from
Moonen Shipyards.
Having bought his first GRP
rnatoryacht in 1994 and sailed several
other vessels around the 80-foot range
as well as an X-612 MKII sailing yacht
(which he still owns today), Sofla's owner
first teamed up with Moonen almost a
decade ago. "In 2004 I embarked on a
quest to find a high quality rnatoryacht
that would allow me to cruise the world
in comfort togetherwith the sailyacht;' he
explains. "My research led me to Moonen
Shipyards, where I purchased the brandnew Moonen 84 Sofia (now Eleonora). I
then commissioned a new Moonen 97 to
meet my personal requirements, which
was duly launched in 2008."

THE MONACO YACHT SHOW IS UNIQUE. More than any other
event, it has come to he an inlegral part of the character of the host
city. The world now equates Monaco with superyachts, and rightly so.
The city comes alive during the show, with press conferences, parties
on superyachts and parlies in hotels and bars giving the Principality a
festive vigour.
Superyacht builders, designers, naval architects, brokers and
charterers are all out in force for this, the biggest gathering of buyers and
in dustry representatives worldwide. Tomark this year's event, organisers
of the Monaco Yacht Show have addcd a ncw superyacht conference to
the list of events in the city, due to take place on the 24'\ ju st ahead of
the actual start of the show.
The show itself features a number of spectacular and recently launched
yachts that will have visitors feeling a little awestruck. First up is the first
Lurssen superyacht to go on displayinsome time, the 88-metre Quatroelle
(featured in this issue), as well as the spectacular new flagship from
Heesen, the 65-metre Galaetica Star, the first in the new fast displacement
series from the Dutch buildér. Benetti will have on display the 55-metre
Ocean Pamdise, builtfora Singaporean owner, while Holland Yachtbouw's
magnificent J-Ciass Rainbow will be on hand again this year. Sailing
enthusiasts will also have the new 125-footer from Oyster Marine,
Twilight, on display. Finally, Italian superyacht yard Perini Navi will be
premieringtheir groundbreaking ncw 60-metre, Seahmvk.
Fans of high quality tenders will also have much to look at, as the
Monaco Yacht Show tends to have the best of the best irfdesign and
performance on display in superyacht toys and tenders. Submersibles

a transom-mounted and deployed C-Quester from Uboatworx. That

observers. Triton Subs of the US will he showcasing its design for a
private submcrsible able to reach depths of 11 ,000 metres- the decpest
point in Earth's oceans.
Visitors will also be able to survey everything from the latest AV
technology for superyachts to the latest linens for their guest cabins.
