This outdoor art program, Art in Public Places, is currently in its 17th year and has become one of the City’s premier cultural events taking place throughout the Downtown and in the Stamford Town Center. Since its inception, Art in Public Places has grown in size and prominence, providing major works of outdoor sculpture for all to enjoy. This year’s exhibit It’s Reigning Cats & Dogs, presented by the Stamford Downtown Special Services District, features 40 oversized, originally designed and painted fiberglass cats and dogs on display on the streets and parks of Stamford Downtown. It demonstrates the extraordinary commitment to art that is part of the Stamford culture. Thanks to the talent of 32 artists who have magically transformed white fiberglass animal forms into works of art full of creativity and humor and the generosity of patrons of the arts such as Greenfield Partners, Malkin Properties, SAC Capital Advisors, Seaboard Properties, Stamford Marriott Hotel & Spa and numerous other companies, this annual public art exhibit will delight Stamfordites and visitors throughout the summer. This is a summer event you won’t want to miss. Take some time to enjoy the city and see the sculptures in Stamford Downtown. The exhibit will be on display from June through the end of August. It’s a great way to spend a day with family and friends in the Downtown, and see what Stamford has to offer. Sincerely, It is with great pleasure that we present the 17th annual sculpture exhibit, It’s Reigning Cats & Dogs. The exhibit includes 40 whimsical, oversized fiberglass cats and dogs created by 32 artists. These adorable pets will be on display throughout the downtown and at the Stamford Town Center from June through August. Upon conclusion of It’s Reigning Cats & Dogs, the pets will be refurbished and readied for an auction, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Friends of Felines, OPIN and the Stamford Dog Park. In auctions held for CowParade 2000, Art-O-Mobiles 2001 and Stamford Safari 2003, a combined total of over $400,000 was raised for area charities. This commemorative catalogue is a tribute to an extraordinary collaborative process which makes this special event possible. Our sincere appreciation goes to Mayor Michael Pavia and the city of Stamford’s Operational Team whose support of Downtown events truly makes Stamford unique. Many generous participating sponsors are directly responsible for ensuring that our Public Art program flourishes. They include: The Advocate, Bildner Capital Corp., Bobby Valentine's Sports Gallery Cafe and Proud Parents, Bull's Head Pet Hospital, Cox Media Group, Emmett & Glander, Attorneys at Law, GB Parking, Gibraltar Management Co., Inc., Grade A ShopRite, Greenfield Partners, Happyhaha Studio, Hoffman Investment Partners and Summer High Associates LLC (Mann,Fowler & Hoffman families), Juner William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty, Betsy Levinson for the William and Sylvia Silberstein Foundation, Malkin Properties, NBC Universal Television Distribution, People's United Bank, Purdue Pharma L.P., Reckson, a Division of SL Green Realty Corp., SAC Capital Advisors, LP, Seaboard Properties, Inc., Shipman & Goodwin LLP, Silver Golub & Teitell LLP, Spinnaker Real Estate Partners, Steven Wise Associates and Connecticut Film Center, Stamford Hospital, Stamford Marriott Hotel & Agora Spa, Stamford Town Center, UBS and Zody’s 19th Hole.
