LORD’S DAY Sunday 12:30 pm Anticipated Holy Days Mass 5:30 pm Saint Rose of Lima —— Churches This year’s Canadian fishing trip was a great experience, as always. The same people went this year that went last year: Dr. Jerry Steinauer, Fr. Gus Stewart, two of Gus’ parishioners (a father and son) and me. We caught more fish this year than in previous years and the Northern Pike were bigger than usual. In fact, we were throwing back 28-inch Northern Pike because the average size of our larger catches was a little larger than this. The largest fish caught on this trip was 36 inches long and weighed 11.5 pounds. It was caught by Nick, the son of Gus’ parishioner, who turned 19 during our trip. The weather was not great for most of the time that were at Deschambault Lake in North Central Saskatchewan. There was one day when the wind was not blowing and the sun shined all day. Other days included rain and wind, which is why most of us caught a cold on the trip. This year I came equipped with a Cutco fillet knife that I bought in January. In my opinion, this is the best fillet knife ever made. However, mine was defective. The blade somehow got jammed in its sheath, which made getting the blade out a frustrating task, as well as putting it back in. One day I tried putting the knife back into its sheath after filleting my fish and my hand slipped and fell directly on the blade. The cut was so deep that I thought I would have to get stiches. Dr. Steinauer came to the rescue by putting many bandages on the wound which I kept in-place for 72 hours. I still have to wear one bandage on the cut for a while until it heals completely. I will definitely be asking Cutco for a replacement. This was my 18th year that I have gone on this trip with Fr. Gus. In the early days, we drove the entire way with stops only for gas and food. About five years ago, we decided to split the trip into two days to make it a little more bearable. This year, both the trips up and back were hampered by heavy rain. On our way back, we heard that the town of Lusk, Wyoming was closed due to heavy flooding. South Dakota, Wyoming, and Colorado had unusual amounts of moisture this year. In fact, Glendo Lake was as high as I have ever seen it. I am glad to be back. The weather is much nicer, but I will still have to let my finger heal and get over this cold. Fr. Steve —— Saint Joseph Mission All liturgical ministers, please arrive 15 minutes before mass begins to meet in the sacristy for prayer.
