C ity mond experts; the customer nec essarily has to depend upon his jew eler's judgm cnL When one realizes that close color grading Is Impossible— even by the ex pert— with a mounted stone, he can understand how a sale could involve a lower color grade. Cut (the proportioning of the diamond when cutting the 58 facets) is the most important factor affecting a diamond's value and yet is the least under stood by the customer. The fin est rough diamond has its beauty ruined if Improperly cut. Many o f the “ bargain” dla monds are cut fo r spread (to give large appearance when set In the mounting) with the re sult that the top portion— and sometimes the lower portion, also—o f the diamond is cut far too shallow. This causes part of the light to be lost out o f the bottom facets and reduces the brilliance o f the diamond. Low er your color grade and shallow cut your diamond and you may easily lower its value from 50% to 60%. When these fact^rc J tbM e big “ Sales” are better under stood. You get what you pay for. Of these three scourges of man, pestilence was most dreaded. During the Black Plague epidemic of 13 tfi, it was estimated that in some places over two-thirds of the population was wiped out. The discovery of bacteria as the cause o f infectious disease is still within the memory of the living. Pasteur developed the first vaccine for rabies in 1885. Since that time many immunizing procedures have become routine. As a consequence, deaths from infectious diseases have been drastically reduce*!.
