please note the following state & local laws and regulations:
• State law prohibits riding on State Route 28 (except at crossings.)
• Posted speed limits must be obeyed (i.e. Town roads speed limit is 20mph.)
Town road maintenance is intended for automobile and emergency traffic. • Snowmobiles are not allowed on public sidewalks except where designated.
Please observe and obey all traffic and snowmobile signs.
• The use of any lakes for snowmobiling is NOT recommended as there is no way to
determine their safety.
• Keep to the extreme right and yield right-of-way to pedestrians and automobiles.
• Groups must travel in single line.
• Be considerate of others. Please respect private property.

Important Snowmobile Information
SNOWMOBILE TRAILS
Officially open December 7, 2015 weather permitting. Snodeo will be the first major event of
the season on December 11, 12, 13, 2015 inside the Hiltebrant Recreation Center Pavilion
located on North Street in Old Forge, New York. Come join us for a season of fun!
TRAIL PERMITS
A Town of Webb/Inlet Trail Permit is required. Seasonal permits purchased prior to November
15, 2015 are $65 per sled. Permit applications MUST be postmarked by the November 15th
deadline. After that date, Seasonal permits are $80 per sled. 7-Day permits are $45 per sled
and must be purchased in person at the Visitor Information Centers in Old Forge or Inlet, or at
the Stillwater Shop on the Stillwater Reservoir. 7-Day permits are valid for seven consecutive
days from date of purchase. A Seasonal Weekday permit is also available for $50 that allows
you to ride the trails from 5 pm Sunday through 5pm Friday throughout the season. All seasonal permits expire April 1, 2016.
NEW YORK STATE REGISTRATION
Each snowmobile operated in New York State must be properly registered, unless it is used
only on its owner’s property. A snowmobile owned by an out of state resident and operated in
New York State must be registered in New York State even if it is registered elsewhere. (See
page 8 for more registration information from Herkimer County Department of Motor Vehicles.)
LIABILITY INSURANCE
The owner of a snowmobile, which is operated on the Town of Webb/Inlet Trails and/or roads
must have liability insurance coverage as required by the laws of New York State.
YOUTH AGES 10-17
Youth ages 14 through 17 years old may operate a snowmobile without adult or other supervision if they have completed a snowmobile safety training course recognized by the State of
New York. Youth ages 10 through 13 may operate a snowmobile, on lands upon which snowmobiling is allowed, if they have completed a snowmobile safety training course recognized
by the State of New York and are accompanied by (within 500 feet of) a person who is at least
18 years of age.
Children under 10 years old or under age 14 without a safety certificate may operate
a snowmobile only on lands owned or leased by their parent or guardian.
HELMETS
Persons operating, or riding as a passenger, on a snowmobile, must wear a protective helmet
manufactured under Federal DOT standards or with SNELL approval.

Policies for Towns of Webb & Inlet Snowmobile Trail Permits
• NO REFUNDS
• Permits Stickers must be displayed on the driver’s left windshield.
• VINs are required to issue a permit. If you are purchasing a new snowmobile and
wish to take advantage of our pre-season sale price, you can purchase your permit
by November 15th and your permit will be held until the VIN is provided. It is YOUR
responsibility to provide the VIN and insure that the VIN on your paper part of your
permit matches the VIN on the snowmobile to which the permit itself is attached.
• Permits should be purchased by or in the name of the owner of the snowmobile whose
name appears on the New York State registration. Permits are not transferable from
one person to another.
• Replacement stickers can only be issued (one time only) if the old sticker with the
number visible is presented. (Old stickers can be removed by applying heat, as with
a hair dryer.) A replacement permit will not be issued without receiving the old sticker
first.
• To upgrade a weekly permit to a seasonal permit, the paper receipt of the weekly
permit must be submitted. Please note that mailed applications may take up to two
weeks to be processed once received.

Youth Snowmobile Safety Courses

The Inlet Barnstormers Snowmobile Club will be sponsoring two Youth
Snowmobile Safety Courses for the upcoming winter season.
Space is limited and youths must be registered to attend.
Walk-ins will not be accepted.
The first course is scheduled for Saturday, December 12th, and
registration will open on Monday, November 30th.
The second course is scheduled for Saturday, January 16th, and
registration will open on Monday, January 4th.
Pre-registration is required and calls will not be accepted before the
specified dates for each course. Register by calling instructor Ernie
Gilbert at 315-369-3695.

AT OLD FORGE’S DMV OFFICE
The Herkimer County Clerk’s DMV office in Herkimer and the Old Forge satellite DMV office are pleased to assist you with your snowmobile registrations. The Old Forge DMV office
is located at 183 Park Avenue, Old Forge, NY 13420. The office hours are from 9:00 a.m. until
4:45p.m.as follow:
Mondays through Fridays
And some Saturdays (to be announced) during snowmobile season
To accommodate snowmobilers attending the SNODEO weekend, Herkimer County DMV staff will be available at 183 Park Avenue in Old Forge as follows:
DECEMBER 11, 2015 - 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
DECEMBER 12, 2015 - 8:00 a.m. – 2: 00 p.m.
DECEMBER 13, 2015 - A Herkimer County DMV License Clerk will be available by phone 315-240-0747.
New York State requires non-residents to register their sleds. As a winter visitor, we would like to make
your visit pleasant and easy when registering your snowmobiles. To do so, you will need the following:
Completed Snowmobile Registration Application (MV-82SN)
Proof of Ownership (out-of-state registration, title or Manufacturer’s Statement of Origin with bill-of-sale)
Proof of registrant’s name and date of birth (driver’s license)
For a snowmobile not registered in your state, a Sales Tax Exemption Form (DTF-803)
Registration fee of $45.00 (If a member of a NYS recognized Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) Snowmobile Club, (otherwise fee is $100.00). If you do not have a club voucher for the current season, please
make sure you have it in advance before you register your snowmobile. To join a club, the NYS Website is
www.nyssnowassoc.org.
We will be happy to mail an application to you, or you may download the form on the internet at www.
nysdmv.com and mail it to our office at 109 Mary Street, Suite 1111, Herkimer, NY 13350. The current
year’s sticker must be displayed on your sled so please register or renew at least two weeks prior to
your trip.
Someone will be available to answer your questions about snowmobile registrations and other DMV matters between 8:00am and 5:00pm at 315-867-1130. My regular Herkimer DMV office hours are 8:30am to
4:45pm Monday through Friday. Mail your sled renewals directly to my office to
continue receiving the great service you have come to expect.
