The young Harlow, is affectionately nicknamed el Judio Maravilloso (The Marvelous Jew). Harlow is a noted salsa
bandleader and multi-instrumentalist, although he primarily plays piano. He produced over 260 albums for Fania
Records including his brother Andy’s four albums on the Fania stable mate Vaya Records between 1972 and 1976:
Sorpresa La Flauta, La Música Brava, El Campesino and Latin Fever. The first garnered a gold disc and spawned "La
Lotería", the company’s biggest selling 45 rpm to date. Larry recommended that Andy adopt a trombanga sound for the
album and eschew his main instrument, the sax, to play flute in the band’s two ‘bones and flute frontline, after which his
brother's career was significantly enhanced.
Larry Harlow excelled at an early age at various instruments. The music and culture of New York’s Latino community
led him to Cuba where he began an intense study of Afro-Cuban music. Harlow, who is known for his innovative blend
of Afro-Cuban and jazz styles of piano playing, studied music in the 1950s in Cuba but was unable to complete his
degree before the Cuban Revolution forced him to leave the island. Larry and his orchestra, Orquesta Harlow, was the
second orchestra signed to the Fania label. Harlow also produced over 106 albums for various artists and over 50
albums on his own besides the ones he produced for Fania. One of the artists he produced was responsible for pulling
Harlow out of retirement (Chino Rodriguez) who also became the agent for the Latin Legends of Fania which Larry
Harlow continues to perform with. Among his most popular albums were Abran Paso and Tributo a Arsenio
Rodriguez with Ismael Miranda as the lead singer. Larry's opera Hommy (inspired by the Who's Tommy) was credited
as integral to Celia Cruz's comeback (from an early retirement). In other firsts, Harlow was the first piano player for the
legendary salsa group known as the Fania All-Stars, generally regarded as the seminal and most-important Salsa group
to date, and Fania's first record producer. He also appeared with the Fania All-Stars in the movies Our Latin Thing
(Nuestra Cosa), Live in Africa, and Salsa. One of the highlights of the film Our Latin Thing is the Orquesta Harlow
1971 performance of Abran Paso in front of an exuberant and dancing audience in East Harlem with a baby faced
Ismael Miranda on vocals.
In 1994, he teamed up with Ray Barreto, Adalberto Santiago, and cuatro guitar virtuoso Yomo Toro (rip) to found the
Latin Legends Band, with the aim of both educating Latino and American youth about Latin music heritage and
pioneering new ideas in the music, resulting in Larry Harlow’s Latin Legends of Fania Band 2006. This was an Idea
from Ray Barreto, and Chino Rodriguez, Chino became the Agent for the Latin Legends of FANIA band and even had
FANIA's president take note and brought back the FANIA All-Star concerts.
With over two decades experience in the music industry, Grammy winning pianist composer and producer Marlow Rosado has developed a
powerful portfolio working with many of the top artists in the Latin recording industry. From salsa to rock, from merengue to hip-hop, from
bachata to reggaeton, the versatile Marlow Rosado has had his musical hand in all of it. A native of Puerto Rico, he is a salsero at heart, but has
successfully written, played and produced hits in a variety of musical styles for some of the most renowned artists in Latin music.
Marlow Rosado has worked with a diverse repertoire of artists including the unforgettable Tejana signer Selena, legendary pianist Larry
Harlow, Tommy Olivencia, Marc Anthony, Olga Tañón, Ricky Martin and Desmond Child. Some of his most notable works include the 5
driving rock tracks he co-wrote on Alejandra Guzman’s album “lipstick”, nominated for Best Rock Album of the Year by both the American
and Latin Grammys, The emotionally charged Yolandita Monge production, “SENTIMIENTO BORINQUEÑO,” written as a love letter to
his home land, As well as the arrangements, directing, and production of the horn section on Ricky Martin’s production “MAS”. Other artist
includes Elvis Crespo, Puerto Rican Power, India and many more. However, ask him whats his proudest moments as a composer, and without
pause he names his compositions “Me Dejo En El Aire” and “Un No Se Que,” recorded by the legendary “El Gran Combo De Puerto Rico”.
Marlow earned a Masters degree in Jazz Education, and has taught at the elementary as well as the University level. He is continually sought out
by Latin Artists for his musical arrangement skills, his aggressive montunos on the piano, as well as his ability to direct orchestras as he has
successfully done for artists such as the late Salsa legend Celia Cruz, Tito Puente Jr., Tito Nieves, and many others. It is not uncommon to see
Marlow’s name on CD liner notes whether it is as a pianist, producer, songwriter or musical director.
Marlow Rosado took center stage in 2009 when he successfully released his first album, SALSALSA which was signed by the world famous
record company “Fania Records” who hadn’t signed an artist in 18 years, making Marlow Rosado the newest and last artist signed to Fania
Records.
In 2012 Rosado released his sophomore record RETRO, which had an amazing success surprising not only Marlow Rosado but the entire
industry when during the 2012 American Grammy awards, RETRO won the Grammy for BEST TROPICAL ALBUM OF THE YEAR while
competing with the gigantic bachata artist Romeo Santos.
On July 29th 2014, Marlow released his third album “SALSANIMAL” which as suggested with this title, it’s a beast of a production. In
Salsanimal Marlow invites legendary Pianist Larry Harlow and Richie Ray where along with Marlow, in a track called “88mil
teclas” they pay tribute to the instrument that has made them who they are today. Also on this production we see the participation
of artists like Jon Secada and Checo Acosta who both step away from the primary genres to give themselves fully to salsa. Other
amazing artist invited to SALSANIMAL are Alex Matos, winner of 2014’s “Premio Lo Nuestro”, Herman Olivera, Domingo
Quiñonez, The very special participation of Mayito Rivera, ex singer of Cuba’s staple orchestra Los Van Van, and from the hands
of Desmond Child, new cover De La Torres.
With 11 nominations and one American Grammy and one Latin Grammy already on his shelf, Marlow Rosado is most
definitely a driving force in the tropical music industry.
