Car trip Bergen - Hardangerfjord – Geilo. Drive through fertile Hardanger and stop to walk among lush fruit orchards stretching down to the fjord. Or paddle a while on the blue-green fjord. Day 3 Monday A lovely car trip from Nesbyen over the Hemsedal mountain and down to the fjords. South-eastern lowlands lie behind you; ahead awaits the wildly beautiful nature of western Norway. Lunch on mountain farm fare at Ulsåkstølen in Hemsedal or at the locals’ own restaurant: “Kjøkkenkroken”. Or bring your own packed lunch. Stop at the Borgund Stave Church and visitors’ centre, which are splendid examples of old building customs and modern architecture. Drive further over the mountain on the spectacular Snow Road between Lærdal and Aurland on the way to Flåm. Recommended accommodation by the fjord at Fretheim Hotell, Flåm. Day 4 Tuesday Norway in a Nutshell – The Flåm Railway and a cruise on Sognefjord. The Flåm Railway is one of the high points of the trip. The 20 km trip from Flåm at 0 masl to Myrdal Station at 867 masl goes through some of the wildest and most magnificent there is of Norwegian nature. Approx. 2 hrs t/r. Lunch at Njål bryggeri in Flåm is recommended as is an afternoon cruise on the fjord from Flåm via Nærøyfjord to Gudvangen (bus back to Flåm). Day 8 Saturday Travel Ål to Oslo Day 1 Saturday Day 5 Wednesday Oslo – Hemsedal. The evening is to relax and gather strength for the next day’s airy summit trips. Day 2 Sunday Via Ferrata – airy summit trips! Experienced guides bring safety equipment and climbing harnesses for everyone. The trail has varying degrees of difficulty, but not so difficult that anyone in normal physical shape can accomplish the route. Duration: 3 hrs. After breakfast, a walk along the 12 km nature and culture trail around Ustedalsfjord awaits. Here you will see cultural monuments one after the other, such as Geilojordet and Viking era burial mounds. The Hol rural museum has a complete 200-300 year old farmyard. The afternoon is open for recreation and time at the Dr. Holms Hotel, SPA. Alternatively go searching for elk on an exciting excursion to see the King of the forest up close. Recommended accommodation: Skarsnuten Hotell. Day 4 Tuesday Nærøyfjord – narrow, spectacular – and on UNESCO’s World Heritage List. Drive over Hemsedalsfjell passing Borgund Stave Church, through Lærdal tunnel or over the mountain on the spectacular Snow Road between Lærdal and Aurland to Flåm (2 hours). Leave the car in Flåm and take a 3-hour Sognefjord cruise, via Underdal to Gudvangen and take a boat or bus back to Flåm. After a trip on the fjord, the afternoon can be used to ride the Flåm Railway which climbs 850 m up the mountain. Spend the night in Flåm. Recommended accommodation: Fretheim Hotell, Flåm. Day 6 Thursday Car trip Eidfjord to Geilo (Do stop at Norway’s most renown waterfall, Vøringsfoss). Rafting on fresh water rivers at Geilo. Rafting down white water or family-friendly trips in calmer waters are offered by several businesses. Experienced instructors take good care of safety. Should you wish cycling trips, use the day to cycle along the Navvy Road, Norway’s most popular bike route. If the cold and ice call to you, glacier hiking is available on Hardangerjøkulen.
