THE EDITOR
May I firstly take this opportunity to introduce myself
as the new editor of your quarterly news magazine.
I live in the nearby Parish of Illogan where,
in addition to being a Parish Councillor I also edit the
Illogan Review, which is a local news magazine
much along the lines of this one.
I stem from Cornish stock, who were established long
ago in the Penryn area. I have previously lived in North
Cornwall and now, in Illogan, for the last 12 years.
After a career in the Armed Forces I worked in the South East UK with
many secondments to several other countries around Europe the
USA where one of my major involvements was the writing
and vetting of both subjective and factual reports on
industries involved in specialist electronic systems.
I look forward to working with both Carharrack Parish Council and
residents and I hope that, together, we can build on the hard work
already put in by the previous Editors to establish the magazine as a
useful medium for enhancing the already firm links between all
the residents of the Parish.

CARHARRACK PARISH COUNCIL
Consel An Blu Kergarrek
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.
With Christmas fast approaching it is perhaps a good time to reflect
on help. There are those that help others and those that need our
help and a big thank you should go to those who help.
A big thank you goes to the 'former' editors of the Carharrack News,
Les and Bren Moulson, who did a sterling job for several years and
whose efforts were greatly appreciated by many villagers.
Another big thank you and a welcome to the 'new' editor, Roger, who
although he doesn't live in the village was more than willing to take
on the task for which we are very grateful.
I and the Members of the Council would like to welcome Tracey
Frankish to the Parish Council.
With the onset of winter it would be nice if we could all look out for
our neighbours and make sure they are warm and well.
Finally, I should like to wish you all a very merry Christmas
and a happy new year.
Brenda Williams (Chair)
Getting down and dirty has paid dividends on Carn Marth.
By Jenny Gardiner
You may not have noticed yet but
there are more trees there than a
month ago - and it’s thanks to a
Jubilee project involving
Carharrack Parish Council and
local schoolchildren

PARISH COUNCIL Cont.
Having prepared the site, on a cold November morning, armed with
spades and stakes, we made our way to Trevarth Common at the
entrance to Carn Marth to meet up with pupils, staff and parents
from St Day and Carharrack Community School and members of the
Carn Marth Trust.
Mature Oak
The idea was to plant about 30 young trees - all
native species including hawthorn, buckthorn,
chestnut, oak and wild cherry - to mark the
Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Other parishes had
done it with mugs but we decided to do
something a little bit different that would be a
more permanent celebration of the event.
We fixed plenty of stakes and protectors to give the saplings every
chance of survival in what is quite an exposed site.
We’ll put up a plaque eventually, when the trees have become
established, and we plan to plant bluebells next year
We are also considering burying a time capsule under one of the
trees, perhaps a Royal Oak, as part of the project. The contents
would detail life in Carharrack over the past 60 years.
As yet the copse hasn’t got a name - any ideas?
Please Send your suggestions to
the clerk and we’ll consider
choosing one.
Meanwhile do go and check out the site for
yourselves - but you’ll have to wait until
next spring when, with any luck,
the trees will be in leaf and
the bluebells will be
blooming!

CARHARRACK CORNWALL COUNCILLOR NEIL PLUMBER
I was pleased to have the opportunity to write for the
Carharrack News as your Cornwall Councillor. But not only
will this be my first article it will also be my last as yet
again the “powers that be” have changed the boundaries
and my home Parish of St.Stithians will be divided from
Carharrack and Gwennap.
When elected in 1976,( YES –1976) I was the youngest
Councillor to be elected in Cornwall. I am now 60 and
am pleased that since this time I have managed to represent Wendron,
St.Stithians, Mabe, (Ponsanooth - St.Gluvias) Gwennap and Carharrack - a
huge area.
In this 37 years I have gained a lot of experience and must have done
something right! My steer over this long period has been listen to the
people who appointed me as their representative.
My views have not changed since arriving on the doorsteps of Local
Government with a hard earned Honours B.Sc., Degree, without any
experience and green as grass as a Mebyon Kernow Councillor.
Since then the London Political Parties have continued to centralise
everything in their London power base and Cornwall Council has given
powers to 12 people who control everything. This Cabinet has the legal
power to make decisions on our behalf even if the Cornwall Council
disagrees!
The Cabinet is being led by a corrupt London based Political Party system
which is undemocratic-as they do not listen to the people of Cornwall.

This is why I voted against the Joint Venture Company,

Why I support the email petition to reverse the decision of
Privatisation,

Why for the first time ever I have signed a vote of no confidence in
anyone let along the Leader of the Cornwall Council.
PASSING OVER HUGE RESOURCES TO A PRIVATE COMPANY IS NOT
IN THE INTERESTS OF THE PEOPLE OF CORNWALL.
Page 8 www.carharracknews.co.uk

CARHARRACK CORNWALL COUNCILLOR NEIL PLUMBER Cont.
Those now on the Cabinet as Portfolio Holders were “big” voices when in
opposition to the last controlling Political Party who also did not listen to us
and now they are doing exactly the same thing whilst in power.
I was particularly disgusted by the “Independent Group Leadership” that
personally attempted several times to instruct me how to vote and when
that failed they wanted me to abstain. You will all guess what my answer
was !
I was not elected to abstain or to be told how to vote by a small group of
Politically Party led councillors!
I was pleased to support Local Housing Needs Homes based on the needs
of Carharrack. The only way of solving our housing problems is by building
houses linked to the needs of our communities. Building unaffordable
houses not linked to local wage levels just uses up the land which our future
local needs will find unavailable and already occupied. This is a loss to our
community as once the land has been built on it is gone forever!
My greatest achievement for Carharrack of which I am proud has been the
successful closure of the United Downs Land Fill Site which has improved
everyone’s lives.
Thank you, Neil Plummer
Mebyon Kernow Councillor for the Carharrack,St.Stithians and Gwennap

Plumber are not necessarily those of the Carharrack News production team or those of
Carharrack Parish Council
LAST MONTHS FIREWORKS - The new venue for the village
fireworks display at Benson's Field proved to be a great one.
Just a short walk for most spectators on a cold but clear
evening was rewarded by a glittering display of
pyrotechnic wonderment! Thanks to Mike and Sue Beveridge of
Benson's Bed and Breakfast for the use of the field and to
the ICE group for their hard work throughout the year
in raising funds to pay for the spectacle.
Oh.... thanks too for the free spectacle of the Milky Way overhead !

SUNNY DAYS NURSERY At Sunny Days we value the friendship bonds
that children make though their play. Children have moved between rooms
or joined us for the start of the September term. It is great to see strong
bonds forming with friends and key people. How children support and
help each other, beginning to work out right from wrong and what
motivates them is fascinating and rewarding to watch. Some
friendships will continue all the way through school and
into adulthood, confirming the children’s place in our community.
We have enjoyed exploring outside and picking blackberries for eating
and painting with. We have hunted for snails and worms and children can
quickly spot a likely place to look. We have used our knowledge to draw,
paint and create salt dough and clay bugs and worms. You may have seen
some of our work entered at the St Day Horticultural Show last October.
Our role play inside has been ‘The Gingerbread Man‘ in pre-school and a
home corner in the Sunbeam Room. Outside our sand garden, planks,
crates, sandbags and drainpipes continue to challenge the children’s
imaginations whilst water play remains a firm favourite.
To find out more about us please contact Bobby on 01209 821868 or call in.

SITA UK
By Editor: Many thanks must go to SITA who have offered
to print our News magazine, in colour, and free of charge.
This constitutes a helpful and very generous offer
which is much appreciated.
SITA is of course part of a national recycling and resource
management company with a vision of wanting a
society where there is reduced waste, a society
where waste materials are reused, recycled or
recovered for their energy content.
The company works with businesses and local authorities
to reduce the impact of their waste on the environment.
THE ORIGINS OF RECYCLING - Early Days
Recycling has been a common practice for most of
human history, with recorded advocates as far back
as Plato in 400 BC.
During periods when resources were scarce, archaeological studies of
ancient waste dumps show less household waste (such as ash,
broken tools and pottery) - implying more waste was being
recycled in the absence of new material.
In pre-industrial times, there is evidence of scrap bronze and other
metals being collected in Europe and melted down
for perpetual reuse.
In Britain dust and ash from wood and coal fires was collected by
'dustmen' and down-cycled as a base material used in brick making.
By 1813 The main driver for these types of recycling was the
economic advantage of obtaining recycled stock instead of acquiring
virgin material, as well as a reduction of public waste removal in
ever more densely populated areas.

Not a lot of people know that ! Carharrack is a relatively new village. Its creation
was around the 1820s. From the 1700s until 1820 it was a small hamlet of no more
than twelve cottages. The mining boom was the reason for the expansion.

CARHARRACK PLAYING FIELD
A Potted History:
The redevelopment of Carharrack Playing Field
was started by local children who
presented a petition to the Parish Council.
I.C.E. (Improving Carharrack’s Environment)
held a number of meetings with the
residents group followed by consultations at
village events; the winter and Summer Fairs were both used to start
developing a design for the park that local people wanted.
I.C.E was supported by the then Kerrier DC landscape architect who
also undertook project management.
In May 2009, I.C.E completed a Playing for Real exercise on
the play site with local children.
A report (Carharrack Playing for Real) Is available on Cornwall
Council’s website describing the event and the findings,
including lots of pictures.
A series of mosaic workshops were held in the village over the
summer holidays in 2009 to produce mosaics for the site.
All parts of the site are well used. The train has been played to death
over the years and even the little children love running all the way
round the new path with its pictures and mile posts.
The football area brings in all ages and has been a way to get to
know some of the teenagers.
The site is so well loved that groups of child minders bring
children here from Falmouth on regular trips.
The latest improvements to the Park were formally opened in May
of this year. No Toilets but there are facilities in the local pub
and the nearby community rooms.
THANKS AND A PLEA FROM A PISKY……..
Thanks for helping me to keep the field clean and tidy.
Please make my task easier by putting your rubbish
in the bins and look out for details of a village litter
pick when you can help me even more.

The aim is to keep our village a safe place to live but there is always
the need for more co-ordinators to join this already strong team
of active volunteers.
The main functions of a co-ordinator are to report any suspicious
behaviour. To help and keep in contact with your near neighbours
and to liaise with other co-ordinators and the local police force.
NW stress that urgent incidents, such as the witness of crime or anti
social behaviour should initially be reported to the police by calling
999. Non-urgent incidents should be reported to the police on 101.
You can also contact any of the co-ordinators for advice or if you wish
to know more about this voluntary service, email as detailed below
or come along to the NW meetings held in the Mills Hall:

CHENHALE FARM
I expect by now most of you will have noticed 'things going on' at Chenhale Farm
Equestrian! Just to put you all in the picture I thought I'd tell you a bit more.
We are building an international size indoor riding arena which is
called "The Jubilee Arena". Included in this build are brand new
facilities which include an all weather car park, toilet and shower
block, meeting room with a cafe, a secretary's office and a "One Stop
Clop Shop" which will be opening in 2013. The shop will include a
small feed store run in conjunction with Carharrack Feed Stores, and
plans to be open when they are closed, i.e. evenings, Sundays and
Bank Holidays. We will be selling Equestrian clothing amongst all the other
paraphernalia that riders and horses need. We shall be stocking useful items
such as torches, batteries, logs etc. You ask and we will try to please.
There is a very substantial equestrian population in this area who are welcoming
the facility to ride under cover and keep off the roads. There will be regular
lessons here taught by Gary and Candy Wood along with clinics with other trainers.
Candy has been living in Carharrack for over 35 years running the riding school back
in the 80s! I welcome the opportunity to teach youngsters and beginners once
more, the progeny of pupils from before! Gary (Candy's husband) is an
International Grand Prix dressage rider (I bet you didn't know you had a
famous person living so close!!?) and also teaches from Novice to
Advanced clients. You might have seen us out and about with our horses riding
through the village, the famous horse is The Mighty Quin the big brown and
white fella! He and Gary are both superb at dressage to music and we will be
having an Open Day in which they can strut their stuff for you all to see!!
We are having some extremely talented school master horses and ponies living
with us to teach on and Team Chenhale is opening its doors very shortly
for riding lessons to riders of all ages and abilities.
The school building will also be available for other sports and community groups to
use. There is interest from rugby, football and netball clubs for indoor training, dog
agility groups and even indoor tennis. It can also be used for local community
events. Indoor car boot sales, barn dances, flower shows, small animal and
poultry shows and the village fete. You name it we can accommodate you!
The new facilities have been built with as much environmental consideration as
economically possible. If you wish to know more then please
feel free to drop in and see us.
Please come and support us and put Carharrack and The Jubilee Arena
well and truly on the map!!

CARHARRACK CHURCH
Those who live near the church will no doubt
have heard that the bell in the little tower has
been mended and is ringing out over Carharrack
before each service on a Sunday (8:30am) and
Thursday morning (9:30am). The bells are rung for two reasons
a) to invite you to come along and worship our Lord with us and
b) to remind you all that as a community you are being prayed
for during those services.
You are always welcome to join us and are warmly invited to our
Autumn Coffee Morning on 24th November from 10am to noon where
there will also be stalls of gifts, books, cakes and a raffle and tombola and
also a chance to look around the beautiful little church.
The following day there will be a “Messy Church” Christmas event at St Day
Methodist chapel from 4pm. Messy Church is a new way of being church
where children and parents/carers etc come together as a family and make
different crafts, painting, sometimes cooking but generally messy things!
This is followed by a story and a prayer on a particular theme, which on
25th November will be Christmas. This is then followed by a buffet tea.
This is a free event and is to encourage families to come together have
fun and worship God in a slightly different and more informal way,
so please do come along.
This also for me is what Christmas is about, that being together as a family
and as a community, because our Lord Jesus Christ was born to unite
people with God and with one another in love.
As usual our Christmas Eve Communion Service with carols sung by
candlelight will be at 9pm. Please do come along and join in this lovely
service with the church beautifully decorated for the season, so that
together as a community we can worship Christ the new born King.
May I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy and Holy
Christmas and every Blessing for the New Year.
With love and prayers,
God Bless

CARHARRACK & ST DAY RETIRED AND PENSIONERS CLUB
Hello Everyone,
Firstly, I would like to thank Margaret for all the hard work she has done for
the club over the years. Because she is not up to it now, I have been asked
to do some of her work--hence I'm writing this!
Our November trip to Exeter is nearly full and the Christmas lunch is only
open to members, so it's not much use giving you details of these--BUT--we
will be organising the years trips in January and I will hopefully have a list of
them all in time for the next magazine. They will start at Easter and go
through the year. If you would like to go on any of them, or if you would
like to join the club ( we meet on the first monday of the month, and have a
few vacancies at the moment), then contact Daphne and we will try to fit
you in!
Thanks also to Les and Brenda for all they have done with the magazine and
to Carl for delivering it. They have worked so hard!!
I would like to wish all the magazine readers a very Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year on behalf of the club, and we hope to see you on one of
our trips in 2013.

St. PIRANS POP-IN
After the school holidays, Friday mornings ‘Pop-In’ re-started again at the
beginning of September.
Meeting every Friday morning between 10am and 11.30am in the
schoolroom at St. Piran’s Church the children have a chance to play while
Mums, Dads, Grandparents and Aunties, (I don’t think we have had an
Uncle join us yet), have a cup of tea or coffee and a chat.
The group is gradually growing and, although not everybody comes every
week, on most Fridays there are at least six children plus carers taking
advantage of the opportunity to get together here in the village.
Both children and adults enjoy the once-a-week change of scene and
having the space for the children to play or crawl/run around.
Everyone with young children is warmly invited to join us.
If you want to speak to someone about the Pop-In, please call
Catherine on 820532 or Pauline on 820940

I have been asked to act as Secretary for the Trust and will attempt

The Mills Hall is still very busy and all of our regular bookings have
now got direct access to a key which means that the Trust members
are able to cover the other "one - off" bookings as they arise.
It's only when we have to begin to do some of the things that Jill
and Russell used to do on their own, that we begin to realise
just how much they really did do!!
I think this would be an appropriate time and place to publicly thank
Jill and Russell for their commitment and organisation over
the years, and we all hope that they will now find a
little more time for themselves.

Like so many things electrical, the history of electric Christmas lights
begins with Thomas Edison. During the Christmas season of 1880, Edison,
who had invented the incandescent bulb the previous year, hung strings
of electric lights outside his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey, USA.

I.C.E. SAY
I.C.E. What? I.C.E. SAY. Improving Carharrack’s Environment.
We are fast approaching the end of yet another year and time to take stock.
How many Summer Easter and Christmas fairs have we held? 5? 6? More?....
Perhaps someone can think back and work that out. Whatever the answer, thanks
must go to folks from everywhere who contribute toward our community events.
This summer saw a Jubilee Celebration, a Tea Dance and Summer Fair all unaffected
by the weather, some have said we were lucky, I think it was well deserved!
The Playing field is being well used. It’s great to see so many Mums Dads Granddads
Grandmas and youngsters using it. The sound of laughter from there is heartening
to hear. One or two hiccoughs regarding adults using the “kick about” football area
appear to have been resolved and it has been noted by all the authorities that our
field is NOT for organised adult football!
The completed wall, railings and arch are splendid and
some extra planting in the flower beds has occurred.
The upkeep of the park and its play equipment is the
major responsibility of Cornwall Council, but the
tidying of the flowerbeds and removal of litter to
the litterbins can be and is done by a few stalwart
volunteers.
Perhaps we could all do a little towards keeping our space tidy. It doesn’t take much
to put the occasional piece of wayward litter into a bin or to remove an obvious
weed.
Chri….. is only weeks away and The Chris….Fair is on Sat. 1st of December and
Father Christmas…. (there I’ve used the word) will be there with all the usual stalls
raffles etc. going on.
Just to remind you that you don’t have to sign up to I.C.E. It’s YOUR village’s
volunteer group. I.C.E. needs your help in whatever way, be it:
Coming to the events, buying Christmas Raffle Tickets, (Major Cash Prize again this
year), posting leaflets, putting up Christmas Lights, cooking cakes, donating prizes
running a stall, putting up posters etc. etc.
Please get in touch. I’m on 822074 or email on [email protected]
at Ash Tree Villa.

ST DAY & CARHARRACK COMMUNITY SCHOOL
Autumn Term News from St Day & Carharrack
Community School
The new intake of pupils into our Reception Class are
settling very well and enjoying the new outside play area
and its canopy. At the end of October we had an Open
Evening on a Spanish Theme, when new parents and children were able to come
and look around our newly refurbished school and join in a range of activities.
It was very enjoyable meeting new families and getting to know them ready for
next September 2013. If you were unable to come and see us in action, please do
not hesitate to ring Mrs Hill in the School Office on 01209 820456 to book a visit,
either during the school day or after school. It really is the best way to choose
your child’s school.
In the summer one of last year’s reception children made a house move from
Penryn and here is part of a letter from her mum Kate Venner de Cortez:
“I just wanted to thank you and your staff for giving Aracely such a lovely start to
her school life. Your Reception class is such a warm and supportive space and she
was able to build confidence and start to gain the skills and passion for learning
that will hopefully set her up for the future. In fact, the new school have
commented on how advanced she is starting Year 1.
I know that the school doesn’t seem to be valued as it should for what it does for
the children and the community. I admit that I was a bit nervous but from the first
visit and meeting with you I have felt valued and was really impressed by the
vibrancy, creativity and commitment to doing your best for all children, whatever
their abilities and needs. I loved the open day; it was a great celebration of all that
goes on. I hope that more local families begin to recognise what they have on their
doorstep; it is something to be proud of.
Many thanks
Kate Venner de Cortez”

SCHOOL Cont: Exciting Times!
St Day and Carharrack Community Primary School has been discussing, consulting
and debating over a brand new and exciting project called the Redruth Learning
Group Co-operative. This has involved a group of local schools preparing to form an
educational partnership amongst themselves in order that they might develop new
strategies and procedures for co-operative and collaborative working together. The
schools are Redruth School, Treleigh, Lanner, Pennoweth and St Day and Carharrack
with other partners.
A great deal of planning has already taken place to establish feasibilities, legal
matters, and the necessary procedures to carry out a formal consultation process.
Already meetings have been held for governing bodies, parents, staff and local
stakeholders such as parish councils, county councillors and other interested groups.
There has been interesting debate and points made but in essence the general
consensus is that this is a good thing for our school.
There are many advantages to such a collaboration which includes staff working
more closely across the area such as:1.
Sharing of knowledge
a)
expertise and resources
b)
potential for shared ordering and procurement
c)
sharing of services such as grounds maintenance
d)
working with other educational providers
e)
working with businesses, further education and higher education.
2.
Project progress If the project goes ahead the school will become a
foundation trust school but it will still retain its unique identity, the uniform
and name will stay the same and Cornwall Council will still be a partner of the
Redruth Learning Group Co-operative and the school will still look to the
council for advice and support where necessary. Our governing body will
remain the same but there will be a new over-arching board which will
consist of representatives from each of the partner schools plus businesses,
further and higher education.
It is exciting times for all of the prospective partners and as a smaller school
we believe we have much to gain from working in this new way. As parents
you will not notice many, if any, changes to the school on a day to day basis
but we are confident that our school will benefit greatly as part of this
exciting new venture.

CARHARRACK OLD CORNWALL SOCIETY
OUR OWN WIMBLEDON AT TING TANG
Anyone using the village road through to Trevarth Road cannot fail to have
seen the impressive dwelling being built by the Barber Brothers from
Southampton with its granite surrounding wall and entrance gates.
The majority of the work has been carried by local tradesmen.
The site itself has an interesting history.
In the early 1920s Edward Tribble,
a Falmouth dentist and chemist, had
recently moved to the village after his
retirement and wished to do
something for the youth of the area.
He duly financed the building of two
tennis courts at Ting tang, plus a members pavilion with changing facilities
that was also large enough for social functions. At either end were smaller
sheds for the storage of equipment. At present one bungalow, which
incorporates one wall of the old pavilion, plus an adjacent new build, mark
the site of the courts, which were close to the main Comford Road just prior
to the track linking the Comford and Trevarth Roads.
The opening ceremony on Thursday May 1, 1924 was by Mr C. Beauchamp,
after which a set of doubles were played between the President and
Vice-President and Misses Bailey of Lanner.
Carharrack Brass Band attended under their new conductor, Mr T. Allen.
The 1920s saw a lot of activity by club members during the summer
months. Numerous matches were played against the likes of Cusgarne
and Ponsonooth. Team players included: L. and W.F. Ellis, Mrs Bailey,
H.E. Strutt, H. Curnow and Miss Sedgeley. Officers were: President
Rev. Thoroid, Vice-Presidents Rev. Paul Ellis, C. Beauchamp and Captain
A.H. Moreing M.P., Nick Carbis was honorary treasurer, Mr W. Darlington
honorary secretary, Miss E. Parkinson assistant honorary secretary.
Committee members included: Mrs Enstice, Misses Parkinson, P. Gould,
P. Ellis and Messieurs A. Teague, Tribble, J.C. Treweek, Cornish, H. Curnow,
L.Ellis and W. Gay. The Enstice sisters, Margaret Sedgeley and Kathleen
Goldsworthy were keen playing members.

CARHARRACK OLD CORNWALL SOCIETY Cont.
Many social events occurred during the clubs existence; one detailed article
in the West Briton in July 1925 notes, “The previous Thursday a Moonlight
Dance took place at the Carharrack Lawn Tennis Club. The hard courts were
carefully prepared by the secretary, being prettily illuminated. Mr Conquest
was the M.C. with music supplied by Miss Mordaunt on the piano.”
The facilities at the club-house were made available to the Carharrack
and District Sports Club and in the mid to late 1930s to the Horticultural and
Fanciers Society; both groups taken full advantage of this offer down the
years. At an A.G.M. of the District Sports Club in 1934 it maintained that
the newly constructed putting green was proving very popular, but, sadly,
the tennis courts were nowhere near fully used.
By the commencement of the Second World War the tennis club seemed to
have ceased to be active and the courts lay neglected for many years.
The pavilion appears to have been replaced
by a then modern wooden replacement and
was named the Pines, the home in the mid
1930s to early 1940s of the Harvey family:
Sidney James and Lottie Vera and their
children Carol, June and Ester.
Sidney ran a haulage business including making concrete blocks plus a taxi.
From the late 1940s to the mid 1950s William T and Florence Philp were in
residence, followed by Leonard and Nellie Johnson in the 1960s
and Richard and Gwendoline Morgan in the 1970s. The original wooden
building was moved to the United area and used by the Orchard family
until it was destroyed by fire .
Over the last 20 or so years Ladds , a local builder, used it as a storage yard.
Adjacent to the site a modern block bungalow was erected by
John Simmons.

By Editor - How did I do?
I am hoping that my first attempt at editing your magazine generally meets
with approval but that said, I am always open to comments and/or
suggestions, critical or not, which I hope you will take the time to send.
I apologise that some of the later entries to come in for inclusion have had
to be ‘squeezed’ a little because of space availability due to the ‘normal’
space available being taken up by the Christmas events.
Things should return to normal for the next issue.
Following are a contribution of poems from the local schoolchildren
IF I HAD WINGS By Freya Burrell
THE WIND BLEW ON AND ON
By Ebony Jonathon – Year 3
If I had wings,
I would watch the people scurry
The wind blew on and on,
around like ants,
The gentle wind couldn't move a
While I fly like a bee.
tree,
If I had wings,
I would nibble a slice of the sun,
It would be as hot as a chilli.
If I had wings,
I would smell the scent of the
rainbow,
And then fly across each colour.
If I had wings,
I would break through the clouds,
Like fluffy glass.
If I had wings,
I would draw faces in a cloud,
And all of them would be different.
If I had wings,
I would listen to the music of
parties,
And dance to it in there.
It blew it so calmly along,
Moving along no damage done,
People in the bark having lots of fun,
The wind blew on and on.
