Hello Members!
Dear Chamber Members,
I know our December newsletter is large – but there is SO
much going on that we just couldn’t leave anything out!
Please take the time to read through the information provided
in this newsletter so that you are aware of the vast array of things happening in the
next few weeks.
As we move into holiday mode, we want to remind everyone of the significant
message that the Chamber is promoting and that is Shop Local-Shop Platteville!
We are gearing up our marketing of Platteville as a retail hub more than ever and
reaching out to our community members how important it is to support our local
businesses, especially at this time of year.
Our largest retail promotion of the year is Santa Bucks. This is our 18 annual
promotion and is already off to a great start and momentum is building for it to
be our biggest and most successful promotion yet. Thank you to all of our major
sponsors who help make this promotion a success: A&W Restaurant, Anytime
Fitness, Ashley Furniture, Clare Bank, Country Kitchen, Dairy Queen, Elements,
Faherty Inc, Four Seasons Landscaping, H&R Block, Milio’s Sandwiches,
Mound View Inn, Netux Solutions, The Platteville Journal, Queen B Radio,
Shimer Car Wash, The Shopping News, SNAP Fitness, and TRICOM/Radio
Shack.
th
The Chamber’s gift certificate program has a huge appeal this time of year as well
and generates thousands of dollars for our local businesses and provides an ideal
gift for all of those on your list. And it keeps money local! We distribute well
over 1,000 gift certificates at holiday time. Many chamber member businesses
use our gift certificates as holiday gifts for customers and employees and they
are easy to purchase and easy to use. Please call or email us if you would like to
order some and we’ll have them ready when you stop by to pick them up.
The Board of Directors held the election for incoming board members for 2016
at the board retreat held on October 19th. We will be losing two dedicated board
members who have each served two 3-year terms: Tim Boldt (Pioneer Ford Sales)
and Aaron Cullen (Honkamp Krueger & Co.) Thank you, Tim and Aaron, for
all of your selfless dedication to the mission of the Chamber. We would like to
welcome returning Board members Dan Dreessens (Delta 3 Engineering), Lori
Bahr (Mound City Bank) and Chad Lueder (Hypro, Inc.) who have agreed to
serve another 3-year term. We would also like to welcome our newest board
members: Dan Jones (Rosemeyer-Jones Chiropractic) and Mike Moran (Fidelity
Bank). At our November board meeting, the following board members were
elected as officers for 2016: President: Jason Thompson (American Bank &
Trust); President-Elect: Deb Jenny (Platteville Realty); Vice Presidents: Dan
Dreessens (Delta 3 Engineering) and Rob Cramer (UW-Platteville); Treasurer:
Deb McWilliams (Clare Bank); and Kathy Kopp (Chamber Executive Director),
Secretary. I am sure you will agree that the Chamber will continue to be in good
hands!

The Society of Women Engineers at UW-Platteville is excited to announce that on February 2628, 2016, they will be hosting the 2016 Society of Women Engineers Region H Conference.
This conference is held each year by a university in Region H, the largest SWE region with over
5600 members in eight states, for SWE members to come together for collaboration and support
in engineering. Over 700 collegiate and professional members are
expected to attend this year’s conference in Platteville.
This event is also an opportunity for UW-Platteville to celebrate the
growth it has seen in women in engineering, math, and science
programs. In the last five years the number of women in the College
of EMS has increased by 72 percent.
The conference is being planned and run entirely by
students with the support of faculty and the
professional SWE section in Dubuque. It will seek to
““M”-power Women” by providing the tools to
develop personal leadership skills, professional ties,
and overall SWE unity.
Friday of the conference will feature a fun evening of socializing
and networking with businesses and SWE members. Saturday will feature
breakout sessions and tours, including John Deere, Epic, and local
attractions, as well as two keynote speakers, a career fair, and
evening entertainment from the Midwest Dueling Pianos.
UW-Platteville SWE is still accepting sponsors and volunteers for the conference. Help make this
conference one of the best for SWE Region H!
For more information about the conference, or if you are interested in sponsoring or volunteering,
please visit www.uwplatt.edu/ems-success/swe-region-h-conference.

PLATTEVILLE HOLIDAY PROJECT
OCTOBER 8, 2015
PLATTEVILLE AREA ORGANIZATIONS & BUSINESSES
The Platteville Holiday Project Committee continues to work with area organizations and
businesses to coordinate the toy & food basket distributions, Adopt-A-Family and Salvation
Army bell ringers projects. NOTE: Coats for Kids distribution will be held as a part of the
Community Gives Back Event on November 7th.
The Committee’s goal is to serve as many needy families as possible through these programs.
During the 2014 holiday season, we served approximately 250 children (from 90 different
families). We expect to serve about the same number or possibly more this year.
The success of our program depends on our volunteers. The following are tasks that will
require volunteers (sign up sheet is enclosed):
TOYS
Deliver/Set Up of Toys
Clean Toys
Clean Up After Distribution
Distribution of Toys
BELL RINGERS
FOOD BASKETS
Pick up Food from Store
Deliver Food Baskets
Assemble Food Baskets
Ring Salvation Army Bells
If you or a member(s) of your organization or business would like to volunteer to assist us with
the toy or food baskets projects, please complete sign-up sheet on the back and return it to
via fax Platteville Business Incubator (348-3426) or contact Dana King at 608-778-3509 or email [email protected] by December 4, 2015.
If you are interested in doing the bell ringing, contact Rolita Miller at 778-2507 OR go to the
following website: www.ringbells.org
If you wish to participate in the Adopt-A-Family, contact Nancy Salzmann at 608-348-2685 by
November 3rd.
Drop off barrels for new or gently used toys will be located at Pioneer Ford, Clare Bank, Mound
City Bank, Wisconsin Bank & Trust, Anchorbank, Dupaco Community Credit Union, Heartland
Credit Union, American Bank & Trust, Livingston State Banks, Fidelity Bank & Trust and
Walgreens. We will be giving each child a new book again this year and are accepting
donations to purchase these as well as the other gift/food items. If you wish to make a cash
donation, this may be sent to: Platteville Holiday Project Committee, PO Box 213,
Platteville, WI 53818-0213.
THANK YOU for your support of our holiday projects.
