God’s Word Today... “Where can we buy
enough food for them to eat?” This question, posed
by the Lord to Philip, signaled the beginning of the
miracle of the multiplication of the loaves and
fishes, recounted in today’s Gospel. In the last few
years the world has witnessed catastrophic natural
disasters. The destruction that they wrought left us
all stunned, wondering how we could help, even in
some small way. Today’s Gospel reminds us that
when even our small efforts at helping people are
multiplied, a miracle of comfort and healing is the
result. As we listen to God’s word and share in the
miracle of the Eucharist, let us open our hearts to
those in need, doing whatever we can to help

La Palabra de Dios Hoy... “¿Cómo compraremos pan para que coman éstos?” Esta pregunta que
le hizo el Señor a Felipe inició el comienzo del milagro
de la multiplicación de los panes y los peces, que nos
relata el Evangelio de hoy. En los últimos años el
mundo ha sido testigo de desastres naturales
catastróficos. La destrucción que los mismos causaron
nos dejaron estupefactos a todos y preguntándonos
cómo podríamos ayudar, aunque fuese en una menor
escala. El Evangelio de hoy nos recuerda que, por muy
pequeños que sean los esfuerzos para ayudar a los
demás, si se multiplican, el resultado será un milagro
de consuelo y curación. Al escuchar la palabra de Dios
y compartir el milagro de la Eucaristía abramos
nuestro corazón a los necesitados a fin de hacer lo que
podamos para aliviar el sufrimiento de muchos.

Stewardship Reflections ~ 17th Sunday in
Ordinary Time: July 26, 2015 ~ “There is a
boy here who has five barley loaves and two
fish; but what good are these for so many?”(John 6:9)
The miracle of the Loaves and Fishes is the only
miracle which is recorded six times in the Gospel. It
carries two important messages. First, no matter how
little we have, we always have enough to share.
Second, Christ can take our humble gifts and do great
things with them if we are just willing to let Him.
Reflexiones de Mayordomía~17º Domingo
del Tiempo Ordinario, 26 de julio del 2015:
“Aquí hay un muchacho que tiene cinco
panes de cebada y dos pescados; pero ¿qué es esto
para tantos?” (Juan 6:9) El milagro de los Panes y el
Pescado es el único milagro que está registrado seis
veces en el Evangelio. Lleva dos mensajes importantes.
Primero, no importa cuan poco tenemos, siempre
tenemos lo suficiente para compartir. Segundo, Cristo
puede tomar nuestros regalos humildes y hacer cosas
grandiosas con ellos si solamente estamos dispuestos a
dejarlo.

WHAT IS A PARISH
PASTORAL COUNCIL?
A parish pastoral council is
the chief consultative body to the pastor.
Consultation is a sharing of wisdom that enables
the parish to carry out its mission. The pastoral
council discerns issues that impact the lives of
parishioners, prays, studies, and discusses
those issues, and recommends practical ways
of addressing them.
HOW DOES A PARISH PASTORAL
COUNCIL OPERATE?
A council meets once a month with the pastor to
consider pastoral issues. It listens carefully to the
concerns of the pastor, the parish staff and
others involved in the life of the parish. Through
prayer and discernment it searches for the
guidance of the Holy Spirit and reaches decisions
through consensus. Sacred Heart of Jesus
Parish Pastoral Council meets the second
Monday of each month from 7:00pm to 8:30 pm.
Regular attendance at meetings is critical.
WHO SHOULD BE A MEMBER OF A PARISH
PASTORAL COUNCIL?
A council member should be at least of high
school age, prayerful, care about the spiritual
well-being of the entire community, be willing to
learn about the universal Church, have a sense
of mission: to bring Christ to people and people
to Christ, and be involved in the life and activities
of the parish. A council member must be
prepared to make a sincere commitment and
attend meetings consistently.

It is necessary to attend the Information Meeting
on Saturday, August 15, at 11:00 am in the
Parish Life Center. We anticipate the meeting
to last about an hour. It will also be necessary to
attend the Parish Pastoral Council Discernment
process on Saturday, August 22, from 11:00 a.m.
to 1:00 pm in the Parish Life Center. Please
prayerfully consider being a part of our Parish
Pastoral Council.

Formation Toward Christian
Ministry...Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish will
again be offering Formation Toward Christian
Ministry (FTCM) Semester III classes! Classes
meet on weekday evenings or in all-day
Saturday format, depending on parish request.
Each class session includes prayer, content
presentation and group dynamics. Each
semester also includes participation in a Day of
Reflection as a means to integrate content into
daily living. A completion ceremony, at which
the Bishop presides, concludes the threesemester course of study. The 108 clock hours
of FTCM consists of 90 hours of courses and 18
hours of Days of Reflection. Semester III will be
offered here according to the following
schedule:

October 17, 24: Moral Teachings
November 7: Mission and Ministry

VIRTUS “Protecting God’s Children”
“Protecting God’s Children’s” is the program
selected by the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston to
educate clergy, staff, and volunteers who work with
children and youth about child sexual abuse and the
ways to create a safe environment for children. A
“Protecting God’s Children” workshop will be held
at Sacred Heart of Jesus, Manvel in the Parish Life
Center on the following date and time:

All attendees must have a current Driver’s license
(any state), State-issued Identification Card,

Centro de Vida Parroquial
Este programa es eligido por el Arquidiócesis de
Galveston-Houston para educar el clero, personel y
todos los voluntarios que trabajan y asisten a niños
y jóvenes sobre el abuso sexsual y la manera de
crear un entorno seguro para niños y la joventud.
Para poder asistir el taller Protegiendo a los
Niños de Dios:
Todos los asistentes deben tener licencia de
conducir vigente (en qualquier estado), tarjeta de
identificación emitida por el estado, pasaporte, ID
del consulado de Mexico o Guatemala. Debe preregistrarse por Internet al www.virtusonline.org
y favor de usar su nombre y dia de nacimiento
indicado en su forma de idenificación.

Once again the youth of this parish are preparing to go to
AYC July 31--August 2. It is a 3 day conference for all
high school youth put on by the Archdiocese of GalvestonHouston. It is a chance for the youth to learn more about
their faith, grow in their relationship with Christ, and to
meet other young people that share our same faith around
the Galveston-Houston area. The cost for the conference
is $250 per youth and adult chaperone. Our goal is to take
100 of our youth, but they can’t go without your help.
Prayerfully consider sponsoring a complete youth
registration or just a donation. Every little bit will help.
