Happy Friday to All of You! December 2015/January 2016 Quote of the Week: "There has to be this pioneer, the individual with the courage, the ambition to overcome the obstacles that always develop when one tries to do something worthwhile that is new and different." Alfred P. Sloan Welcome back! It was good to get back this week from break. My family and I enjoyed a wonderful time in Sunriver in 18 inches of snow with a temperature of -‐7 degrees over night. I hope all of you were able to enjoy some time with family and friends. We have officially begun the winter sports season. Boys basketball had their first taste of competition on Wednesday and the Girls play tonight. This week also marks the beginning of Holiday Sharing to which we look to collect and donate toys to those less fortunate. Our kids do such a great job with this! College and Career Corner (From Carrie Matsuo) The College and Career Center is now on Instagram: WestviewHS_CCC ! Twitter: @WestviewHS_CCC and Facebook: search Westview College and Career Interested in a practice ACT test? The Cedar Mill library is hosting it Sunday, December 6th, 9am-‐1:30pm. Register at www.kaptest.com/class/AKKJ150060 OSAC (Office of Student Access & Completion) is the gateway to many scholarships for our students. Westview CCC is hosting four days of workshops to help with completing the OSAC application, as well as any students desiring help with Oregon Promise (the state's free community college initiative). TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY, December 8-‐9, 2015 MONDAY & TUESDAY, December 14-‐15, 2015 1:15pm, all days. You must sign up in the CCC so we can tell you what to bring to the workshops. PCC Future Connect will be in the CCC Thursday, December 10, 1:15. Future Connect is a scholarship program, which focuses on eliminating barriers to attending college, and provides on-‐going support throughout a student's time at PCC. Please sign up in the CCC. Western Oregon University will be here for onsite admission applications and decisions on Wednesday, December 16th, 1pm, in the CCC. Please sign up and get the information you'll need to be prepared for this event. Thanks! PLEASE contact me with any questions or feedback Progress Reports 12-‐week progress reports that are going home will look different than the 6-‐week progress reports in that we are now reporting summary judgement scores on specific learning targets that have been assessed. These scores will be accompanied by an overall letter grade for the class. This information will also be reported at the semester grading period. As a school we want to make sure that we provide you with all of the necessary information concerning the academic progress of your student. As a school, we are also beginning to report how your student is doing in reference to their overall behavior in their classes through BSD's student behavior targets. Who is your student's counselor? One of the many questions that continues to be asked is who is my student's counselor and where can I get this information easily. Well, thanks to one of our very supportive parents the Beaverton School District technology department worked to make this information accessible on ParentVue/StudentVue. This information can be found at the bottom of the student information page. Unfortunately, it is not available on the app but students can use their internet provider on their phone to go to the webpage.
