And behind all these goodies we still have human beings
that run a record label. And to bring you these people
nearer we start our label-special newsletter. Hopefully
every month we introduce you to a label we carry. Ask
the owner(s) some questions and offer their products
for a better price than normal. Now, I think, this sounds
cool! You will see, those label-guys are nice persons with
GOOD taste & sometimes even a GOOD humor.

I‘m in contact with Voodoo Rhythm‘s headhoncho Beatman since the very beginning of his label. And for me
he is one of the heros in music business! He not only
releases CRAZEE music, he also plays in tons of bands,
is a Reverend.. and besides this such a nice person, he
will always be in Soundflat‘s Hall of Fame!!
So, let‘s start with some questions to the BEATMAN himself (and, NO, I did not change anything...this interview is
just Beat-Man-Style) followed by his massive catalogue

What made you start a record label instead of
becoming a hairdresser or a rocket scientist?
that question way came to late into my life .. thats a
good option to get girls too.. but yes, the girls,i started
to make music to catch some skirts and then i made
a label to get girls as well.. thats deffenetly the main
reason.. others are,i was bored about the music
industry and the music in general in the 80‘s so astead
of complaining constantly i did something to change the
situation i did a label that i thought it will be different to
the mainstream labels back in the days..a more free
form label like the tape labels in the end 70‘s begin
80‘s puting out wierd crap nobody would ever produce
eather try to sell.. on the other hand nobody wanted to
release my record so i just had to do it .. deffenetly best
desition in my love so far
Is there a label philosophy behind VOODOO
RHYTHM RECORDS?
yes, dont think to much just do it.. and do what ever you
want.. no borders .. trash with style we cal it or primitive
rock‘n‘roll is one of our child or blues trash .. anyway
it all depence on my taste, im the president CEO and
Reverend behind Voodoo Rhythm ..i have 2 fantastic
workers in Tea and Nicole we work close together
with my music rights as well.. but at the end if we are
working the whole week on a product it has to go trou
my hands at the end and i deside if it goes out or not..
if it not goes out we work some more on it until we have
a proper good product.. somethimes the product is
allready finishd sometimes it needs years..its allways
different.. the same goes with the packiging and letters
and and and.. just everything..im born in switzerland
my parents are swiss so are my grandparents and the
parents from my grandparents as well.. that meant i
have this awfule swiss hard working perfection in me, it
has to be perfect or at least as we think its perfect at the
moment we do it and then the product is finishd
its like a book.. you buy one vinyl record and then you
can give it to your chindren and they give it to their
children.. you know that is a great product, has a beig
record cover as well with lots of pictures on it and
writings and and and... the best thing in the world, and
with buying a vinyl record you pay the pressing and you
pay the studio costs and you pay in that price of 13 euro
that the label can produce more of insane music.. if you
aint buy there will be no marked and everybody would
record at home and it would sound shit like Beck ... so
stick with voodoo rhythm and buy or trash so we can
produce more trash

Hasil Adkins - any of his stuff.. anything
all music by phil collins.. i would produce it and then
destroy it rightaway so it would be never on the marked
Reverend Beat-Man - surreal folk blues trash .... ehhh

What has been your proudest moment
since starting your label and what the most
disappointing?
we normaly have only good times our scale goes
up from the very start of the label in 1992 we have
cooperative bands and not so cooperative bands .. we
stick with the bands that are cooperative and are willing
to do somehting very special..
the most disapointing so far was out fight with the
copyright companie SUISA ( in germany its GEMA) we
are very bad with calculating and money and all that
stuff.. so we did from the begining on a easy but clear
game with tha bands.. royalitees and mechanicals we
payed the bands in Records not cash ... we had to
change our whole philosophy in 2010 and now we have
to make contract with the bands and deal with loyers... i
dont like that ..if i could stop it i would stop it right away
and do it old fashion way again.. handshake deals
What do you think about the digitalisation of
music?
yea much better that that CD crap but still not better that
a vinyl record, people like to be independent and free..
you see that in the networking systems like facebook,
twitter and and and.. garagepunk.com ... and its handy
to digitalice your songs put m on a stick and listen to
wherever you go.. no stupid country code nothing.. just
music.. and its free too.. how cool is that ha ?
anyway but still Vinly is much much better.. 1st if your
stick break all songs are gone, your computer crashes..

Americana Old Time Religion Folk Music Mixed Up With Western Balads!! From the desk of Reverend Beat-man: One
day I was in my office and a letter came from King Khan with a CD of Andy Dale Petty. He said Andy is a Trainer,
a boy that runs freight trains with his Guitar and travels from town to town and sings Songs... The CD he send was
probably recorded somewhere in a train or in a car... It sounded Fantastic so I put him in a Studio near where he lives
to record those 13 Songs for Voodoo Rhythm Records.Andy has a great way of playing his instrument and his voice
is sometimes so wrong that it’s Beautiful to listen too, and he’s only fucking 18 years old godamit! Andy Takes the
Roots of Woody Guthrie and Young Bob Dylan and makes them his own. On this Album there are 13 songs, including
a couple covers and Traditionals, but most of them are written by Andy himself, and they are Great Songs in the
Tradition of Americana Folk and western Ballads; with Banjo, Guitar and sometimes a sweet little church Organ that
catapults you into another dimension and pushes you into another world.

The Story of John Schooley (Austin,Texas) is a story from a man with a Heart Deep in the Blues and the left Foot
in the Dirty Rocknroll with his first band the Revelators and then with the Fantastic Hard Feelings, he did build the
ground he is walking on today Blues is Angry and Sad the same time you Hate someone because you Love him so
much and this Feeling is what Schooley brings on the Tape so perfect he has a incredible technic as a one man band

first demo, recorded live by mr. Ray collins on a tascam porta one in their rehearsal room in 2005. The rest of the
songs were recorded live onto a one track tape recorder at the hot spot recording service in willich in 2007. Live, loud,

MAMA ROSIN..:the POWER CAJUN TRIO from Geneva, Switzerland! Those young rebels sound like nothing you’ve
heard before! They live and love the Cajun Music Style, whose roots go way back to the 18th century. It was brought
to the south of the United States, to Louisiana, by the french imigrants from Canada (Arcadiens). In this new country,
fast rhythms met some slow walz, they were played on instruments like the austrian melodeon, the fiddle or the
triangle. The vocals were usually very high and loud, so even the people in the background could hear and understand
it! Mama Rosin brings this traditional music to the new century: the trio plays the Cajun music from Lafayette with
lots of rough energy. The traditional instruments are completed with drums, an electric guitar and a banjo. The Mama
Rosin style is inspired by the black-creole Blues, the Zydeco from New Orleans. Mama Rosin brings out its debutalbum on the Voodoo Rhythm Records this winter (2008). This whole adventure began with a demo-tape, “the garage
tape”, that was recorded and mixed by Pierre Omer (ex- The Dead Brothers), who also plays the guitar on two songs.
A part of this demo-tape was recorded with Bob Drake, in the Drake’s Farm (as the Dead Brothers “Wunderkammer”
album). Beat-man was swamped over by these sounds and the trio made it’s entrance in the big Voodoo Rhythm
Family!

From the dead-vibrant city of Oslo comes the disreputable enfant terrible Space Punk ensemble of Pirate Love. A
