As of July 1, 2015, The Taylor Community Library is no longer part of the Wayne
County Library system, and is now a
City of Taylor library.
We anticipate a smooth transition with
few, if any, noticeable changes.

books greatly benefit your Taylor Library. Although we can
not accept text books, condensed books or magazines,
we welcome empty CD cases.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM—
2015
Our program was off to a bang-up
start with more than 100 registrations the
first day. There’s guaranteed fun and excitement all through July! This summer you’ll
see Magicians, animals and insects, the Music Lady, a Storyteller. You can bring in an
article of clothing toTie-Dye . Each program
begins at 2:00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays from June 30 through July 30, including a craft day. The last day to record reading and receive prizes is July 31 at 4:00pm.
There lots of prizes for reading and a huge
selection of books to choose from as prizes.

There will not be a book sale in
July because not enough volunteers are available to help
set up. If you can help, call

GARDENING ALERT!!!!
There are so many late season
varieties available. In case last
year your garden choices did
not measure up to your expectations, you have a whole
new start this year. Don’t
set foot inside your local
greenhouse until you check out the informative and time saving books your Taylor Library has to offer. In Section 635,
you will find a bounty of beautifully illustrated books filled with
suggestions and ideas for spring
and summer planting in your garden and flower beds. You can look forward to colorful bouquets, tasty veggies
and crisp greens with spring and early
summer planting.

THANK YOU!
The Reading is Fundamental (RIF) and
Macy's Be Book Smart campaign is over! Last
year the Taylor Community Library received
nearly 600 books from the Be Book Smart campaign. Thank you to those who donated $3 to Macy’s
to provide a book for a child Macy's donates the full
$3 to RIF. Thank you to Macy’s and RIF for your support for children’s reading.
JUVENILE BOOK SHELF NEWS
Many of the 600 books purchased with funds
from RIF and Macy’s can be found in the juvenile section. Also, we are introducing three new encyclopedias: “Living Green” (about ecology),(a gift to your library from The Rotary Club and The Friends of the Taylor
Library), “Discovery” (for younger children), and the 2015
World Book will soon be on the shelves for your use.

MICHIGAN ACTIVITY PASS (MAP)
IS BETTER THAN EVER
Click on the balloon on our web page
and on the MAP page enter your library
location. You will see the many available places and activities available to you
within easy driving distance. Click on “GET PASS” for
the number of passes still available and make your
reservations as soon as you can. Passes to the most
popular destinations, such as the DIA and the Michigan Science Center, go quickly. Dates and times are
shown for each place. There are so many destinations to chose from you are sure to find several fun
selections. For instance, within 50 miles of the library
you will find the Yankee Air Museum, Michigan Science Center and Belle Isle Park. Passes are either
discounted or FREE with the compliments of participating organizations like your library.
RODS & REELS PROGRAM
Fishing poles and tackle boxes are
available at your library now through
September. Bring a valid library card
and check out a rod and tackle box
for a week.
INTODUCING ENTERPRISE,
THE NEW LIBRARY CATALOG
Our new catalog is “Enterprise” which replaces the old
eLibrary function. When you access your account and
look for books or other materials on the catalog computers inside the library as well as on our webpage
(taylor.lib.mi.us), you will be using the new Enterprise
catalog for your search.
OCCASIONAL TRAVEL SERIES
Taylor Community Library is pleased to host
Guest speaker Sandra Bates , presenting
“A TRIP TO ISRAEL” — An interesting up-close talk
about the journey and the destination to a land familiar
in the news but personally not known to most
of us. Thursdays, July 16 and 23, at 6:00 pm.
Light refreshments will be served.
MORE TRAVEL IDEAS
You can find some great spots here in Michigan when you
check out one of the PBS DVDs : Under the Radar
(917.74 U). These are full of suggestions and ideas on where
to go and what to see when you are traveling in Michigan
Pronunciator is a fun and FREE way to learn any
of 80 languages. Go to our webpage and
click on the pronunciator box. It will take you
to a registration page and you will be signed
up to learn any language you select. Then go
to the website http://www.pronunciator.com,
log in with your name and password and follow the instructions. The online lessons are interactive and you can work at
your level. Learn vocabulary and go on to sentences,
phrases, conversation, all at your own pace. Take a tour
and see what is available. You will be amazed. Learn
online, and get our app for your mobile device!
USED EYE GLASSES COLLECTION
Your Taylor Library is pleased to be part of The Lions Club
program for collecting used eye glasses. Look for the
marked box in the library. Your old eye glasses will be collected periodically, repaired by technicians at the Penrickton School for the
Blind, and distributed by the Lions Club to those who need them.
“ZINIO” - MAGAZINES ONLINE
A NEW SERVICE COMING SOON TO YOUR LIBRARY
Access to many popular magazines will be available online with
your Taylor Library card .
To The Friends of the Taylor Library for
their purchase of a 50” TV for the Laptop
Lounge, a new DVD Resurfacer to put our
DVDs back in circulation and a portable
DVD player for the technicians to use to
check that DVDs are playable and ready for our patrons. They
have also purchased many programs on DVD including PBS Specials, American Experience, Nova, Frontline and shows like
Downton Abbey We are very grateful for their continuing help
and generosity. Volunteers are always welcome to join this
dedicated group who gives so much to your library.

Did you know that by making donations to your Library your
books may be given to Veterans? Also we give books to
nursing home residents, hospitals for children and other
patients, juvenile homes and senior citizens organizations. Many people benefit from your donation and your Library makes good use of
each one. When you give useable items to your Taylor Community Library, your donation is always welcome. All
proceeds from all sales go to your Taylor
Library to purchase items for the Library
such as new DVDs. Your Taylor Library
benefits from all the donations sold. Your
donations are greatly appreciated! Also, we always welcome your

THANKS TO FRIENDS OF THE TAYLOR LIBRARY
We are very fortunate to have the efforts of a group of
dedicated people, The Friends of The Taylor Community Library who hold monthly book sales, and use the
proceeds for purchases to make your library more efficient and better
equipped. They accomplish the impossible every book sale day by organizing
a small mountain of books in orderly displays to suit any shopper’s preference. We are also grateful for their ongoing support in purchasing DVDs of
current movies and PBS specials such as Nova, Frontline, Masterpiece Theatre, Mystery , American Experience, and Nature as well as series such as
Downton Abbey, Poirot, Miss Marple and Foyle’s War. New DVDs are being
added as they are processed, so if you missed a PBS special you may soon
find it on the shelf in your Taylor Library. Come and browse our catalog to
find fascinating new and classic movies and TV programs in the DVD section.
The Friends of the Taylor Library hold used book sales at the Library
in the Laptop Lounge on the 3rd Saturday of each month except May,
and December. With funds raised from the book sales in 2013 and
2014, the Friends have supported your library by providing funds for:
 a Nook for your library’s use
 four adjustable tables for the StoryTime room
 new PBS series DVDs and current new movies on DVD.
 refreshments for Library events
 subscribing to Book Page and other publications for our patrons.
 a laptop computer and a digital camera for your library’s use
 books for special donation programs
 Ecology books for Ecology Reading Program
 shelf labels for shelving the Juvenile Series books
 a laminating machine for signs and notices
 complete set of Shakespeare plays on CD
