April 2015 Newsletter - Longmont Area Chamber Of Commerce
April 2015
Small Business. Big Business. Our Business.
Message from the
2015 Board Chair, Carol Shack
Kathy Weber-Harding
Kathy Weber-Harding, our
Chamber President and CEO, has
announced her resignation effective
June 1.
Serving as your Chair of the
Chamber of Commerce Board of
Directors is an honor. It’s a pleasure
to work closely with other board
members, Chamber associates and
our incredible staff. But the honor
also comes with difficult times.
Kathy’s resignation is one of those.
We’re not only losing a gifted
administrator, we’re saying goodbye
to a community leader and trusted
friend.
For decades, Kathy has been
committed to the Chamber.
Her volunteer service covered
the spectrum from member to
Ambassador to Board Member and
finally to Chair. In 2008, she was
chosen to head the Chamber full-time
as our President and CEO. Kathy
has worked tirelessly for the past
eight years to strengthen Chamber
events and to expand opportunities
for members through such programs
as Unity in the Community and
Leadership Longmont. Her
enthusiasm for the Chamber and
Longmont have been hallmarks of
her administration.
The Board of Directors is deeply
appreciative of the time, leadership
and dedication that Kathy has given
our organization. We will miss her
daily presence, but we take comfort
in knowing that Kathy will be in
Longmont cheering loudly about
Chamber successes and future
involvements. I know, also, that all
Chamber members join with me
in wishing her the very best as she
embarks on her next adventure.
Thanks, Kathy, for jobs well done.
One of those jobs always well
done is the Chamber’s Commerce
Cup Open golf tournament. The
2015 tournament will be held June
12. Golfers, duffers, teams and
sponsors already are being invited
to participate. It’s a perfect way to
enjoy an afternoon chasing white
balls soaring down green fairways.
It will also be an afternoon of fun,
networking with other members
and supporting the Longmont Area
Chamber of Commerce. Mark
your calendars now and be sure
to contact Scott Cook at scook@
longmontchamber.org or 720-8642872 for more information.
Also mark your calendars for June
1. That’s when Longmont Start-Up
Week kicks off. The schedule of
events is still being planned, but if
you have a business or you want
to know how to do business better
and bolder, you won’t want to miss
this event. More information will be
available in coming weeks.

MEMBERSHIP MATTERS –
Simple Strategies For Networking Success
The Longmont Area
Chamber of Commerce
provides over 200

designed to help you
make contacts. Everyone networks with
their own style but here are a few tips to
make every event successful.
• Know yourself, what benefits you offer,
and what you want. Prepare a “pitch” that
concisely explains what your business
does and be able to explain the potential
benefits of your products/services. Also
be able to articulate what you are looking
for.
• Be presentable: Your appearance and
demeanor represent your firm.
• Be prepared to exchange business cards:
Always keep your card on hand. After
exchanging cards, it is also helpful to
write a description of the other individual
and their position on the back of their
card.
• Branch out: Get to know as many
members of your networking circle as
possible.
• Do not let shyness hold you back: With
practice, even introverted individuals
can network confidently. A world of
opportunity is waiting for you!
