This intensive course provides the comprehensive education necessary for you to effectively and safely train your clients with ViPR™. Learn: •Scientific training principles behind ViPR™ •How to progress or regress ViPR™ for any client •How to apply ViPR™ to personal training, small group training, boot campstyle classes, •How to apply the scientific training principles to other training modalities. Upon registration, you will be enrolled in the online module 1 which must be completed by June 15, in order to become fully qualified. ViPR module 1 is worth an additional .3 CEC in addition to the 7 credit hours of the live workshop. A ViPR™ course manual will be provided at the course. AFLCA CFT Examiners – AFLCA Certified Fitness Trainer Preparatory Course Session code: A1-02 This interactive 8-hour course will prepare candidates for aspects of the Certified Fitness Trainer theory and practical examinations. All CFT performance standards and core competencies will be covered including: anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, client assessment, injury prevention, and nutrition. Practical exam requirements will also be covered with many opportunities to gain confidence and proficiency administering the assessments and pre-screening protocols. Candidates will be eligible to register in any AFLCA - CFT exams following this course including the theory and practical sessions being held at Mount Royal University May 31. This course is available to those who have met the entrance criteria for the AFLCA Certified Fitness Trainer including: existing AFLCA Resistance Training Leaders, and those students or graduates of recognized post-secondary education programs. Please contact the AFLCA to confirm eligibility. Session code: A1-03 Lesley will lead you through practical, safe and appropriate movements designed specifically for the entire older adult age range. This interactive session is targeted for leaders working with older adults within the community and seniors’ facilities. The adaptable functional exercises included in the manual are designed to enhance your current programming. Highlights include: AFLCA’s new Falls Prevention supplement (launched in this workshop), suggested exercises, safety considerations, accommodating special conditions and an opportunity to network. This session will complement the AFLCA Fitness for the Older Adult certification. 12:00 – 4:00 pm Susan Yackulic and Mandy Johnson – Urban Poling Course Session code: A1-04 Urban Poling, a form of Nordic walking, is an ideal outdoor activity for people of all ages and abilities, from super sedentary to super fit. Like cross-country skiing without the skis, Urban Poling gently works 90% of the body’s muscles. Ideal for core strengthening, Urban Poling burns up to 46% more calories than walking alone. The course will highlight some of over 100 research studies that have been conducted on Nordic walking. The design features of the poles and correct adjustment will be explained. The unique technique will be practiced, progressing through four basic steps. Instructional techniques will be introduced as well as how to troubleshoot common technique errors in participants. Tips and strategies for developing an on-going Nordic walking program will be discussed. Plyo-H2O is a non-choreographed aquatic exercise class delivering intervals of high intensity plyometric drills and active recovery. She is going to take the idea of music in your classes to the next level and provide you with a fun visual experience of your favourite cycling songs. The workshop will include music videos and cycling clips plus tips on how to add videos to your cycle class! This workshop will review cycling guidelines, profiles and drills, plus guide you with idea on class design and delivery. Jackie will help you to utilize the music, pick your base moves, progress those moves, and finally build a class full of 32-count blocks you can take to your deep water exercise class. Judy Cudrak, B.Sc., B.Mgmt., is an AFLCA Trainer of fitness leaders. She is the YMCA representative on the AFLCA Board of Directors, and provides guidance and mentorship to YMCA Trainers through her YMCA educator role.
