ViPR™ bridges the gap between movement and strength, easily making it the most innovative fitness break through in years.

This intensive course provides the comprehensive education necessary
for you to effectively and safely train your clients with ViPR™. Learn:
•Scientific training principles behind ViPR™
•How to progress or regress ViPR™ for any client
•How to apply ViPR™ to personal training, small group training, boot campstyle classes,
•How to apply the scientific training principles to other training modalities.
Upon registration, you will be enrolled in the online module 1 which
must be completed by June 15, in order to become fully qualified.
ViPR module 1 is worth an additional .3 CEC in addition to the 7 credit
hours of the live workshop. A ViPR™ course manual will be provided
at the course.
AFLCA CFT Examiners – AFLCA Certified
Fitness Trainer Preparatory Course
Session code: A1-02
This interactive 8-hour course will prepare candidates for aspects of
the Certified Fitness Trainer theory and practical examinations. All CFT
performance standards and core competencies will be covered including: anatomy, exercise physiology, biomechanics, exercise prescription,
client assessment, injury prevention, and nutrition. Practical exam
requirements will also be covered with many opportunities to gain confidence and proficiency administering the assessments and pre-screening protocols. Candidates will be eligible to register in any AFLCA - CFT
exams following this course including the theory and practical sessions
being held at Mount Royal University May 31. This course is available
to those who have met the entrance criteria for the AFLCA Certified Fitness Trainer including: existing AFLCA Resistance Training Leaders, and
those students or graduates of recognized post-secondary education
programs. Please contact the AFLCA to confirm eligibility.

Lesley will lead you through practical, safe and appropriate movements
designed specifically for the entire older adult age range. This interactive session is targeted for leaders working with older adults within the
community and seniors’ facilities. The adaptable functional exercises
included in the manual are designed to enhance your current programming. Highlights include: AFLCA’s new Falls Prevention supplement
(launched in this workshop), suggested exercises, safety considerations,
accommodating special conditions and an opportunity to network.
This session will complement the AFLCA Fitness for the Older Adult
certification.

Poling Course

Urban Poling, a form of Nordic walking, is an ideal outdoor activity for
people of all ages and abilities, from super sedentary to super fit. Like
cross-country skiing without the skis, Urban Poling gently works 90%
of the body’s muscles. Ideal for core strengthening, Urban Poling burns
up to 46% more calories than walking alone. The course will highlight
some of over 100 research studies that have been conducted on Nordic
walking. The design features of the poles and correct adjustment will
be explained. The unique technique will be practiced, progressing
through four basic steps. Instructional techniques will be introduced as
well as how to troubleshoot common technique errors in participants.
Tips and strategies for developing an on-going Nordic walking program
will be discussed. Poles will be provided for the session and can be
purchased separately at a discounted conference rate.

will be a blockbuster! This session combines the latest in H.I.I.T. training

kind of way. Our focus will be three short intense workouts (Mad Gluteus

Athletes turn towards plyometric training to achieve faster sprints, more
powerful throws and higher jumps. Discuss the parallels between aquatic
and land based plyometric training and learn which plyometric drills are
recommended for improved performance in field sports, court sports, winter
sports and more. Plyo-H2O is a non-choreographed aquatic exercise class
delivering intervals of high intensity plyometric drills and active recovery.
The plyometric drills are designed to improve sports related skills including,
vertical jumps, continuous jumps, vertical power, lateral explosiveness, and
quick change in direction. The active recovery intervals feature suspended
movements and core training. Plyometric training is an advanced
progression: proceed with caution.

Jessica is part of the Much Music/MTV generation and loves nothing more
than the idea of watching videos of her favourite songs. She is going to
take the idea of music in your classes to the next level and provide you with
a fun visual experience of your favourite cycling songs. The workshop will
include music videos and cycling clips plus tips on how to add videos to your
cycle class! This workshop will review cycling guidelines, profiles and drills,

Generate intensity in your aquatic cardio classes without compromising your
participants’ safety. Speed is only one of the numerous options to adding
variety and increasing intensity in water exercise classes. Discuss which
exercises work, don’t work, and which to avoid altogether to develop a class

will redefine your participant’s fascial experience! Learn how to unlock the
body for optimal movement and how to decrease the risk of injury, enhance

warrior within you. Perfect flowing sequences that challenge balance,

There is more to developing choreography than just linking moves together.
Jackie will help you to utilize the music, pick your base moves, progress
those moves, and finally build a class full of 32-count blocks you can take
to your deep water exercise class. Everything but the kitchen sink is packed
into this deep water workout! Varying tempos and planes of movement,
intervals within intervals, and building block choreography comes together
in a grand finale of four 32-count combinations.

Steve Norris PhD, is the Executive Vice-President and Chief Sport Officer at the
WinSport Winter Sport Institute based in Calgary, Alberta, and is charged with bringing together world-leading performance and development programming along with
the incredible facilities afforded by Canada Olympic Park, the Canmore Nordic Centre,
and the Olympic Speed Skating Oval. Unique in its vision and purpose, WinSport
Canada (a not-for-profit organization) has become the yardstick by which the world
measures Olympic legacies and winter sport development programs.
Judy Cudrak, B.Sc., B.Mgmt., is an AFLCA Trainer of fitness leaders. She is the
YMCA representative on the AFLCA Board of Directors, and provides guidance and
mentorship to YMCA Trainers through her YMCA educator role. Judy is a Keiser
National Trainer, Stott Pilates instructor, Fusion instructor, certified Level 1 Ashtanga
Yoga instructor, and has been an innovative and energetic land and aquatic exercise
leader for over 29 years, bringing her passion and love for fitness to every class and
course she teaches.
Suzette O’Byrne, BSc Kinesiology, is a Keiser Master Trainer, TRX senior instructor,
Yoga therapist and the author of Yoga for the Core: Finding Stability in an Unstable
Environment. In addition to teaching at conferences, workshops and teacher training
programs throughout North America, Suzette is a faculty member with Mount Royal
University’s Yoga Therapy program in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Michelle Felzmann has covered all avenues of fitness in her 20 year career. She
is a Bender Ball master trainer, TRX master instructor, international fitness presenter
and has 10 years of experience in fitness programming. With experience in fitness
competitions, television and exercise videos, Michelle is the total package!
Simone Hodgkinson has been involved in the fitness industry for 26 years and
with an extensive background in education, fitness and Yoga, she is passionate about
moving intelligently. She is a personal trainer, group fitness instructor, the Director of
Physical Yoga, the Provincial Group Fitness Director for Spa Lady, a Bender Ball master
trainer and a ViPRTM Pro Trainer. She has written several fitness manuals, produced
videos and written for national newspapers and fitness media.
Mandy Johnson is the Alberta ambassador for Vancouver-based Urban Poling Inc.,
travelling the province to share her “passion for poling.” Mandy earned a BA (Specialized Honours, Physical Education) from York University and a diploma in Adult Education from George Brown College. Mandy has presented internationally and in Canada
from coast to coast on topics related to active living and active transportation.
Lisa Kingston has been involved in the fitness industry for over 25 years. Currently
the offsite Group Fitness Director for the Calgary Jewish Community Centre (under
Heavens Fitness) and the Director of Education for Heavens Fitness, her experience
in the industry has been mentored under internationally renowned fitness expert
Helen Vanderburg. Instructor, director and manager, Lisa is also a Master Trainer the
Fusion-Fitness-Training program and a member of the Canadian Master Trainer team
for the Bosu. Her high energy and enthusiastic presentations and classes are not to
be missed.
Brett Klika is the Director of Athletic Performance for Todd Durkin’s Fitness Quest 10
in San Diego and has worked with thousands of youth and elite athletes. He holds a
bachelor’s degree in exercise science and has been published in a variety of academic
textbooks and industry publications. Brett is the 2013 IDEA Personal Trainer of the
Year, a dynamic international speaker, and a consultant to many youth based fitness
organizations.
Jackie Lebeau is currently the Assistant Director for Fitness at Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore, MD where she personal trains and teaches a myriad of group
classes. Jackie is a trainer for AEA and provides continuing education credits for
fitness professionals holding ACE, AFAA and AEA certifications. Jackie has presented
master classes, fitness lectures, instructor workshops, and learn-to-teach classes at the
local, state, and national level.
Marc Lebert, owner of Lebert Fitness Inc. is a Taekwondo Black Belt , a Certified
NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) practitioner and international presenter. He was
the 2010 Silver Lining Entrepreneur of the Year, named Top 100 Fitness Entrepreneurs
in the industry, and a finalist for Canfitpro’s Fitness Professional of the Year award
in 2012. He is the developer of the Lebert EQUALIZER™, BUDDY SYSTEM™ and
STRETCH STRAP™, portable and versatile tools used in many of the world’s leading
clubs, boot camps, military physical training facilities, school/athletic programs and
home gyms in over 30 countries.
Lesley McEwan’s endless pursuit in promoting, delivering and supporting healthy
active lifestyles has evolved into a life-long commitment! Lesley is the AFLCA Older
Adult Project Coordinator and has been delivering the AFLCA Ever Active Adults and
Fitness for the Older Adults programs for over 10 years. Leading a variety of fitness
classes herself, she possesses a deep passion for getting and keeping older adults
active!
Marjorie O’Connor, BEd., ACSM, AFLCA Trainer of fitness leaders, Can-Fit-Pro and
Stott Pilates certified and Nike Athlete, is the owner of Fit International. A respected
international fitness presenter and aerobic champion, Marjorie was honoured with
the “Woman of Vision”, the “Women Of Distinction” award in Athletics, Recreation
and Fitness, the recipient of the “Mall Peepre” memorial award and the “Celebration
of Women in Fitness” award from the Running Room. Recently Marjorie was inducted
into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame as a recipient of the Alberta Centennial Salute for
Sport and Recreation.
Anita Parker, BSc, BEd, RYT 200, AFLCA Trainer – begins each day with a glass of

IDEA Fitness Instructor of the Year, 2006/1996 CanFitPro Presenter of the Year, 1996
