Turn It Up, It’s Monday!
Yeap, it is a Monday, for sure; the
phones have not stopped ringing since
the door open up this morning. “I need
this or that, and I had all weekend to
think about it so I need it now!” Oh,
wow... I’m going to rename the first
workday of the week to “Turn-It-Up
Monday”.
Personally, I have a YouTube file
called Vietnam Era tunes turned up ‘til
I was asked to shut my office door.
See, works fine... Turn it up and Tune
it out! Music has always been my own
relaxing tool.
We played at four different venues the last two days from Frankenmuth to a Pig Roast at Houghton Lake.
I am going to tell you, we don’t all listen to the same music. Keighan rode
with us to Houghton Lake and back
and I realized that a nine-year-old
doesn’t enjoy or relax to the same
music as his sixty-year-old grandpa. I
listened as he sang word-for-word to a
song being aired on a top-40 radio
station that he had tuned into, a song I
didn’t understand a single word of.
Come on, Grandpa, do I need to take
you to get those hearing aids? Darn,
the ears are going too! I was told to
turn it up a dozen times on the trip
north on I-75.
Yeap, same venue (music) being
used as the same tool, relaxing, but at
whole different tune! We do have an
awful lot of things in common, love of
football, work ethic, love of music.
Things are different for our generations… we went and got some football equipment for him last week; the
helmets are looking like the top of a
space suit, and who ever heard of a
lime-green mouthpiece and pink
gloves? Thank the good Lord that they
were out of those in his size; he had to
settle for Batman! Keighan’s work
ethic is based on what he can get done
on his iPad or laptop, no hammer and
nails for him YET!
Music remains constant and the
louder, the better. Things change yet
things remain the same. Grab on with
both hands! TURN IT UP, IT IS MONDAY!!!
See you out to the Old Gas Tractor
Show this weekend.

What the Chamber is Working On For You
July saw the launch of our free Facebook
marketing campaign: Corky the Construction
Cone. Corky is acting as our Chamber ambassador, visiting member businesses, organizations and community attractions to highlight
all that Chesaning has to offer despite the
ongoing construction hassles. Feel free to call
the office to schedule a visit from Corky to
coincide with any special events you may
wish to publicize on Facebook!
Football Frenzy tickets are now available
for purchase, both at the Chamber office and
from your Chamber board members. The
tickets run $10 a piece and there is a “Buy 2,
Get 1 Free” special which is done by online
registration of the two purchased tickets’
access codes. Tickets will be on sale now
through October 17 and the first chance to
win will be with the professional football
game scores from Sunday, October 30, 2016.
Each ticket includes 3 football teams per
week from October 30th through January 1st
with chances to win for highest and lowest
scores of the three teams combined; weekly
prizes range from $20 to $100 with $4000 in
total cash prizes! Would you like to help out
with this easy fundraiser? Kate will be happy
to deliver a pack of tickets to you.
Speaking of fundraisers, our next
Owosso Poker Room dates are September 15
-18 (please note the last newsletter incorrectly listed them as 3-6, which will be the
Poker Room days in November). We invite
you to consider volunteering a few hours to
help at the Poker Room for both sets of
scheduled dates. We need three people at
the Poker Room to represent the Chamber at
all times and are seeking a few who enjoy
being “night owls” from 9:30pm to 2am! It’s
not difficult work and allows for time to socialize with your fellow Chamber members.
Speak with Ron Ebenhoeh or call the office to
sign up if you are interested.
Our annual Christmas Candlewalk is taking shape with lots of behind-the-scenes
preparation by our dedicated planning committee. Have an idea you’d like to share for
this year’s event? Please speak with our committee chairperson, Bobbi McIntyre at Studio
124, or email the office with suggestions.
Welcome, New Member: Granny’s Kitchen LLC
As you have seen in the local news,
Crossroads Café in Oakley recently changed
ownership and has become Granny’s Kitchen.
We are pleased to announce their membership with the chamber and are excited to
help promote their new endeavor! “Serving
good, old-fashioned home cookin’, just like
Grandma makes” is the mission of owners
Charlotte & Mike Brady and Christine & Glen
Stiegemeier. Char and Chris are sisters who
attended Chesaning Union Schools and are
fulfilling their dream of restaurant ownership.
Granny’s Kitchen is open Monday
through Saturday from 6am until 8pm and
Sundays from 7am until 7pm. They strive to
buy their restaurant food and supplies locally
as much as possible, supporting local farmers, Frank’s Supermarket and Nixon’s Meats.
Be sure to stop by Granny’s Kitchen for a
meal and wish them the best of luck for
many successful years in business! Take-Out
orders can be made by calling 989-845-4941.
Thank you to Char, Mike, Chris and Glen
for supporting the Chesaning Chamber of
Commerce with your membership and your
commitment to the Oakley and Chesaningarea communities!

Happy 50th Anniversary, PNC Bank!
Chesaning’s local PNC Bank branch,
found at 202 Pine Street, has been helping
customers with their banking needs since the
mid-1960’s. The branch has undergone many
name changes over the years, beginning as
Chesaning State Bank, then Frankenmuth
Bank & Trust, followed by New Century Bank,
First of America and National City. In 2009,
the bank became PNC as we know it today.
According to Branch Manager, Shane
Brion, the current staff has over 60 years of
combined banking experience in addition to
over 100 years of experience assisting customers. The branch offers full service banking for businesses and consumers, night deposit for local businesses, and drive-thru access. Recent branch upgrades have allowed
them to offer a Deposit-friendly ATM that
gives back any denomination as well as the
ability to print debit cards on site! The
Chesaning PNC also has both a dedicated
Loan Officer and Financial
Advisor to help meet all
of your financial goals.
For Consumer Banking inquiries, please
contact Marisa Schlorf, Branch Sales and Service Associate, at 989-845-2020 or [email protected]. For Business Banking
inquiries, please contact Shane Brion, Branch
Manager, at [email protected] or 989845-2020. Stop by PNC and you will be
greeted by a cheerful, welcoming team who
are ready to help you with all of your banking
needs.
The Chesaning Chamber of Commerce
wishes the Chesaning branch of PNC bank a
very happy Golden Anniversary and the best
of luck for another successful half-century!
Thank you for your continued support of
Chamber programs and for providing great
banking services to the community of
Chesaning and surrounding area!
Homes by Stoddard’s Celebrates 50 Years!
Now into their fourth generation, the
Stoddard family has provided quality, affordable housing to Mid-Michigan for 50 years!
Dale Stoddard, Randy’s father, began the
business in 1966 with little more than a 40acre soybean field and an idea. Building a
manufactured housing community in the
Chesaning area had never been done before.
One of Dale's first jobs after getting out
of the service in 1955 was to work for
Roycraft homes, a manufactured home
builder in Chesaning. In 1965 he purchased a
40-acre farm on the northwest corner of M52
and Peet Rd. Beginning with two sites,
Stoddard Mobile Court has grown to 125
sites. They are currently developing building
sites in the Indian Rock Subdivision in
Owosso, in addition to individual projects for
customers throughout Mid-Michigan.
Dale retired in 1993, selling the business
to his sons. One of the first things the second
generation did was to divide the sales center
from the manufactured housing community,
providing a better location for displaying the
multi-sectional homes. The single-section
homes are still displayed at the original
site. Because of their abilities with on-site
building of garages, porches and
other personal touches, the modular, or BOCA code, has become a
large part of their business.
Stoddard's offers a broad selection of different manufacturers to
be able to better serve the wide variety of
homebuyers in Mid-Michigan, from under
1000 sq. ft. to over 3000 sq. ft., from single
story ranch homes to two and 1/2 stories.
In 1997 Randy and Eileen's son, Nick,
graduated and joined the business. Nick does
all of the excavating for customers’ on-site
needs; his expertise includes septic systems,
foundations, driveways, fill sand, and more.
Their ability to maintain a fleet of backhoes,
bulldozers, and dump trucks as well as support vehicles, offers customers the assurance
of prompt service, without the hassle of
scheduling conflicts with subcontractors.
Thank you to Homes by Stoddard’s for
their tireless behind-the-scenes support of
Chamber events, community partnerships
and economic development. We also wish to
take a moment to share our gratitude for
Randy’s service as our Chamber president!
Best wishes for all things good in the future!

“Buy Nearby” Weekend—October 1 & 2, 2016
Did you know that 1 in 4 Michigan jobs
are supported by Michigan retailers? And
half of every dollar spent in a Michigan store
goes back into Michigan’s economy? There
are over 110,000 retail locations in Michigan
supporting over 866,000 jobs! These are all
facts shared by the Michigan Retailer Association on their “Buy Nearby” website.
According to the site, “Shopping at
nearby retailers means more jobs, thriving
communities and a stronger Michigan economy”, which is a fact well-known by our own
chamber members who are part of the retail
industry locally.
The Michigan Retailer Association invites
you to participate in their annual celebration
of the Buy Nearby campaign during the “I Buy
Nearby Weekend” scheduled for the first
weekend of October. They encourage local
businesses to “start getting ready now for
your October 1 & 2 weekend of special pro-

SVSU Chesaning Survey Results Available Online
The results of the Chesaning community
survey conducted by the Saginaw Valley
State University students this past spring are
available for public viewing at the Village
website. Visit the Village webpage at
www.villageofchesaning.org and select the
link to the SVSU Marketing Survey to read
through the data collected; there are a variety of opinions and emotions about the past,
present and future of Chesaning shared by
the local residents, businesses owners, community leaders and school employees.
During last month's Task Force meeting,
a SWOT (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats) Analysis exercise was conducted resulting in preliminary goals and
objectives being proposed to make use of the
information gathered. The Village is looking
to develop a list of people who are interested
in participating in developing and implementing a strategic plan for Chesaning. Please let
Troy Feltman know if you want to be part of
this process by emailing him at [email protected] or call 845-3800.
