The U.S. Civil Rights Act of 1968 made it
illegal to refuse to sell or rent a place to live
to anyone based on race, color, sex, religion,
national origin, familial status or disability. But
that didn’t prevent discrimination.

Watch! Bid! Buy! The TV 30 Auction Rewind
relives the moments and memories of the
TV 30 Auction. For thirty years WGTE, or
Channel 30 as it was known then, annually
dedicated more than a week of programming
to fundraising with a live, televised auction.
Staff members and an enthusiastic corps of
volunteers planned, organized and auctioned
off to the highest bidder a variety of products
and services donated by local and national
businesses.
This 30-minute film took a nostalgic look back at the madcap 30-year history of the
Great Channel 30 Buy-In, later the TV 30 Auction, made possible with generous support
from KeyBank.
This program is a walk down memory lane
as it travels back to the first ever “Buy In” in
1968 to the “Last Great Auction” of 1998.
You will meet some of the Auction’s most
dedicated and memorable volunteers and
hear the stories of all the fun, food and
friendships, as told by those who made the
TV 30 Auction a true Toledo Story.
