Saleen S7 in Southwest Airlines Commercial: November 8, 2015 Text by: Betsy Beyer While at the Mustang Club of Charlotte County Car Show in Punta Gorda, Florida on Sunday, November 8, 2015, I was watching my Pittsburgh Steelers vs. the Oakland Raiders NFL game. This was done by streaming the local Pittsburgh NBC station through my home internet to my cell phone. I was surprised to see a Saleen S7 in a Southwest Airlines Commercial. I was happy to find the commercial on ispot.tv to confirm my sighting! The Saleen S7 was Steve Saleen’s S7. http://www.ispot.tv/ad/AwNQ/southwest-airlines-car-rental By the way, my Pittsburgh Steelers won with a tie breaking field goal with 4 seconds left. The bad news is that we lost our quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, to an ankle injury in the 4th quarter. The good news is that he returned on SALEEN OWNERS AND ENTHUSIASTS CLUB AUTUMN EDITION 2015 3 WWW.SOEC.ORG SALEEN CELEBRATES 19th ANNUAL CAR SHOW AND OPEN HOUSE: September 26, 2015 Another successful Saleen Show is in the books and was better than ever Text by: Saleen Media Photos and captions by: John Rocksvold For over 30 years, Saleen has set the precedent for performance and innovation in the performance vehicle market. For 19 of those years, Saleen has celebrated their customers, friends, and employees with an annual car show and open house. Saturday, September 26, 2015 the 19th Annual Saleen Car Show and Open House was held at the Saleen Headquarters in Southern California. Thousands of people enjoyed over 150 Saleen vehicles from all over the country. Saleen Foxbody Mustangs to Saleen S7s and everything in between were in attendance. Last year, spectators were treated to their first look at the Saleen GTX Tesla. This year, Steve Saleen cruised in driving a 2015 302 Black Label sprayed in Saleen Signature Beryllium Metallic paint. Above: Shant Meshefedjian’s beautiful 1989 convertible #89-0340. Below: Ivan Quevedo’s S351 Supercharged Coupe #94-0036. "This event is a staple in the Saleen world," said Steve Saleen. "We have people from all over the world registering for the show almost a year in advance.“ This year's longest distance traveler came all the way from the Netherlands for the show. With next year’s event being the 20th Anniversary of the Saleen Car Show and Open House, Saleen is expected to go bigger and better than ever before. For more information, visit SaleenShow.com. Below: The 2015 Saleen Auto Show, like past shows, was an amazing event. Steve, Molly, and the Saleen crew, with a little help from the SOEC gang, organized another great show. AUTUMN EDITION 2015 7 WWW.SOEC.ORG Sturgis Mustang Rally, Sturgis South Dakota: September 1-6, 2015 Text by: Betsy Beyer Photos by Rudy & Betsy Beyer Tuesday, the 9th Annual Sturgis Mustang Rally opened with a Golf Outing and Golf Banquet. Wednesday's events included the BF Goodrich Autocross Driving School, Ford Performance Racing Schools, Gateway Classic Mustang Ride-Alongs, and Military Tribute Day with a tribute run to the Black Hills National Cemetery. Wednesday afternoon Vic Eubanks, Croftgate Jersey Car Care Products, had a "car washing race" with Leland Hollis. Vic thought he won, but the judge found some bugs! (Vic is a Saleen owner so I was rooting for him!) One small cap full of Croftgate Wash & Wax, one gallon of water, and one rag is all it takes to wash a car. Yes, it really works! When finished, all the dirt is in the bucket of water, and the car and rag are clean! Vic and Merideth are distributors of CrofgateUSA high performance eco-responsible car care products. They have everything from waterless car wash and detailing products to low-water wash and wax. Their website is www.croftgatejersey.com and their email is [email protected]. Wednesday evening featured the Mustang Rodeo. Traffic cones and kids’ stick ponies stood in for the horses. Participants had to rope the horses and toss a few bean bags to score points with prizes for the top 3 Mustangs. After the Rodeo, a 9-Ball Tournament was held at the Knuckle Saloon. Thursday was the day for the Fun Run that went to Sturgis Scott Peterson Ford, drive to Deadwood on Boulder Canyon Road, parking at the old train depot, pistol shooting competition at the Dakota Territory Guns, travel to Lead, through Spearfish Canyon, lunch at Latchstring Inn, stop at Roughlock Falls Picnic Area, drive through Spearfish, and back to Sturgis. Thursday evening featured the Launch Box Competition. Individual competitors started in the designated Launch Box and had to stop in Stop Box, just 60 feet away. This was a test of acceleration and braking. Following the Launch Box competition, the Burnout Competition was held. Driver had to produce smoke for at least 30-seconds with a maximum of 90-seconds. Points were awarded for Instant Smoke, Constant Revolutions, Driver Control, Constant Smoke, Use of Burnout Box, and Crowd Reaction. Friday was the day for the Black Hills Poker Run. Participants collected stamps at designated stops through Rapid City, Keystone (Mount Rushmore area), Hill City, and Custer. There was no time limit to return. This allowed for stops at Mount Rushmore and Crazy Horse Monument. Poker Hands were drawn on Sunday. Friday afternoon the 1st round of the Autocross Competition was held at the Thunder Dome. The Dyno was available to compete for the most horsepower. Friday evening Barrel Racing, Drifting Competition, and Evening Social featuring Comedy Hypnotist Bruce Black were held at the Thunder Dome. Saturday the judged Show & Shine was held in downtown Sturgis, followed by a parade on Main Street, Loud Pipes Contest in front of the Loud American Roadhouse, and Mustang Drag Racing at the Sturgis Dragway. Sunday the Autocross Competition finals were completed, Poker Run participants drew poker hands, and all registered participants rolled the dice for a chance to roll “SALEEN” to win the Sturgis Mustang Rally Saleen Mustang. No one rolled “SALEEN”, so there was an auction for a Saleen held after the Sunday banquet. Sunday evening the Awards Banquet was held at the Thunder Dome, followed by an auction of special rally items. Steve Saleen was the speaker for the evening. He addressed the crowd and presented a video featuring Saleens in the Movies. Steve was particular to make sure the sound system was turned up to give everyone the full rumbling effect of all the Saleen scenes. Awards for the Show and Shine and other competitions were presented at the end of the evening. Tuesday, August 30 - Sunday, September 4, 2016 will be the 10th Annual Sturgis Mustang Rally. Plans for the 2016 event started 2 weeks after the 2015 event. http://sturgismustangrally.com 8 AUTUMN EDITION 2015 SALEEN OWNERS AND ENTHUSIASTS CLUB SALEEN ALLEY SALEEN OWNERS AND ENTHUSIASTS CLUB AUTUMN EDITION 2015 9 WWW.SOEC.ORG Left: Steve Saleen, Jackie & Duane Olson with their 2015 Black Label Saleen 302 #025.
