Chapter 309 has been granted permission to sell baked goods during two of the mornings of the Three Chapter Arizona Outing Marcia Foster has agreed to chair this bake sale. The goal is to sell small plates of muffins - perhaps 3 on a plate - some mini loafs and other baked breakfast type of goods. Later a note will be sent, with some suggestions for items, arrangements, and how we will price them. We will give all proceeds to our charity. It is our hope that many will participate in our bake sale and support this project. We also hope that many of those at the event will join for coffee and one of our pastries. Barth produced his all-aluminum trailers in his Milford, Indiana, factory from 1963 until 1968, when he sold the company to Mike Umbaugh. The company’s history can be traced to Bob Barth, who owned the Beeline Trailer Company. In 1963, Barth left Beeline to form the Barth Trailer Company, which was founded on the principle of building quality all-aluminum travel trailers. Barth’s sales plummeted during and after the 1973 energy crisis as did the sales of all motorhomes. The company emerged from the crisis and altered its long-term vision by dedicating itself to manufacturing custom coaches designed for commercial purposes like mobile offices, medical support vehicles, dental labs, libraries, and remote TV production units. Throughout the 1980s and into the 1990s, Barth continued to manufacture motorhomes and specialized motor coaches but eventually ceased operations. September 2013 Page 3 Larry & Barbara Laursen enjoyed this wonderful area Mountain Views at Rivers Edge is located in a large alpine valley along the side of the Rio Grande River. There were some stunningly beautiful camping sites along that river. The park is located three miles south of Creede, CO, a former silver mining town that was started in the 1890’s and continued to produce silver until about 1970’s. It is now a tourist town at 8,600 feet of elevation. It has a rather unique location at the mouth of the Willow Creek Canyon where all the mining activity took place. The road through Creede, CO 149 goes from South Fork to Gunnison is called the Silver Thread Highway. We came from the north Gunnison and passed over Slumgullion Pass at 11,560 feet and the Continental Divide at 10,898 feet. We took the Bachelor’s Loop Scenic Mining Loop. This loop takes you from downtown, (straight ahead in the picture to the right), on about a 17 mile loop up the Willow Creek Canyon past several former mines that literally hang on the sides of the mountains. When you reach the top you can see the former Bachelor’s Town-site, were about 1,000 people lived in the early 1900’s and there is hardly a trace of anything today. You return past the old cemetery on the mountain over looking Creede. We also visited some waterfalls in the area. Beautiful RV park. Downtown Creede Colorado, with great restaurants and shopping. Tech notes ……... I started searching for the response to: While in storage, and on shore power, need you turn off the refrigerator or keep it on electric? To be clear I refer to a dual power type. After further research the responses seem to be about 50/50. Some say that: "RV fridge's have acid in the cold packs and when they are turned off the acid separates from the other chemicals in the cold packs and settles. And it starts to eat the metal in the cold pack till it eats through. Left on it'll last 15 to 20 years. Turned off every year you'll be lucky to get 5 years out of them." Others have just the opposite: "I don’t think you will see any difference in the life of the unit. The liquid, ammonia water solution, will remain in the lower section and the hydrogen gas will remain in the upper section when not running. Most predictions are 10-15 years for older units." So there you are - the unit in our 2000 Imp. may well be on it's last gasps. I'll continue to turn it off during storage. Thanks to those from both Chapter 419 & Monocoers who responded to Internet questions.
