Checking In
June 15
CABARRUS COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY
Summer Reading Begins Monday, June 15th!
VOLUME 7, ISSUE 6
Summer Movie Series
Take a break from the heat and
cool off with a free film!
Mt. Pleasant - Sat., June 13 • 12:30pm
The Maze Runner (PG-13)
Join us for a FREE viewing of the
action-packed sci-fi thriller, The
Maze Runner, complete with locally
grown popcorn!
Did you know that the Cabarrus County Public Library offers a
Summer Reading Program for every age? This year’s themes
are all about heroes: Every Hero Has a Story (Birth-Age 12),
Unmask! (Teens), and Escape the Ordinary (Adults).
Beginning June 15th, you can pick up a reading log for your
age division at any of our four library branches. It doesn’t
matter if you’re reading alone, reading to a child, or even
listening to a book on audio — it all counts towards the
completion of your reading log hours! Those who complete
their hours by August 15th will receive a FREE book!
The benefits of participating in a library Summer Reading
program include prevention of the “summer slide” learning
loss for students, encouragement to develop reading as a
regular activity, and engagement in fun events and
educational programs that reinforce lifelong learning as a
desirable behavior. Reluctant readers can be drawn in by the
literacy-based activities, and regular exposure over the
summer helps all children maintain cognitive activity while
generating interest in books and educational resources.
Ample opportunities for teens and adults to develop new
interests and hobbies are also a major component! The best
part? All library programs, including Summer Reading, are
free and open to the public!
Look inside for more free, family-friendly programs,
performances, and contests going on all summer long!
All programs are free and open to the public!
Registration may be required.
Please contact the library for details.
