PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
The LISRA September 29 Fall Car Show, brought together all
of the elements that make our Show one of the best on Long
Island. The weather Gods gave us a near perfect day, bright sun, a light
breeze and moderate temperatures. Although, membership is down,
the volunteer spirit more than made up for the lack of numbers.
Everyone including wives and significant others pulled together to produce a fabulous show. A
Presidential thanks to all for taking the lead and filling in where needed. This was our first show back
on our field. Hopefully, the grass will continue to fill in and eliminate the dust that caused concern
for some show car participants and vendors. The Hansen Home Design Car Show and Bike Run for
DDI was rained out the week before, which caused me to split my time. I apologize for missing the
morning. Arriving around noon, I couldn't be more proud of how the Club pulled together and had
the show running beautifully. Changes for this show included turning the main tent, moving the food
vendors, mounting the speakers on existing polls and setting up Tom Ingoglia's club store in its own
tent. This all proved that once in a while change is positive. I don't want to forget anyone, so kudos
to all that helped.
The winds of time continued to blow. My pool is still uncovered, yet Marion is
starting to plan the Christmas Party. Please complete the Christmas Party form and return it as
directed.
Nominations now complete, it appears that the Board will remain intact for next
year, assuming there are no mass write-in votes.
The Newsletter, "The Distributor," and the club "Journal" are proving to be a positive
signature of the Club. Please try to help the editors of both publications by providing leads for future
ads.

MEMBERSHIP
Dear Fellow Members:
The total number of active LISRA members is 117. There have been no new
members since the last publication of The Distributor. However, three
former members have renewed.
The LISRA Car Show & Swap Meet was a great success as always. This is
attributed to the extraordinary cooperation and hard work of our members.
It is also an indication that the hobby of Street Rodding is more than alive
and well. Considering the many other car shows on the same date, we were
pleased with the number of show cars, vendors, and spectators.
It is always a pleasure to share accomplishments, awards and honors of our
members. I am encouraging the more modest members who have been
recognized for their street rod build or their personal contribution to the
hobby/sport of street rodding to share that information with me so that others
can be informed via the newsletter.
The 2013-14 LISRA ROSTER was distributed to those in attendance at the
September general meeting. They have been sent to the out-of-state
members as well. If you have not received your copy to date, please advise
me.
I believe we are all appreciative of the Indian Summer with clear and sunny
days ideal for detailing, cruising, and simply enjoying our passion for street
rodding. Enjoy the opportunities still available.
The next general meeting will take place on Wednesday, October 23rd.

Long Island Street Rod Association- General Meeting September 2013
The general meeting of the Long island Street Rod Association was held on September 25th at Levittown Hall
and was called to order at 8:05 by President Hudson with the pledge to the flag. Charlie announced that Jerry
Prinzivalli and Tom Martino are the chairmen for the fall show. Chris read the minutes of the September Board
meeting and a motion was made to accept by Dave cap, seconded by Dennis Manfredo and passed by the
membership. Len Laufer made a motion to not read the minutes of the August general meeting, motion was
passed by membership. Chris read all the amendments to the by-laws and they were all passed by a majority
of the membership. Charley thanked the members of the by-law committee. There were no new members
present.
Committee Reports: Tom Ingoglia said the club store will set up in the show swap area. Dave Anderson said
the new club roster is ready. Joe Imperial said the college fashion show will be October 10th. Alan Leon said he
is setting up a click-on for the website to view show pictures. Alan has fire extinguishers for sale at $12.00 @.
The show chairs will have a Saturday sign-up sheet. Len said we have to let the restaurant know how many
people are attending the break-down dinner by 2-3:00. Charley emphasized that you must work the breakdown to get the free dinner. Marion said we need members to help sell the 50/50. Charley suggested a
separate table to sell 50/50 tickets. Dan Neri suggested people entering the show get both halves of their
raffle ticket and have them put the half of the ticket in the barrel themselves. Charley said members have to
be on the look-out for vendors selling knives or guns and report them to a show chairman.
New Business: Jerry Prinzivalli asked if everyone voted for the 50th anniversary club logo. Charley reported
that Ted Gouzoules is out of rehab and he also read a thank you card from the Carrier family. Charley said that
Carol LeGrow is currently at South Oaks. Joe Lonegro asked if something could be sent to her but Charley said
nothing can be sent to South Oaks but maybe we can send her something when she goes into the nursing
home.

The position of Club Advisor has not yet been filled.
Executive Session: Jim read the balances in all the club accounts as of August 31st. The report was accepted by
Brian O’Hara, seconded by Pete Mazieka and passed by the membership.
Steve carrier asked if the club wants to donate $250.00 to the Toy and Food drive, as usual. Dennis Manfredo
made a motion to donate the money, seconded by Joe Lonegro and passed by the membership. Bill Carberry
asked about changing our fall 2014 show date so it does not conflict with the Mangano show in Nassau.
Charley said our dates have not yet been submitted to the college. Motion to close the meeting at 9:35

Rims And Radials
The first rubber tires appeared in the mid 1800's. They were solid or
cushioned tires in which the rubber itself carried the load. The pneumatic or
air-filled tire was patented as early as 1845. In 1888, a Belfast veterinary
surgeon named John Boyd Dunlop, obtained a patent for pneumatic bicycle
tires. The first use of pneumatic tires for automobiles was pioneered by the
Michelin Brothers in 1895. In 1898, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company was
formed in America. Harvey Firestone started the Firestone Tire and Rubber
Company in 1900. For the next 50 years, tires were made up of an inner tube
and outer casing. The rubber that made up the casing was reinforced by
layers or "plys" that ran across the tire in alternating diagonal layers at 55
degrees to the wheel rim, called "bias" plys. Michelin introduced steel belted
radial tires in 1948. Radial tires provided a larger footprint that contacted the
driving surface, which gave them more "grip" and also provided increased gas
mileage. The radial tire has plys that radiate at 90 degrees from the wheel
rim, and exert more pressure against the edge of the rim. When mounting
radials on older steel rims that were not designed for radials, check with the
installer or tire manufacturer to make sure the rim can withstand the extra
pressure. There have been instances where the edge has separated from the
steel rim.

FABULOUS 50”&60’ NOSTALGIA CAR CLUB
DEFINITION OF ACCELERATION
There are no rockets or airplanes built by any government in the world that can
accelerate from a standing start as fast as a Top Fuel Dragster or Funny Car …..and
that includes any aircraft launched by a catapult from an aircraft carrier. Nothing can
compare…..
One top fuel dragster 500 cubic inch Hemi engine makes more horsepower than the
first 4 rows of stock cars at the Daytona 500.
It takes just 15/100ths (0.15) of a second for all 6,000+ horsepower (some believe
8,000 HP is more realistic - there are no dynomometers capable of measuring) of an
NHRA Top Fuel dragster engine to reach the rear wheels.
Under full throttle, a dragster engine consumes 1-1/2 gallons of nitromethane per
second; a fully loaded 747 consumes jet fuel at the same rate with 25% less energy
being produced.
A stock Dodge Hemi V8 engine cannot produce enough power to drive the dragster's
supercharger..
With 3,000 CFM of air being rammed in by the supercharger on overdrive, the fuel
mixture is compressed into a near-solid form before ignition.
Cylinders run on the verge of hydraulic lock at full throttle.
At the stoichiometric (stoichiometry: methodology and technology by which quantities of
reactants and products in chemical reactions are determined) 1.7:1 air/fuel mixture of
nitromethane, the flame front temperature measures 7,050 deg F. (Oxy-acetylene on
"cut" is 6,300)
Nitro methane burns yellow. The spectacular white flame seen above the stacks at
night is raw burning hydrogen, dissociated from atmospheric water vapor by the searing
exhaust gases.
Dual magnetos supply 44 amps to each spark plug. This is the output of an arc welder
in each cylinder.
Spark plug electrodes are totally consumed during one pass. After halfway, the engine
is dieseling from compression, plus the glow of exhaust valves at 1,400 deg F. The
engine can only be shut down by cutting the fuel flow.
If spark momentarily fails early in the run, unburned nitro builds up in the affected
cylinders and then explodes with sufficient force to blow cylinder heads off the block in
pieces or split the block in half.
In order to exceed 300 mph in 4.5 seconds, dragsters must accelerate an average of
over 4G's. In order to reach 200 mph well before half-track, the launch acceleration
approaches 8G's.
Dragsters reach over 300 miles per hour before you have completed reading this
sentence.
Top fuel engines turn approximately 540 revolutions from light to light! Including the
burnout, the engine must only survive 900 revolutions under load.
The redline is actually quite high at 9,500 rpm.
Assuming all the equipment is paid off, the crew worked for free, and for once
NOTHING BLOWS UP, each run costs an estimate $1,000.00 per second.
The current top fuel dragster elapsed time record is 4.428 seconds for the quarter mile
(11/12/06, Tony Schumacher, at Pomona, CA). The top speed record is 336.15 mph as
measured over the last 66' of the run (05/25/05 Tony Schumacher, at Hebron, OH).
Putting all of this into perspective:
You are driving the average $140,000 Lingenfelter 'twin-turbo' powered Corvette Z06.
Over a mile up the road, a top fuel dragster is staged and ready to launch down a
quarter mile strip as you pass. You have the advantage of a flying start. You run the
'Vette hard up through the gears and blast across the starting line and pass the dragster
at an honest 200 mph. The 'tree' goes green for both of you at that instant.
The dragster launches and starts after you. You keep your foot down hard, but you
hear an incredibly brutal whine that sears your eardrums and within 3 seconds, the
dragster catches and passes you. He beats you to the finish line, a quarter mile away
from where you just passed him.
Think about it, from a standing start, the dragster had spotted you 200 mph and
not only caught, but nearly blasted you off the road when he passed you within a
mere 1,320 foot long race course.
... and that is ACCELERATION!

Apple Crumble with Vanilla Ice Cream
Ingredients
4 Granny Smith apples, cut in half
1/4 cup olive or canola oil
1 stick (8 tablespoons) unsalted cold butter, melted
8 tablespoons light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 cup granola
1 pint vanilla ice cream
1/2 cup prepared caramel sauce, heated, optional
Preparation
Heat the grill or stovetop grill pan to medium.
Place apples in a medium bowl and toss with the oil. Place the apples on the grill, cutside down and grill until nicely browned. Flip the apples over and continue to grill until
nicely browned on skin side. Remove from the grill and allow to cool briefly.
Once they are cool enough to handle, core and cut the apples into wedges. Place the
apple wedges into a bowl and toss with 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon, 4 tablespoons
light brown sugar and 1/2 stick melted butter.
In another bowl, toss together the remaining melted butter, cinnamon, light brown sugar
and the granola.
Place 1 large scoop of ice cream into 4 bowls and top with the apple mixture. Sprinkle
the granola mixture over the top of the apple and drizzle with some of the caramel sauce,
if using.
Total Time: 25 min
Prep: 10 min Cook: 15 min
Yield: 4 servings
