Elger Bay Elementary March – April 2014 Compass Upcoming Events: • March 3: RAA Starts “Home of the Explorers!” • March 6: Seuss Olympics • March 9: Spring Forward Principal’s Message • March 10~14: Classified Slowly the grey clouds of winter will part and we will become reacquainted with the beautiful days of spring on Camano. In this newsletter you will find several small reminders that will help make the coming weeks safe, productive, and enjoyable for all of our students. Employee Week • March 17 & 24: SCSD Attendance Area Meetings • March 20: Sahara Pizza Night • March 21: Movie Night • March 31: IGA Receipts Parking Lot Speed Limit Be reminded that the speed limit entering and exiting the parking lot here at Elger Bay is posted at 5 m.p.h. We have had a few near misses between cars and people in our parking lot before and after school. I have asked the Island County Sheriff to come onto our parking lot property and help me monitor everyone's driving speed. Please help everyone out by arriving in the morning with plenty of time so that you do not have to rush...and keeping in mind at the end of the day that everyone's safety is most important, even as you head off to fun family activities. Program Ends • March 31~April 5: Missoula Children’s Theatre • April 2: No Late Start – Early Release at 12:00 pm • April 2~4: Early Release at 12:00 pm (Spring Conferences) • April 5: MCT Performances • April 7~11: NO SCHOOL Spring Break • April 17: Sahara Pizza Night • May 5~9: Teacher CADA Bullying and Harassment Presentation Every class at every grade level Appreciation Week • May 16: Principal Day • May 22: Sahara Pizza Night participated in this program where students watched a presentation by Ms. Annie Singletary of CADA (Communities Against Domestic Abuse). The program is called "Hands and Words" and was developed to help students learn skills to effectively deal with bullying and help prevent violence in general. The goal of the program is to have students pledge that they will not use their hands and words to hurt others. A great message we hope can be reinforced by all of us. Spring Conferences Spring conferences will be coming up right before Spring Break on April 2, 3, and 4. Some staff may even begin their conferences a few days before that in order to offer better times for the families to meet with them. The bottom line is that this window is meant as a more formal opportunity for you and your child's teacher to review their progress to date and set in motion plans for finishing strong. Watch for sign up sheets that should be coming home in the next couple of days. ~ Mr. Hanzeli • May 26: NO SCHOOL SEUSS OLYMPICS!
