Dr. Seuss By Morgen Davidson All about Dr. Seuss "OH, THE PLACES YOU'LL GO! THERE IS FUN TO BE DONE! THERE ARE POINTS TO BE SCORED. THERE ARE GAMES TO BE WON." From: Oh, The Places You'll Go! Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known to the world as the beloved Dr. Seuss, was born in April 1904 in Springfield, Massachusetts. Ted's father, Theodor Robert, and grandfather were brew masters in the city. His mother, Henrietta Seuss Geisel, often soothed her children to sleep by "chanting" rhymes remembered from her youth. Ted credited his mother with both his ability and desire to create the rhymes for which he became so well known. After devoting 53 years to creating entertaining and instructive books, the good Dr. Seuss taught all that he could teach. Ted Seuss Geisel passed away on September 24, 1991, at the age of 87. A lot of people missed him. I hope you will get to read all of Dr Seuss books. They are very funny and they rhyme. That is all the fun facts about Dr Seuss. History of BaseBall By.Brody Jones The popular game that gained fame as being 'America's favorite pastime' is none other than the cool game of baseball. There are many debates that go with the origin of baseball. A few historical sources point that in the year 1700, Thomas Wilson who was considered a leader in England prohibited the game of baseball and a few other sports. Baseball is almost the same as the game to the game of “stool ball”. It is said that in the game, a batting player was made to stand in front of a target, a stool, while another player pitched a ball. If the batting player hit the ball and was caught in field by a player, he was considered to be out of the game Alexander Cartwright invented base ball in 1845.He was a book seller. He lived in Manhattan, New York. He was the first person to draw a diagram of a baseball diamond. Michael Jordan By: Azia Grisham Many people look up to him. If you have heard of the Dallas Mavs but have you ever wondered who his IDOL is. Well it is a famous basketball player named Air Jordan!!! Michel was one on the first African American basketball players in the hall of fame. He played over 300 games and he was trusted to make the winning shouts and missed it. You would think that he was perfect but he messes up like all the rest of us. He also plays on the hit kid movie Chicago Bulls in 1984. The way he earned the name Air Jordan was he won the slam-dunk contest at half time in a Dallas game. MARCH MADNESS!!!!!!!!!! By: Jason Faulkenberry March Madness! Some of sports fans favorite two words. Most of them just like to enjoy the tournament, but most of them don’t know the history, well that’s why I am here. March Madness began in 1939 with 2 regions [ East and West] and 4 teams in each region. The East region had: Brown, Ohio State, Wake Forest, and Villanova. While the West had: Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, and Utah State. Oregon and Ohio State in the final. Oregon beat Ohio State 46-33.The genius who came up with this is Harold Oleson the coach for Ohio State. It was played on Northwestern’s campus in Evanston, Illinois Recently we had March Madness and every year out of 68 teams there is one Cinderella/underdog. This year is was North Carolina State making it to the elite eight. It was also a year of the powerhouses winning, with Kentucky #1 team, destroying everybody in their path and goal, champions. The runner up was Kansas which is another powerhouse. The Big East has had many champs, but the SEC (South Eastern Conference) has token over lately. Kentucky had a young all star lineup led by Anthony Davis soon to be #1 pick in draft. The Final Four was held in New Orleans this year. The championship game was 67-59. A Whole New World By: Makenzi Wells Fifth graders are becoming sixth graders and it is a lot different from BIS. Be prepared because once you are a sixth grader there will be more homework and way more group projects you will have more classes with different class mates in basically every class. It might sound scary but if you get organized then you’re sure to be on you’re way to becoming a sixth grader. Stay true to who you are though because it’s just Middle school and after you finish up with Middle school then you probably be nervous about High School so just stay calm and get organized and you’ll be fine.
