“Creative Nonsense” – YA Creative Writing/Open Studio
(13-21 yrs.): Every Monday, 6-8 PM. Bring in your own creative
endeavors, and/or contribute to the group’s Zine project. Talk to
the YA Librarian Micah Rademacher if you are interested or have
any questions.

•Game Night: First Thursday of every month, 6-8 PM. What
did we do before video games? Bring in the board game of your
choice, or sample those that are provided. Bring a friend. Bring
a group of friends. Table Top RPG? We’ll do that too. Snacks will
be provided!!!
•Teen Movie Night: Last Thursday of every month, 6-8 PM.
PIZZA! PIZZA! ...or another comestible in theme with the movie
being screened. As movies will be rated PG or PG-13, you’ll
need a parent or guardian with you if you are under the age of
13! Movies to be determined–to find out what will be playing, or
to make a suggestion for a future movie night, Talk to YA Librarian Micah Rademacher.
•Winter Reading Program: Graphic Novel Edition: Begins November 20th. Join our Winter Reading Program. Check out our
large collection of graphic novels and find something you like,
from mystery to humor to sci-fi! Open to Adult patrons.
•One Sentence | One Drawing: Begins November 20th.
Creative minds are invited to submit drawings illustrating one
sentence stories. Open to Adult and YA patrons.

Lap Sit Stories (0-3 yrs): Mondays, September 8 until December 15, 10-10:45 AM. Songs, games, and stories to stimulate
early childhood reading. Please note that Lapsit will not meet on
days when Cook County School District 130 is not in session.

•Preschool Storytime (3 yrs +): Thursdays, September
11-December 18, 4 PM. Little people 3 to 5 will enjoy rousing
stories, fun films based on children’s books, and a coloring
sheet to take home. Parent/guardian must attend.
•Drop-In-Creativity (5 yrs +): Wednesdays, September 17-December 17, 3-4:30 PM. Stop in and create something fun! We
might be painting, making a craft or solving a puzzle.
•Book Club/Series Fiction We Love (Grades 2-6): 2nd Tuesday
of the month, beginning September 9, 3:30‐4:30 PM. What is your
favorite series of books? Wimpy Kid, Katie Woo, Spirit Animals? At
our first meeting we’ll compile a list of series books we love!
•Family Friendly Flix (C): Fridays, September 12th-December
19th, 3 PM. BYO snacks! Adults must be accompanied by

PM. This class will show you how to use your pc/laptop to do
things you hear everyone talking about: the internet, facebook,
google, downloading pictures, movies and music. We also

Museum Interactive Design SIG (A):
Third Thursday of each month, 12-8 PM. Join us in the Museum/Tech Annex as we explore new possibilities in interactive
design using ProTools, Adobe Creative Cloud, 3D software,
special effects and other technologies. We’ll use resources including our recording studio, mics, instruments, green screen,
lights, cameras and projectors to create interactive exhibit

it the first time: Guerrilla gardening is defined as an effort to
“fight the filth” of the city by cultivating flowers and edible

plants on the fringes of public space and abandoned property.
It can be as simple as tossing out flower seeds as you bike
to school or work, to as involved as keeping a garden on a
vacant lot. Our Guerrilla Gardeners’ springtime efforts to bring
green to Blue Island were fun and successful the first time
around, so let’s keep it up. Ready seed bombs on Thursday for
a Saturday deployment, and look for the results of our insurgency to appear in the spring. And while we’re out there, we’ll
visit some of the sites we bombed last time and see what’s

Sunday September 28th, 2:30 PM, in Christ Memorial Church,
2440 York. “TWTDRP,” a traveling group of actors, voice artists
and old time radio fans who perform ‘vintage radio broadcasts’
using old scripts, period music, sound effects, vintage commercials and considerable vocal talent. Fun for all ages. TICKETS

York. William Pack explores a small barn fire that destroyed a

Incredible Bats (F) (C):
Thursday, October 23rd, 7 PM. Sharon Peterson, a licensed
USDA bat expert will provide an educational presentation with
live Egyptian Fruit Bats and African Straw‐colored Fruit Bats.
There’s been an addition to the family since Tanzi and Togo
have a new pup, born July 14! Last time the Peterson’s visited,
we had a special guest named Baxter, who was a real stinker

Halloween with Ursula Bielski (A):
Friday, October 24th, 7 PM, at Blue Island Historical Society’s
Headquarters 13018 Maple. Blue Island’s Historical Society,
Chamber of Commerce and Library are thrilled to again welcome
Author and Ghost-lorist Ursula Bielski for her annual Blue Island
Halloween visit. TICKETS REQUIRED. Locations and Dates

Calumet Humane Society (F) (C):
Saturday, October 25th, 2014, 12-3 PM. The Blue Island Public
Library will partner with the Calumet Humane Society in a fun
filled day of pets. The humane society will talk about: humane
pet education, volunteering, and pet care. A donation table will
be setup so that people can donate items to the society, and
an on-site animal adoption if anyone would like to adopt a pet.

blood and liquid latex. Young Adult Librarian Micah will be sharing the training of a previous career on the stage with whoever
is interested in making themselves look like an accident victim,
walking dead, or some other kind of bloody mess. Wear clothes

Saturday, December 6th, following the Western Avenue Christmas Light Parade. The Library’s the place to be when Blue Island
welcomes the Christmas Season. Your family is invited to join our

• Greet England’s “Father Christmas” who joins us to explain familiar Christmas’ Symbols and Traditions...and tell of Nicholas,

Wednesday, December 10th, 4-5 PM. We’ll be experimenting
with a number of upcycling projects for Christmas presents –
turning junk into thoughtful and personalized gifts. We have a
handful of projects set to work on, but feel free to bring in your

Tattoo Support Group (YA):
Monday, December 15th, 6-8 PM. Been ruminating on that tattoo design that you’ve wanted forever? Come in to our weekly
meeting of Creative Nonsense and we’ll do up a temporary
version of your desired ink-job. Thus, you can live with it for a
few days, and see if it’s right for you. Offer up some constructive criticism for others and get some in return. This is the way

Wednesday, December 17th, 5-8 PM. Bring in objects, family,
friends and/or pets for a free photo shoot. We’ll have a large

on Demand”?
Freegal’s a music service your ‘Favorite’ Library offers. Media
on Demand’s like Freegal, except that it offers reading material in an e-book or audio format. Both are free with your Blue
Island Library Card. Both download to your computer and /or
