Letter From The President
: INSIDE THIS ISSUE :
Welcome to 2013! I hope that everyone has stayed safe through the
various winter storms and severe weather that have plagued the nation. Show season is once again upon us, with Scottsdale and the
Cowtown Classic already in the books. Please review the calendar of
events and plan to attend one or more of the shows listed therein.
Our sport cannot survive without shows, and the shows cannot afford
to host cutting without our participation.

Thanks are in order to the US National Show Commission and to the
Scottsdale Show Board of Directors for relaxing the rule requiring
only registered Arabian or Half-Arabian horses to be used as turnback horses at those shows. Competitors are now free to bring any
appropriate horse to help in the cutting pen. It is hoped that this will
take some stress off of show horses that have had to perform double
duty and provide suitable help in the pen throughout these shows.
Thanks also go to AHA and the Youth National Show Commission
for adding cutting classes to Youth Nationals in 2013. Interested participants are urged to contact me, Secretary-Treasurer Deni Grissette
or their local TACHA member for help finding shows and suitable mounts. Youth riders need not own a cutting horse in order to show, as these are considered “JTR” classes by AHA. Youth riders will not need to qualify to show in the Youth National cutting classes this year.
Finally, please take a moment to reflect with me on the passage of one of our breed’s greats, the legendary
Bazy Tankersley. A top breeder, exhibitor and promoter of Arabian horses, Mrs. T. also made tremendous
contributions to the sport of Arabian cutting, with horses of Al-Marah bloodlines regularly gracing the winner’s circle at major cutting events. She will be greatly missed, but her influence on the Arabian breed and the
sport of cutting will leave an indelible mark for generations to come. I hope she rode away singing on her beloved Dreamazon+++.

Minutes – Board of Directors Conference Call
January 22, 2013, 7:00 pm CST
1. Meeting called to order
The BOD meeting was called to order at 7:04pm CST by Toni Trego, President
2. Roll call
Roll was called by Deni Grissette, secretary/treasurer.
Present members were: Toni Trego, Dave Dickerson, Deni Grissette
Navid Kharrazi, Wendy Castle, John L Dublin, Amy Wilms, Tim Moerbe and Wes
Larkin. Lee Allen, Dawn Coons and Diane Powell joined the meeting later.
3. Reading and disposal of minutes: July 19, 2012
Motion by Dave Dickerson and seconded by John L to waive the reading of the minutes and accept as presented. Motion passed.
4. Unfinished business
a. AHA Convention 2012
Tim: shared that the US show commission was to meet this week concerning Non
Arab turnback horses for Nationals. Would let the Board know the outcome. Also
cattle contract for Nationals is out for bid
Amy: Requested a letter from Toni to Scottsdale board requesting a waiver of the
non Arab turnback.
b. Scottsdale 2013
36 cutting entries and 8 youth entries

6. New business
a. Supporting/reviving cutting at Class A shows
Continue to group with working cow. Co hosting show with sorting, working cow,
reining? Inform/guide/suggestions to help shows make cutting work.
b. Turn-back horses at USN (Dawn Coons)
Continuing to have the rule regarding Arab only turnback removed. Show Commission to decide this week.
c. Futurity committee
Deni: Motion to leave Futurity payments remain as last year: June 1, July 1 and
Aug 1. Second by Navid. Motion passed.
Discussion about forming Futurity Committee for Nationals. Dawn will review
with Toni and report back at next meeting.
d. Other
Deni: Junior horse – do Jr horses have to qualify this year. Tim does not have an
answer and will find out.

TACHA Election
It may seem early, but now is the time to start thinking about what you can do for the future of Arabian cutting. I am referring to running for office in the upcoming TACHA election.
TACHA Officers and Directors serve for a two year term. The President, Vice-President and, starting with this year’s election, seven (formerly ten) directors, are elected by the membership via
mailed paper ballots. Ballots are to be mailed to the membership by September 1 and returned by
October 1, with results tallied and subsequently revealed at the general membership meeting in
October. Their terms will begin January 1, 2014.
Nominations may be made by contacting Deni Grissette, TACHA Secretary/Treasurer, or any other
board member. Please consider stepping up to help lead your association into the future.

AHA Membership Drive Contest
Calling All Clubs
AHA has launched the 2013 Club Membership Drive geared towards engaging clubs and promoting new member outreach. All clubs are eligible, no entry is needed. The Club Membership Drive will run from March 1 – June 30, 2013.

What’s in it for Your Club? Prizes!

Incentive – The five clubs that get the most new members get one free delegate registration each for the 2013
AHA Convention

BONUS Incentive – One additional free registration will be drawn from all clubs showing improvement
Winning Clubs will receive coverage on the AHA Facebook Page, in Modern Arabian Horse magazine, the AHA website and in an AHA press release.
Club Membership Drive Rules


Membership count based on growth from March 1 – June 30, 2013




Beginning and ending counts will be based on increased number of members, not percentage
For the purpose of this Membership Drive, New Members are defined as any person, youth or adult, that is completely new to the association or has not been a member for over 24 months or someone who has previously been a
base member but not had club affiliation for at least 24 months.
Must be both AHA and Club member (not just club members)
New Members must consent to membership with both AHA and the affiliated club.
Convention registrations are not transferable to another club
Sponsorship Opportunities
Would you like to support cutting, but don’t have a horse to show? Why not consider sponsoring cutting at
one of the many shows listed in our event calendar? Sponsorships are one of the many vital elements contributing to the success of our horse shows.
Show sponsorships come in many shapes and sizes and usually bring various forms of recognition to the
sponsoring individual or business. Most of the shows have detailed show sponsorship information in their
premium book or on the host association web site. Alternatively, donations may be made directly to TACHA
toward added money; however, all added money must be announced prior to the close of entries at any
TACHA recognized show.
National level sponsorship information can be found in the AHA National Shows Omnibus. In addition to the
opportunities listed in the Omnibus, I would like to start a scholarship fund for the Cutting classes at the
