ADVERTISEMENTS
I can’t believe it’s half over already, the year that is. July seemed to get here
very quickly especially at my age, but that’s another story. This week I and
many others of us will be heading to Youth Nationals. This Youth Nationals
will be one that holds a lot for us in that the Youth Nationals cutting clinic
will be held at the end of the week and I hope to see many of you there. The
numbers are looking great and I hope the weather holds out for the clinic so
that those wanting to ride get their time and learn a great deal and come to
join us in our great sport. I can speak for many that have had the chance to
ride a cutting horse there is nothing like it and it does change your outlook and
life.
Speaking of Nationals, I am hoping we get many horses qualified for the Nationals and also have the numbers that are enrolled in the futurities show in
the Nationals giving the years National show a great Nationals to remember. I really look forward to seeing many of you there.
While at Youth Nationals and US Nationals, please look me up and let me
know what you would like to see for the future and what you would like for the
Association to keep growing and showing the world how great our Arabian
horses are and what they can do to give us enjoyment.
Until we meet again take care and keep cutting.

Board of Directors
Conference Call Meeting
April 19, 2011
President Moerbe called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm, CST. Present were Tim Moerbe, Stephen Montgomery, Kathy Braden, Lee Allen, Dave Dickerson, Navid Kharrazi, Greg Mayfield, Toni Trego, Don Ulmer and
Amy Wilms. Absent were Diane Powell and Carolyn Mikulec.
Toni Trego moved to accept the minutes from February 8, 2011. Stephen Montgomery seconded. Motion carried.
Officer’s reports:
Secretary reported that reports were late getting out due to personal obligations plus computer and printer problems, things should be back on track soon. It was also discussed that the National Show Commission has
agreed to put up a round pen at U.S. Nationals for working throughout the show. It was discussed that this
would have to be worked out with the Working Cow Horse Association also and that both organizations would
have to work together in order for this to work. Don Ulmer was concerned about this if the weather did not
cooperate. This will have to be a concerted effort from everyone in order for this to work. An eblast will be arranged to send to both organization to see what type of feedback is received as to moving forward on this or not.
Membership Chairman, Toni Trego reported that we have 53 AHA Members, 15 Adult Associate Members and
1 Youth Member.
Navid Kharrazi reported that he had spoke with Kyle Tack to see if they would be interested in becoming a
sponsor for TACHA through a saddle donation. He will continue to visit with them to see what they will be
willing to do. T-shirts were discussed with pricings from a person in Scottsdale; he had also submitted a rough
draft on an order form via email. Toni Trego mentioned that she has a client that can do the screen printing
also. Kathy Braden moved for Toni Trego to move forward with contacting her client for final pricing on Tshirts and hats, using the TACHA logo from the website, and ordering the minimum order of T-shirts. Dave
Dickerson seconded. Motion carried.
Navid also discussed a way to increase membership through adverting on the website. Some organization offers
a considerable discount for a one year ad on their website for members, this makes joining TACHA more inviting. As an example ARHA charges $200.00 for non members and $100.00 for members with their membership
being $45.00. This program would make it more profitable to join the Association. This could possibly build
the membership numbers. It was asked of Navid by the next meeting to come forward with a motion to set this
program into effect.
How to improve communication was Navid’s next topic. In order to build TACHA it is necessary that we are
recognized in all areas and notification of all AHA Regional Directors would be an easy way to make notification across the country. It was discussed that this would be an easy issue to take care of. Navid Kharrazi moved
that all AHA Regional Directors be issued an Associate membership in TACHA. Steve Montgomery seconded.
Motion carried.
Diane Powell was unavailable for a Website report.
Old Business:
Youth National Clinic was reported by Toni Trego. Mickey Hegg, Chairman of Youth Nationals has agreed to
allow TACHA to host a cutting clinic at the Youth Nationals on July 28 - July 30 in Albuquerque, NM. Cattle
will be available once all judged classes are finished. Plans are to do dry work on Thursday, July 28th with cattle
Page 9
work and competition will be on July 29 and July 30th. Julie Stewart at AHA is planning on putting the clinic
notice in the AHA Omnibus book for notification to all. At this point a $500.00 sponsorship commitment
has been arranged with others stating that they would be receptive to donating merchandise for participants.
AHA will have to be contact to see what they will allow us to do to recognize these sponsors at the clinic.
Also a concern as to the number of cows that will be available, there may be a financial impact on renting
more cattle; this will be covered at a later date. Discussion about flyers being inserted in the number packets
was discussed, President Moerbe said they would probably need about 500 copies. Advertising to be sent out
through eblast and possible an article in the Modern Arabian magazine. Competition will be open only to the
Youth but anyone is welcome to participate. There will be a $50.00 fee for each youth that is competing with
a free Youth Associate membership for 1 year. Concern about liability ramifications was brought forward
from Navid; Kathy Braden will contact Dale Harvill to see what legal release forms need to be prepared for all
participants. Hoping that the clinic will gain excitement about the cutting it was discussed about trying to get
a JTR class at Scottsdale and possibly later at U.S. Nationals. It was announced that some shows now offer
the youth classes but unfortunately only 1 youth has shown.
DNA for the Half Arabian Futurity was discussed, that we were still working to get further information on
legal issues. It was suggested to see if there was any way to gain a copy of the original markings to see if the
markings match the nominated horse. AHA does not print the markings on a Half-Arabian/Anglo-Arabian
registration papers. We can check the written part of the markings against the horse if needed as those do appear on the registration papers.
Stephen Montgomery had nothing new about the Hall of Fame. Lee Allen discussed that she had nothing
new to add either. The Gray Book does not show a complete listing of winnings. Research will continue on
this project.
New Business:
Greg Mayfield announced that Southern Cross Ranch is planning to offer a Maturity class that would be a
combined Maturity for both Purebred and Half/Arabian. Greg Mayfield moved that TACHA accept the
Southern Cross Ranch Maturity as an official payout class and the results be listed in the Lifetime Earnings
(LTE) along with the Futurity. These winnings would not impact the Novice Horse standings for show purpose. Lee Allen Seconded. Discussion was that as the numbers grew then the Purebred and Half/Arabian
would be separated. Southern Cross Ranch would handle all nominations and TACHA will payout under
their payout rules. Nomination fee will $200.00, with $1000.00 Added Money. This will be 2 go’s with a non
working finals.
Horses entered into the 2011 Futurity or that will be showing in the 2011 Futurity will be ineligible for the
Maturity. An eblast will be sent to notify all members. Motion carried.
Lee Allen discussed the printing of banners from farms to be posted at the shows. Banners would be 4’ X 5’
with corner grommets. Lee Allen moved that TACHA has banners from farms and individuals at a cost of
$250.00 per banner. Stephen Montgomery seconded. These banners will travel to the shows and will be put
up and taken down. Lee will put together an eblast for notification to be sent to the membership. Motion
carried.
Kathy Braden moved that the meeting be adjourned. Lee Allen seconded. Motion carried.
Meeting was adjourned at 8:53 pm CST.
Respectfully submitted
Kathy Braden

YOUTH NATIONALS CUTTING CLINIC

Championship Show is full, with 20 total riders, 16 of whom will compete for a saddle and other prizes. The riders hail from eleven different states from coast to coast, and range in age from 12 to 39+. Of the 20 riders, only 3
report any prior experience with cattle work of any kind. At least a few have made contacts to start learning
about cutting in advance of the clinic.
The Board of Directors voted to divide the proceeds from the 2011 Stallion Service Sale among the owners of clinic
horses on a per horse basis to help defray some of the fuel expense to haul to Albuquerque. Additionally, we will
take in $800 for clinic fees and have received several generous cash donations, which have enabled us to order 25
extra head of cattle to improve the overall experience for the participants. Furthermore, we have had additional
award items donated and are working on putting together gift bags so that none of the participants go home
empty-handed. I hope to make this a wonderful, memorable experience for all concerned.
At this time, I am expecting 10 cutting horses and several helping horses to attend, along with at least 16 volunteers from our organization. Just as it takes a village to raise a child, it will take a small army to make this clinic
fulfill its potential. If you can make it to Albuquerque on July 28, 29 or 30, please come by to adjust stirrups, answer questions, pour lemonade, or whatever else you might do best. Feel free to bring information on your sale
horses, lessons or training programs. Most of all, we need to meet the riders and let them know that we will be
here to help them if they choose to continue down this path. Without continued support and encouragement to
our new members, this effort will bear no fruit.
In the next newsletter, I will give you a complete list of the donors and volunteers to whom we all owe our
thanks. This has truly been a team effort, and exemplifies all of the goodness that our organization has to offer. I
heartily thank you all in advance for your contributions to a successful clinic!

LET’S TALK RULES
Everyone has access to the rule book either by print or through our TACHA website,
www.arabian-cutting.org but thought it might be nice to visit about a couple of rules every
month. These may be things you know about or not.
SCRATCHING A HORSE: Page 18, e. If an owner scratches one (1) or more horses without a
vet certificate, his entry fee will be held by TACHA and will be added to the purse. Other
fees (i.e. cattle & office) will be held by show management. With a vet certificate, only the
entry fee will be refunded. Other fees (i.e. cattle & office) will be held by show management. Note: Cattle and office fee will always be retained by show management as in most
cases the cattle have already been contracted and paid for. Please note that each show has
rules that pertain to scratching a horse, please be aware of those rules through their show
premium book.
DRAWING FOR WORKING ORDER: Page 16, #6. Judges must draw for places (working order of horses) or authorize show management to draw before go-rounds and finals. In the
event that a horse is left out of the draw, a re-draw must be made. If a horse is duplicated,
the judge or show management shall draw to determine which draw position is to be used.
Note: Show management will notify the cutting judge prior to show date to see if he or she
will release the draw to the show management. If the judge does not release the draw
then the draw will not take place until the morning of the competition.
