I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart to greater loyalty, LOUISIANA 4-H FOUNDATION ANNUAL REPORT 2006-2007 my Hands to larger service and my Health to better living, for my club, my community, my country and my world. Louisiana 4-H is an educational program of the LSU AgCenter I pledge my Head to clearer thinking, my Heart Louisiana 4-H’ers learn leadership, citizenship and life skills that serve them for the rest of their lives – and benefit their communities, too. to greater loyalty, In every Louisiana parish, LSU AgCenter 4-H agents help 4-H youth and adult volunteers develop their full potential. Some 175,000 4-H club members my Hands statewide pledge themselves to build a better community, country and world. Across Louisiana is a new generation of caring, community-minded citizens and leaders. to larger service 4-H has been preparing young people for leadership roles for more than 100 years and continues to build the future today. Critical to this effort is support from the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. and my Health Founded in 1978 as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the Louisiana 4-H Foundation, affiliated with the LSU Foundation, is a permanent endowment for educational programs and scholarships. Through tax-deductible donations, the Foundation is able to help 4-H continue developing youth and building a legacy to better living, of leaders for Louisiana. for my club, my community, my country and my world. A Message from the Director I began my work with the Louisiana 4-H Foundation in Nov. 2006. Never did I think I would have this much enjoyment fundraising for 4-H in the state I love. I have enjoyed traveling to all corners of Louisiana soliciting support for the largest youth development organization in the United States. I am also happy to be bringing you the first Louisiana 4-H Foundation Annual Report since 2003. During the 2006-07 fiscal year, the 4-H Foundation continued its strong support of the 4-H program with more than $100,000 for scholarships, educational trips, programs and 4-H Camp. With the backing of LSU AgCenter Chancellor Bill Richardson and Vice Chancellor, Paul Coreil, the 4-H Foundation has a major focus of supporting the Grant Walker 4-H Educational Center. As you may already know, the 4-H Foundation purchased approximately 30 acres of land adjacent to Grant Walker back in 2003. This land acquisition has injected new life into 4-H Camp and its programming plans. Thanks to your generosity over the past three years, the 4-H Foundation is more than 65 percent on its way of completing the payment on this piece of property. Our plan is to donate this property to the LSU AgCenter for 4-H Camp once the purchase is complete. The Louisiana National Guard also has helped out with more than $100,000 worth of general labor on the property. Personnel have removed all of the buildings that were deemed uninhabitable and cleared all of the overgrown vegetation. In the next few months, the Guard will embark on a major pond excavation project that ultimately will enable environmental education and recreational activities. Chancellor Richardson also has earmarked more than $800,000 for improvements. Even with so many entities providing support, private sector funding continues to play the most important role in Louisiana’s 4-H program at both the state and local level. I want to thank each and every one of you for your contributions. I look forward to the many relationships that will develop in support of the Louisiana 4-H Foundation. Eric A. Bivin Donations Establish Endowment During her years of service to the LSU AgCenter and 4-H Youth Development, Dr. Rosalie Bivin generously contributed $16,700 to the Louisiana 4-H Foundation through monthly employee payroll deductions. Her gift is one of the most generous given by an AgCenter employee through the payroll giving program. These contributions have been used to create the Rosalie Bivin 4-H Youth Development Faculty Award, a new endowed fund in the 4-H Foundation. The interest from this account will be used each year to award and recognize a 4-H youth development faculty member for a distinguished, innovative and visionary contributions to positive youth development. In celebration of her retirement from the AgCenter, Bivin’s family and friends also presented a check for more than $3,000 to be included Dr. Rosalie Bivin in the fund in her name. These funds were collected to honor her years of service to 4-H youth development, to family and consumer sciences, to the School of Human Ecology and to the AgCenter. Because of what she has meant to the agents doing family and consumer sciences programming, the Louisiana Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (LEAFCS) donated $200 from the organization in addition to individual contributions. Dr. Terril Faul 4-H Foundation News The Rosalie Bivin 4-H Youth Development Faculty Award will be made annually to a 4-H youth development faculty member during a major conference of the LSU AgCenter to recognize that person for a distinguished program contributing to positive youth development.
